before the GenAI Plague, "chat with a representative" was an increasingly available (and useful!) customer service option. you could communicate by text! no waiting on the phone! no terrible hold music! you could do other shit while waiting for a reply! "customer service" sucks for everyone involved, but this was a much less sucky option!

now it's a bot on the other side. a dumbass bot. and i am successfully making phone calls out of spite. the only "useful" part left of "chat with us"? using it to demand a phone call from a human agent. at least i get to skip the hold music.
