When you think of a hypnotic trigger, you might think of a special word, a phrase, a snap of the fingers perhaps. I propose using musical triggers instead. At the end of this post, I have such a trigger and an installation file for you to play. But first…

The Case for Musical Triggers

Here’s why musical triggers can be more powerful than traditional ones:

1. Duration.

The usual triggers take only a second or two to perform, but what happens next? Unless a hypnotist is around to provide additional suggestions, traditional triggers rely on the subject to remain in the triggered state all on his own. A musical trigger, on the other hand, can keep playing and thus keep triggering the sub to remain in the triggered state.

2. Suggestion.

Music, even outside of hypnotic context, is laced with suggestions. A slow or slowing down rhythm can suggest relaxation. Melodic and harmonic changes can suggest happiness or sadness. Thus - music can continuously suggest the target state to the subject even if this state is not fully triggered at the start.

3. Natural anchoring.

It is natural and effortless for us to associate music with experience. The classic example is the song you heard playing right after your breakup that makes you sad long after. A musical trigger can be similarly anchored to the desired state or behavior.

Installing a musical trigger

I offer two approaches for installing a musical trigger. For the most powerful effect, use both.

1. Awake anchoring.

Play the trigger when you reach the desired state and let it keep playing as long as the state continues and deepens. So with the flex trigger, you can play the trigger music as you flex in the mirror, and focus on how powerful and hypnotic every flex feels, almost as if your muscles are hypnotizing your mind with every flex.

2. Hypnosis.

Ok, this is the one you were waiting for. Hypnosis can be used not only to administer the suggestion that the trigger will make you flex, but it can also induce the state where your muscles crave to flex and anchor the trigger to that state. Other suggestion techniques can be incorporated as well. 

For the trigger attached, I recommend combining both approaches. If you have a hypnotist who trances you regularly, have that hypnotist install the trigger for you. If not, you’re welcome to use the installation file below. You can also supplement live sessions with the installation file. Expect to have a few anchoring and hypnosis sessions before the trigger becomes effective. The requisite number of sessions will vary from person to person.
