This moody promotional shoot marked the release of The Kick Inside, her debut album, home to Wuthering Heights, that high-pitched, haunting masterpiece that would become one of her eternal signatures.
Kate was just 19 here, but already a seasoned creator.
She'd been writing songs since age 11 (yes, on cassette tapes, analog dreams!), helped by her brothers. One of those tapes made its way into the hands of a family friend... who then casually handed it to David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Gilmour, struck by her eerie brilliance, financed professional demos and slipped them to EMI while recording Wish You Were Here at Abbey Road. EMI executives listened to the demos and the rest is history.
