Prior to their agreement, Nagan and Hada acknowledged each other but, quite frankly, could hardly consider each other friends. They simply shared multiple friends, which translated to continuous time spent together. They greeted one another, they spoke, but it wasn’t until they bumped into each other in the library, exchanged pleasantries and realized how similar their fucked up lives had become that something within clicked. Nagan remained very much smitten with his ex, unable to reject his calls or ignore his texts. But the fuckboy made a point of displaying his string of conquests since the break up. Nagan wasn’t even sure getting back together was his endgame. Maybe he just wanted to get even. 

But this - whatever this was - was far beyond his comfort zone and, had Hada not knocked on his window, he might have very well ignited the engine and turned around before ever making a grand entrance. “Punctuality was never my thing,” the young male admitted as he locked the doors. Hada was, without doubt, beautiful. In a very care free manner. Chasing after her was probably like chasing after butterflies. She possessed a light he could only dream of someday encountering again. But her presence did lift the weight on his chest. “Organised chaos does sound like fun. I do require a few shots first.” His lips curled, palm pressing to her lower back as he gestured towards where the most liquor was concentrated. 

Hada noticed that some partygoers had noticed Nagan’s presence already. Their recognition brought a warm glow to her core and a thundering in her chest. Hada was always paranoid about others’ judgement. After all, that was the whole motivation for their arrangement. Her result of Nagan as her fake rebound was more serendipity than choice, and it was very lucky. As he pulled up, she thought he looked at ease. His suave presence was calming. 

She put her cigarette before they went in. There was too much guilt to smoke in front of another person. Somehow, manners always made their way into Hada’s behaviour no matter how much she resisted. 

“Ugh,” Hada replied, with slight yet exaggerated exasperation. She tilted her head backwards, lull in thought as her arms lightly wrapped around Nagan’s shoulders. “You go ahead,” she finally said, facing him. “I–I...I just want to have my ex’s reaction crystal clear in my vision so I’m holding back. He’s somewhere around here for sure. I don’t think having word about us going is enough. I want him to...remember it. That’s not too much, right?” She was stunned by her own bitterness. Around Nagan, she felt comfortable vocalising these thoughts. He wasn’t a close friend so it almost felt easier that he barely knew her. Hada wasn’t convinced of the logic but he was here, they were here. The least she could do was grab the bottle and shot glasses for him. She chuckled as she began untwisting the bottle cap. With the rush of the moment, she hadn’t even bothered to look at what she was opening.

An amused look was on her face, but she didn’t want to look pleased or anything. the man went behind the bar immediately to grab a couple of beers from the fridge, making note to add it to the point of sales once he got in the next morning. as he opened them, he heard her speak and then made a face before sliding the beer across the bar and leaning on the edge of it. “well, the marinara recipe has been in my family since my nonna opened up awhile ago. i’ve just gotten back from italy where i studied with my zia after graduating from la cuisine in paris… so maybe it’s that,” he responded, understanding the reputation some people thought of bariletti’s. taking a long sip of the beer, he wasn’t sure if she was coming to check out the ‘competition’, because he usually didn’t brag about his accomplishments. his father always told him to be modest, but he was a little defensive of his family’s business. 

aloise raised her head as an excitable puppy would. any mention of europe made her dearly homesick. there was a reason that she left the continent, but any reminders of home were appreciated. “oh my god, paris!” she pronounced it the english way. “do you speak any french?” she asked in her native tongue. “we speak differently in belgium, though,” she added in english.
