So far I have shown you all my visual research as it was easiest to do this, I will now start to show the progress I have made in my scectch book as well as my Trend/Market and Smart material research booklets that I have started using the visual research I have done for the project.

Here are some scans from a book I found called Graphic Flower Volume2. The book is from the 1980s but the simple prints have really inspired my design direction. I can imagine cars into some of these designs as well. I also like the two tone prints yet I feel like my shirt will still need the inky dip dye effect I have been working with. Yet I could experiment within CAD to see if this style would work. The two images on this page show quite blocky multicoloured print and I could also use this style as well.

I visited the garden centre to try and decide what flowers to use for my floral patterns. I want to do quite expressive large flowers that arent obviously flowers but create beautiful patterns. I feel that if I use these pansy flowers I can do this. I also feel quite inspired by the dip dye effect and I now want to look into this trend in fashion to see if I could encorperate this into my designs as I feel that the flowers and cars combined will create quite an intricate pattern and I need a subtle colour placement to compliment the illustatrations.

Owen photographs classic cars and I thought that these images would help with my drawings of cars. I now need to take some photographs of flowers to use to practice this idea to make sure it works. If it does I feel I have an unusual original idea that will hopefully work well.

I used pinterest to souce these images. I wanted to look into a trend of vintage transport. My thoughts so far for this project is to reinvent the floral pattern and use it in a way noone else has done. To do this I feel I need to combine it with another theme. Looking at these pictures I feel really inspired and feel that the vintage transport could work well with florals. I now want to do some drawings of these cars and bikes to see how they will turn out. If it works. I need to think of a reason why vintage transport would become a trend in 14/15 but I will be discussing this in my trend/maret booklet.

Bec Winnel. I found this designer on instagram and became really inspired. I do really enjoy drawing faces as I have done with other projects throughout my degree and I would like to continue practicing them. I really like Bec's style as I feel it is detailed and precise and I want to maybe attempt this. Yet the detail that stands out more is the floral patterns she creates. I really like how she uses resistant pens so the inks resist in certain places. The quite neat style compared to Carne Griffiths is a new and exciting technique. I want to get some floral images of my own and practice/experiment with this style as I feel this would work well on a shirt.

When in Westfield white city I walked past this piece of visual merchandising in warehouse and it really stood out to me. So far I have been looking at floral patterns and started to think about how I could do something different with the theme, to reinvent it. I think that warehouse have done this by using the same pattern on the dress as the backdrop created an illussion. I really enjoyed the intricate patterns they used and also the colours. This has really inspired me to start thinking about what I can do with my project. I now need to start my smart materials research booklet as I need to think of a inovative way to use these smart materials. As I want to reinvent the floral pattern I could use the technolgies to do this? I have decided I defonately want to design for shirts as I feel this is a good starting point for the ideas I have already. One way I feel I could reinvent the floral pattern is to introduce other images like the faces and flowers and I want to do some trend research for a/w 14/15 to see what websites predict as I want to create my own trend for this project as I feel it will push my designing ideas and skills.

I have now decided im going to put my research on here just so that I can develope a research base as well as help organise my ideas and show this project thoroughly from start to finish.

Here is a textile designer whos prints have really inspired me. I was thinking about foing floral prints but putting a new twist on it and I feel this designer has done. Her work is varied and I like all the different styles shes is practicing. I really enjoy the prints where the flowers are on a large scale and this is idea I would like to play with. Yet the design that stands out the most is the linier fine lined design. From looking at Patricias work I have realised that The fine line flowers and ink flowers is something I want to look into. My ideas for the smart materials are coming along as I am also doing a smart materials booklet. An idea that is circulating is that the sleeves move upward to create a different pattern. I need to see if this will work yet I am think I could have a floral design that moves up and creates a detailed illustration which could be a face?? I want to look into more of my ideas that I brainstormed in my visual diary. I could do quite a busy floral pattern like pataricia and move it into a detailed face maybe? -not my designs http://patriciabomeny.com

Here I have used my pinterest and researched some different floral print designs that caught my eye. One of my original ideas was flowers as I have many floral shirts yet noone ever does anything different with them. All of these floral prints are quite fine lines or inky which is a style I want to use. I quite like the one top left of this page as it creates the layer illussion I am enjoying at the moment. I do really like these floral designs and I feel that floral shirts would work really well as they are always on trend in some way. Maybe I could combine flowers with another idea of mine? I want to look at some actual designers to see what other designers are doing with the flower genre. -Not my designs.

I have so many ideas for this shirt idea.  Ive started thinking of what I could use to put onto my shirt.  I want it to be quite illustrative and it to have layers like my shirts have... So far I have many ideas and im going to gather some visual research for... Faces - I enjoy drawing faces Flowers - Maybe I could bring something different as they are used allot within fashion prints.  Mythical creatures - its something that interests me and would push my drawing skills...maybe look at unicorns they could work with shirts.  Vintage transport - My dad has this really funky car and I really enjoy trying to do technical drawing and getting it perfect and I feel vintages cars and vespas are really interesting.  Patch work - Patch work could work on a shirt as mine were kind of patch work like but not traditional patch work...look more into this??

Ive been finding it hard to think of an idea so I have decided to start my ideas but my favourite piece of clothing that I own. I have two vintage shirts shown here, I love the graphic designs within them and that every time I look at them I spot something I havent noticed before. I feel that this is a good starting point and I could look into smart technolgies that I could incorporate within this idea. This project is going to be very research based. I need to do some general visual research to help get my ideas going. I then want to look at trends but I may make up my own trend as this will make me push myself. I will also look into the fashion market and see if there is a want for developing smart materials into fashion. To do this I can look into fashion designers who are already doing this. I will also need to look at smart materials to see if the idea I come up with is tangible. For this booklet I will be showing the ideas I come up with and any photos I find or take that inspire me.

My final project is a very open to interpretation type of project.  We are having to look at smart materials and think of innovative ways to use them.  As I am becoming very interested in fashion I have decided that I will base mine on this. Im really not sure where I am going to go with this so I need to do allot of research.  I know that I want to do some illustrations in my work as I really enjoy this and I feel it will help me improve.  I think I may start close to home and look at what I like to wear and what my style is and work from there.
