“I’m just glad shit has calmed down, it was a hot mess for a while.” 

“I must admit for awhile I didn’t think so many of us would survive. It is nice to have some peace for the first time, well, ever.”

He wasn’t dumb enough to think everything was fixed up and dandy, but as one of the co-founders of the Shadow World Alliance he was at least under the impression that things were changing for the better. “Did a Shadowhunter cite you for an Accords violation or something?” His eyes narrowed and he had to restrain himself from rolling them. 

Gretel huffed out a dry laugh. “Considering how easy it is for your kinds to draw your blade first before asking any questions I’d only be so lucky if it were just talk.”

“Lightwood-Bane for over a decade now.” Magnus shrugged, offering his hand for a polite shake. “Nice to meet you Gretel Monroe, even if we do not share the same sentiments. Are you part of Luke’s pack?” 

“I am. Luke is worthy to lead the pack,” Gretel replied then narrowed her eyes. “Are you saying you’re agreeing with the way they’ve treated us for centuries?”

Alec’s head cocked back. Just because he was no longer the Head of the New York Institute didn’t mean he’d grown lax on Nephilim matters. “Excuse me?”

“If by Shadowhunters practically don’t exist anymore, you mean there are less ass Nephilim around, then I guess I’ll agree.” Magnus shrugged, eyeing the silver haired wolf. He hadn’t seen her much, but he thought he’d seen her around. “Gretel, right?” 

“That and their oppressive organization is gone and yet we live in harmony. They always believed they were needed, that we were monsters that couldn’t control ourselves,” she said, curling her lip upwards in disgust at the memories of the past. “Gretel Monroe,” she inclined her head slightly out of respect, “and you must be the famous Magnus Bane?”
