“There are no problems, only decisions to be made.” ~ Todd Herman (at the 90DY Partners Workshop in Soho 2 weeks ago) Today I became one of Australia’s first 90 Day Year Certified Partners. It’s one of the most challenging I’ve had to do. Getting my degree in IT seemed easier - all I had to do was attend class, present to peers, do the work, pass the exam, get my degree. This certification was in a different ballpark: Todd pushed us out of our comfort zones, helped us distill our craft, change our mindset, and perform at our best. At first, it was a problem for me as an introvert, but learning from Todd helped me make the decision to get over myself and get out on the playing field...to not just do the work but to also think strategically. As a right-brained creative, I hated systems and structure. I’d later realise that it’s the very thing I needed, as life kept happening and I was close to burning out. I also saw what I was doing wrong, that I was focusing on the wrong things at my stage in business. Now I know what I need to do to correct them. Not only can I make decisions faster, but Todd has given us the tools to figure out which decisions will increase our chances of success. I knew I wanted to learn more from Todd, so I can master the system and share it with others. When the opportunity came up to become one of the first partners, I jumped on the opportunity and never looked back. Signing up was one of the best business decisions I ever made. And I don’t doubt that everything I learned will continue to spill over to the rest of my life too. What’s next? It’s easy to get caught up in achieving goals and getting results... Only to later find ourselves fighting against the current, wondering how it got so hard. When this happens maybe it’s time to stop listening to what’s happening out there, and instead listen to what’s happening inside of us. We know what we have to do. And at times it’s different than what we’re told. So then we have to make a choice: listen to them or do what our gut tells us. The important thing is to make the decision and accept it fully. This week, I made lots of mistakes. Oh boy. #creativelife #entrepreneurlife I organised a little workshop and got the dates confused following a change, and emails that were queued originally got sent out even after I made the corrections. Embarrassing? Yes. Regrettable? No. Why? Because I realised that all the mistakes I made were a result of my taking action. Like finally getting out a live online workshop that I’ve been resisting/planning for years. I did it under the radar because I knew the first time will be messy. And it was. But the best lesson? It made me realise that I want to focus on things that people will remember years after I’ve done it. Not things that are fleeting and trivial…like getting the dates wrong or sending out the wrong email. I’m sure nobody’s going to say, “Oh yeah, Gretchen’s that girl that keeps getting these dates wrong in her emails. Even when she used to work in IT.” Maybe someone will, but that person’s probably not the one I’m trying to reach. I want to reach those that would say: There’s this goofy girl, I forget her name, but she said this: “Design is like the clothes you wear—what you say, think and do in addition to how you’re dressed is what makes your whole brand. That’s what people’s gonna remember you by.” Or something along those lines. ;) How would you like people to remember you? I'd love to know. That, or if there's been something else you've been pondering about. I crave introspective conversations like these, it's a shame that we just don't do it often enough. Luckily, it's the weekend soon. And we can just blame it all on the wine. ;)
