STYLISTICALLY I tried to draw as close to the art style they use in the show's concept art as possible

for jackie's design I based it mostly off of that one lone design of her in the art book, just with more metal stuff, less colorful, and none of the fur pelts. (also without her mask). I like the fact that in the concept art they included the red bike parts (I think referencing the cherry-red sportcrest bike she was riding before she got kidnapped), so I included them as well (the bike fenders as shoulderpads specifically).

for blinky's I REALLY wanted to try making a design based on the various principles they mentioned in the artbook, as well as something that they wouldn't run into budget constraints over (he does have a lot of limbs...). one issue they mention in particular is trying to properly anchor the expression around his numerous eyes, as well as balancing him looking weird but still looking "approachable" enough. (personally I think it'd be awesome if he didn't look approachable at all, since if he was a messed up nightmare creature it would make any acts of kindness all the more meaningful)... BUT following these principles I tried to make a design that kind of works. Unfortunately that means sacrificing the eyestalks since they'd probably make it extremely difficult for the animators to reliably make him expressive enough. but it's ok. there's glowing thingies to compensate for their lack while staying somewhat faithful to his silhouette. So it's fine.

ARRRGH!!!'s design I needed to change the least because she's already perfect. I really only removed her iconic boulder embedded in her skull as well as changed the nose to look less fleshy and more like the troll noses in the show. I removed the boulder specifically because, well, I feel like no matter how much more faithful they could theoretically be to the book, they'd never in a million years do the boulder-in-her-skull thing. too graphic for dreamworks.
