I always wondered why Taiju never forced Hakkai to quit Toman, something that doesn't happen until he makes that deal with Mitsuya.

Assuming this takes place before the BD story arc, it looks like Taiju did try to force Hakkai to leave, and that this "conversation" was left on hold by the time of the present story.

I decided to redesign Taiju's Easter outfit from PuzzReve! I felt the original one was pretty lackluster, so I wanted to fix it up.

I made him more buff (he's a big dude and he looked a bit lanky in the og lol), gave his outfit a light teal color to make it pop, have him wearing his hat (which has more embellishments now), made his coat longer, gave him gold detailing on his pants and sleeves and gave him a pocket watch and a bunny on his tie bar ❤️ The little chickies are just taken straight from the original art, I didn't redraw those lol

An anime original scene, added into Mitsuya's conversation with Taiju is a moment where he asks Hakkai to sit down with him, ultimately leading to Hakkai having a panic attack from being so close to Taiju and his violence.

I believe Mitsuya was just trying to include Hakkai in a conversation that involved him, but didn't realize just how much Hakkai feared Taiju. Even here we see Mitsuya is too preoccupied with Taiju to notice what is happening right next to him. This ignorance to the true situation at hand is something that is blown wide open in the climax of this arc.

As a writer who loves "show don't tell" and has GAD, I appreciated the addition of this scene. We know Hakkai is terrified of Taiju, but seeing his reaction just from being near his brother makes for a stronger delivery than it would from just stating it. The shortness of breath, the reluctance to be in their presence, it really makes it palpable to the viewer (and are all recognizable and realistic symptoms).

We got a look into Hakkai's fear earlier this arc, when Taiju first appeared. He goes from assertive and willing to fight to anxious and unable to look his brother in the eye, and the added scene in the anime builds on that.
