She leaned back on his couch, one arm over the back with her cheek propped against her knuckles. Dark eyes watched him as he started talking and kept going. She wanted to hug him, but at the moment that didn’t seem like what he needed, maybe in a few minutes.

“Maybe she didn’t really know ‘til right now, Ter.” Parvati didn’t want to make excuses for the girl, but she didn’t want him to think he’d been strung along for months. 

A tiny part of her was happy he wasn’t getting married, and she felt bad for that. “You need to get away from here and have a clear place to think.”

“How could you not know? She had a year to figure out ‘oops, I shouldn’t have said yes when presented with the ring.’”

A groan of frustration- anger- sadness escaped him and he rubbed his face. Maybe if he pressed hard enough he would jostle himself out of this hell and the questions that were perpetually plaguing him would be gone. 

“Well, starting Saturday I have a whole week off. We were planning to play it traditional and go straight into the honeymoon.”
