always thinking of how stefan and damon are each others biggest enablers. damon's more overt, always tempting stefan to drink human blood, leaving a cup of it in his vicinity to make him break edge, breaking him out of the dungeon where he's supposed to be vervained and starved of his cravings in the ripper era. and stefan's is more covert -- he claims his hands are tied because he's weaker (only drinking animal blood in s1) but even when elena is outraged what damon was doing to caroline stefan was literally damn that sucks 😶 like he knows what it's like to be a human being compelled by a vampire and enduring sexual abuse from them (ie katherine) and he was like damon's being damon. he barely reacted when damon killed his literal century long best friend. my take is damon enables stefan because he wants him to join him at his level, to morally corrupt the "good brother" sparkle he tries to have in the early seasons and stefan enables damon doing heinous things because he wants damon to be so reprehensible no one else could stomach to be around him... the whole reason stefan turned him at all, to be alone together all eternity; and damon's promise vice versa to make it hell for him
