I've been lurking on Reddit for a long time and have been able to find so many great resources over the years. Now I want to give something back. Items that I wish I had known and internalized way earlier than I had. Some background: I started my business several years ago in my bedroom while working full-time for an unrelated company. Now we have an office in the Times Square (NYC) area with a team of full-time employees. I put $500 into the business initially and have not taken on any other investments. But take my advice and insight as you wish. I am sharing it simply to be part of the community
Similarly to GoChat, I also launched a Pokémon GO fan app last week, called GoSnaps. GoSnaps is an app to share Pokémon GO screenshots and images on a map. The Instagram/Snapchat for Pokémon GO. GoSnaps grew to 60k users its first day, 160k users on its second day and 500k unique users after 5 days (which is now).
Detailing Know Your Company’s most unusual business model… that works! We’ll go behind the scenes and share the numbers to show you exactly how we’ve done it.
A few months ago I ended up at the very top of the frontage for r/entrepreneur when I launched my second Kickstarter campaign for my comfortable boxer briefs. Many enjoyed reading the story and how-to’s… so, in the spirit of sharing, I thought i’d tell you how things have moved along since then. I’ve since relaunched with 9 different product lines, refined the products extensively, improved the manufacturing process, replaced my platforms, completely changed the branding, and reached $500k in total sales. I'm stocked up on inventory for the rest of the year and I have a growth plan in place.

While attending University I was an athlete and got to know socially the vast majority of varsity athletes on sports teams such as football, lacrosse, hockey, rugby, along with bodybuilders and powerlifters that worked out in the campus gyms. All of us had a common issue; the closest supplement store was a 15-20 minutes drive away, with poor public transit access. The way we got around this was all of us would bulk order online (usually together) from the US to save on shipping/duties.
Minimums is our new publication that features the most interesting possessions of the world’s most interesting people. At Need/Want, content has been a big part of our strategy from the beginning. We’ve experienced first hand the power of putting out good content and building an audience. We are, by far, our own biggest referrer to all of our different products.
There’s no shortage of articles out there promising a step-by-step guide to running a 6-figure crowdfunding campaign. You know the ones. The “How to make $1m on Kickstarter in 10 days!” or “5 easy steps to a $100k campaign” types. And while the numbers alone in those headlines should be enough to set off alarms, I understand if you still want to believe there are shortcuts to a viral campaign. Hell, I wanted to believe.
It all started with the moon face emoji. We’re big fans of the moon face emoji. It’s by far the most used emoji in the Need/Want Slack channel. The cheeky look on its face makes us crack a smile every time it comes up. It can be relevant to almost any situation.
The idea was simple. As a mid-twenties male, you basically have three options to decorate your place: IKEA, Craigslist, or outrageously expensive furniture stores. We thought there was a need for a better option — something unique and stylish, but reasonably priced, and could be ordered online and shipped right to your door, hassle free. With that, Spilled was born.

Three months ago we launched Mod Notebooks; a paper notebook that syncs to the cloud. This is the story of everything that has happened so far, step by step. Revenue breakdowns are also included below.
Today it’s easier than ever to launch a new product. Whether it’s writing a book, setting up an online store or launching a new fashion label, there are more tools to speed up the creation process than you can imagine. While creating a new product has gotten easier, it’s also gotten a lot harder (and a lot more expensive) to find an audience of potential customers.
For those of you who don’t know, Mod is a paper notebook that syncs to the cloud. We launched last week to rave reviews. This is the story of how we built and launched Mod for $22,450, without taking investor funding.
As I mentioned in part one, this is just how I created and sold my online course, not how anyone else should do things. Mostly what I want to stress is that you can do this. Prior to creating courses, I didn’t know how to create a course. But I worked at it, tested things, and measured what worked. It’s not rocket science (which doesn’t technically exist—it’s aerospace engineering), it’s just starting small, launching quickly and iterating. If I can do it, so can you.
I’m sick of hearing from friends that their online course costs more money to run than the revenue it’s generating. Or that they have to shut their course down because the ongoing fees are much higher than the price they charged members in the first place. Or that they want to create an online course, but have no idea where to start, so they stay stuck in the “oh crap, I’m really overwhelmed” stage.

Marshall and I were in my apartment, putting the finishing touches on our last Kickstarter campaign. We needed to print and sign some incorporation documents and unfortunately I don’t own a printer (does anyone anymore?), so I had to run to OfficeMax.
just did what no startup founder is ever supposed to do. I gave up. It wasn’t even one of those glorious “fail fast and fail forward” learning experiences. After seven months of hard work and two weeks before we were to start fundraising, we had a good team, glowing praise from beta users, and over $250k in handshake commitments. But I pulled the plug.
