Excerpt:
“You looked good out there,” offers Anakin, giving Obi-Wan a playful shove as he falls into step beside him. The words aren’t strictly true—Anakin has seen better swordsmanship, has seen better swordsmanship rather often in fact from Obi-Wan himself—but he has to give his master something. The uncertainty that holds his frame together like a bad soldering job simply looks wrong on him.
Obi-Wan huffs a bitter laugh. “I’m sure that’s not true. You took out almost half the squadron on your own.”
Which… might be true. Anakin might have gotten a little over-enthusiastic but come on. They’ve been walking all day! He was promised a war, danger on all sides, something real as opposed to the all the time he has spent in the Temple recently. Anakin knows he is inching ever closer to knighthood and he thought that might mean more missions out in the field, applying the knowledge and skills he has spent years learning. But it seems the closer he gets to freedom, the closer Obi-Wan forces him to stick closer to home.
Anakin knows he is close to becoming a knight. He has worked hard. His raw power in the Force rivals any of the masters on the Council. What a cruel irony it is that only this younger version of his Master is able to see Anakin’s potential for what it is.
“That’s because apparently, Skyguy has been and always will be a show-off,” says Ahsoka as she joins the two of them and passes them, leading them back to the men and further along the trek. “Especially when he has a certain someone to act as an audience,” she adds in an undertone that Anakin hopes only he can hear.
“What does she mean by that?” asks Obi-Wan. Of course, he overheard.
“It’s just nice to finally see some action,” Anakin says, a complete non-sequitur to avoid the subject. “We’ve been waiting all day.”
“Easy there, hot shot,” Ahsoka warns. “An attitude like that out here can get you killed. You’ll have more than your fair share of droids once we reach the city but until then, be grateful you’re not getting shot at.”
Anakin bristles at that. “I think I just proved I can take care of myself.”
Ahsoka shakes her head. “That was one squadron of battle droids, a small patrol group. Try a legion of them then add a fifty super battle droids and a few dozen droidekas. You can’t fight that with one Jedi and stubbornness. You need a plan and patience, your men at your back and the will of the Force on your side.”
“Sir, yes, sir,” Anakin says with dark sarcasm.
Ahsoka lifts her chin at him, her brief spark of anger growing cold. Like it isn’t directed at him anymore but somewhere inward. “Ask me how I know.”
Anakin makes the wise decision not to do that. He scowls into the trees and falls back into marching with everyone else. Brief excitement aside, they have a lot more walking to do and now that they have passed the first patrol party, their circumstances promise to only get more dangerous from here.
I recently got into obikin and your fics literally have me sobbing crying in a good way! You write inner conflict and emotional pain so so so well!!!!!! The way you write their characters as well!!!!! I adore the NASA fic, as well as the windows in tattooine! But Unlikely Duo is a fic I’ve read TWICE this month since I came across it! (I laughed at Obiwan making a DMV appointment and Anakin going “oh so you HATE me?” Our little drama queen) I adore the way you write them as people and then as a couple! You capture their competence and their dumbassery so well, as well as the down bad soulmate-ism!!!!!!!

I agree, their balance between competence and dumbassery (both separately and together) is one of the things that attracted me to this fandom in the first place, and is also a lot of fun to play with in fics. They are so good at so many things! Except for the things they are glaringly, hopelessly bad at! It's very compelling and very human of them.

Movie sin: a movie that you hate that everyone else loves or a movie you have never watched
Maybe 'everyone else loves' is stretching it a bit far, and maybe I just built it up a little too much in my head, but after joining tumblr and seeing all the Velvet Goldmine gifs we pass around here (myself included) I was like, well, obviously, I need to watch this movie. And I'll never complain about glittery Ewan McGregor dick on my screen, but...as a movie? God I was bored. I spent most of it trying not to fall asleep. And that surprised me! I listen to David Bowie! I expected to like it more than I did. I just don't think this movie is for me. (With that said - I'm not going to stop reblogging gifs when I see them. See above re: frontal AND rear nudity. I'm just not going to spend two hours on the movie again.)

anakin is clearly seeking comfort isn’t he?? and rejecting him would only make it worse, wouldn’t it? and if this will make anakin feel better than isn’t it the right thing to do for obi-wan to let him?? isn’t it??

honestly one of my favorite things about fanfic is when you can see the canon influences come out in really subtle ways. like a canon line thats mentioned once as a throwaway is suddenly the entire premise for a fic or it influences the characterization or something. its just so cool to see how people weave their ideas around a source material, especially if its not a detail i'd thought about before
