The Open Air Film Festival (Cinéma en plein air) allows you to relax on the green lawns of the Parc de la Villette, in the 19th district in the north east of Paris; as dusk falls the screenings begin. A cultural highlight every summer with a different theme each time, the festival welcomes thousands of film fans with a programme of French and international films, both new releases and cult films of the past. Entry to the screenings at the Open Air Film Festival is free of charge for all. You can hire deckchairs and blankets on site for a more comfortable screening, and audiences are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy it before the screening begins. All films are shown in their original language, foreign films are shown with French subtitles. (à La Villette)

When Napoleon III decided in the second half of the nineteenth century to undertake the renovation of Paris, he entrusted the work to Haussmann, the prefect of the Seine. The "Baron" Haussmann installed street lighting, improved the sewage system and created avenues and boulevards. Boulevard Haussmann is one of the "Grands Boulevards", thoroughfares originally opened under Louis XIV and enlarged by Haussmann, which now bears his name. Haussmann typical buildings now can be found everywhere in Paris.

The Eglise Saint-Eustache in the heart of Les Halles is one of the most visited churches in Paris. It is known for its unusually large dimensions, which make it seem more like a cathedral than a church, and the wealth of art works it houses. The church was built in 1532 and subsequently restored in 1840, and therefore uses a variety of styles: the façade is Gothic, while the interior is in the Renaissance and classical styles. The organ of Saint-Eustache is the biggest pipe organ in France, and its resident organist gives a free concert on Sunday afternoons. In keeping with its longstanding tradition of classical music, the church hosts performances all year round by symphony orchestras and choral ensembles. (à Eglise Saint-Eustache)

Place Vendôme was built on the orders of Louis XIV, as a grandiose setting that would embody absolute power in the very heart of Paris. Napoleon replaced the statue of the king, dismantled in 1792, with a bronze column made from 1,200 enemy canons. During the Second Empire, however, the octagonal square – a marvel of classical urban design – gradually became a showcase for luxury goods rather than political power. The world’s great jewellery brands have turned Place Vendôme and the adjoining Rue de la Paix into one continuous stream of window displays filled with sparkling diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer designed this building located in the 19th arrondissement of the capital, between the Buttes-Chaumont park, la Villette and Canal Saint-Martin. This masterpiece of modern architecture is the historic seat of the French Communist Party (PCF). Other renowned architects participated to its creation: Jean Prouvé, Jean Deroche, Paul Chemetov ... Completed in 1971, it is listed as a historical monument since 2007. From the outside, we admire its two beautiful and spectacular facades undulating, completely glazed. The Palais Brongniart was built upon the orders of Napoleon and is named after the architect that designed it: Alexandre Théodore Brongniart. Opened on 4 November 1826 by the Comte de Chabrol (the prefect of the Seine), it housed the Bourse de Paris (Paris stock exchange) for nearly one and a half centuries. The Bourse de Paris has since moved. The famous trading floor, around which stokebrokers dealt with the largest values quoted on the stock exchange, was removed on 14 July 1987. It remains one of the most beautiful building in central Paris. (à Palais Brongniart)

On the left bank of the River Seine, not far from the Eiffel Tower, the « Centre spirituel et culturel orthodoxe russe » is a fine architectural complex and an eye-catching landmark. The centre comprises a Russian orthodox spiritual and cultural centre with exhibition rooms, an administrative centre, and an educational centre. The centre's focal point is the Sainte-Trinité Russian Orthodox cathedral. Its 5 smooth gold onion domes, made of composite materials (a world first) covered in 90,000 leaves of gold, are topped by Russian orthodox crosses — the highest at more than 36 metres.

The Sacré-Coeur, consecrated in 1919, is one of the most iconic monuments in Paris. At the top of the Butte Montmarte, it has one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the capital, from 130 metres above ground. In a Roman-Byzantine style, the Sacré Coeur is recognizable by its white colour. Inside the building, the ceiling is decorated with the largest mosaic in France measuring about 480 m². The crypt is also worth a visit. And to go even higher up, visitors can access the dome where the 360° view of Paris is magnificent. A short walk from the Sacré Coeur is the Place du Tertre, the district of Abbesses with its steep, winding roads, and at the bottom of the hill, the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. The American Protestant Church in Paris is the first outside of the United States (1814). The current building dates from 1931. Many activities take place here, including English lessons, concerts and weddings! 🇺🇸 (à The American Church in Paris)

Rue des dames (Ladies street) 💃 This street is the local foodie paradise, with restaurants to satisfy any culinary craving: tapas-style dining at Lucien La Chance; the new-wave bistro Gare au Gorille; hearty fare in an easygoing atmosphere at Caves populaires and Tourbillon. For a taste of the countryside in Paris, check out the Hôtel Eldorado; its restaurant, Le Bistrot des Dames, has a charming garden in which to sit and have a drink or a meal. Inaugurated on the occasion of the 1900 Universal Exhibition and classed as a historic monument, the Pont Alexandre III is one of the most emblematic bridges in Paris because of its architecture and location. Pont Alexandre III connects the Invalides on the Left Bank to the Grand Palais and Petit Palais on the Right Bank. From the bridge you can enjoy a sweeping view of these buildings as well as the Eiffel Tower and over the Seine, which makes it a popular place for a stroll at any time of day or night. 🌳 Bois de Boulogne🌳 A former hunting ground for the Kings of France, the Bois de Boulogne has become the largest spot for relaxation in the west of Paris. With a surface area of 850 hectares, one of the ‘lungs’ of the capital encompasses the Parc de Bagatelle, the Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil, the Pré-Catelan and the Jardin d'Acclimatation. It offers numerous walkways, 28 km of bridleways and 15 km of touristic cycle routes. There are numerous facilities, which have been designed to suit everyone, such as playgrounds for children, the Musée en Herbe, picnic areas, bicycle hire and boat hire on the Lac Inférieur, the Auteuil and Longchamp racecourses, restaurants and the Théâtre de Verdure. Roland Garros! 🎾 The tennis season's major tournament, the French Open, once again have Paris buzzing with excitement. From 21 May to 10 June 2018, last year's winners defend their titles on the legendary clay courts of the Roland-Garros stadium. (à ROLAND-GARROS)

Port de l’Arsenal: The port has everything from landing stages and little boats to a harbour master’s office, gulls, and seafood restaurants. If it wasn't for the Colonne de Juilllet, several hundred metres away at Place de la Bastille, you would almost think this marina was a seaside harbour. Sheltered from the river’s ebb and flow by a lock, the canal basin of this former mercantile port links the River Seine with the Canal Saint-Martin. (à Bassin de l'Arsenal)

The roof of the Forum des Halles, known as the « Canopy » is crowned by a giant glass roof spanning an area of 270,000 square feet. This enormous roof comprises around 18,000 pieces of glass, which are supported by 7,000 tonnes of steel. (à Quartier des Halles)
