Make The Pledge by Nikki Miles
With this playful painting, illustrator Nikki Miles is urging us to make a pinky promise to go easy on the meat and its carbon consequences and enjoy some veg instead.
“I don’t eat a lot of meat but I’m not strictly a vegetarian either,” says Nikki. “I have tried being a vegetarian in the past but I found it to hard to give up the odd bacon sandwich or roast dinner with beef gravy. I only eat meat around once or twice a week because vegetables are yummy too! Eating more veg and less meat is a simple way to make a big difference to your health and the environment.”
Why?
On average, people living in developed countries eat their own weight in meat every year. It’s pumping more CO2 into our atmosphere than anything else on our planet and it’s using up our water supplies like there’s no tomorrow.
How?
The meat-eating mentality can be a tough thing to change. Fool yourself into eating more veg with this selection of timeless recipes that are so good that you won’t believe they’re meatless.

Otter Farm Perennial Garden
Love the ideas here from Mark Diacono's perennial veg garden. Not sure my local council would count this as a cultivated plot though. Be great to get some more of this stuff growing in my plots though.

The Hudson Valley Seed Library
by Nick Hand
I've long been a fan of Bristol graphic designer and photographer Nick Hands sound slides. This one is from a recent trip to the states.
Nick says
"The seed library is in Accord, mid Hudson Valley and near the Catskills. The library sells seed appropriate to the NE region. They collect both seeds and accompanying stories and grow and sell seeds. A very fine little company of good people in a beautiful corner of the world."

I was in Branscombe in Devon at the weekend very briefly. I'm pretty sure that these are Alexanders. Any confirm or deny?

Just dug out the rest of my allotment photos from 2011 and updated my Allotment set on flickr. Hit the picture of my shadow if you wish to see more.
This is a beautiful film made by Philip Bloom. Very nicely done indeed. (No edibles though) But well worth watching all the way through.
