❦ ~ This might not have been the best idea , how she was alone right now & treading along one of the school’s walkways. It was quite late , & she should probably be back in the dorms. However , it was one of the only chances she felt really comfortable being out , as during the day , the overwhelming amount of students never gave her much chance to do anything but go along with the flow of traffic with her head down , ducking into classrooms. If she got caught , she would one hundred percent take responsibility for this , though it did help clear her mind a bit ; feel less stifled. A small noise of surprise did leave her when she did run into someone else along the way , clasping her hand to her chest as it did cause her quite the fright. “ Oh , no. P—Please , do not a—apolo—apologize. My f—fault e—enti—entirely. “ Valerie says gently , taking a deep breath to really settle her nerves. For a moment , she thought she heard something , a small sound akin to a … cat ? No , of course not , she has to be hearing things ; there was no way. “ I s—shou—should be the one w—who s—shou—should a—apolo—apologize. “ ~ ❦

Shireen continued to hide into Morticia even as the adult’s attentions began to rouse her from her sleeping state. Trembling, the biting of the ropes around her belly still present despite having long-burned, the girl cried into the woman and clutched to Morticia and her stag figurine as tightly as she could. Pressing into the soothing touches, Shireen blinked up at the adult only half-seeing her. Someone had come for her, someone had answered her calls…

A relieved, pained, smile came briefly alive on her face as tears continued their free flow down her cheeks.

“…came… You came…” she whispered, throat raw with her upset, part of her lingering in her nightmare as she strove to do as bid, to wake up. “Th-thank you… ” The girl shivered as though she were still in the snowstorm which had descended upon her father and his army, as though the cold still gnawed at her very bones as it had then. Perhaps, it had never completely stopped its cruel, knife-like twisting within her…

“Thank you,” Shireen managed again, a little sob in the words. “I… No one came… They stared… I was… I called and-and they didn’t… Father burned me!” She pressed her face back into Morticia’s dressing gown, trying to calm her grief-stricken wailing as she hugged her stag to her chest.

Father burned me…  

Shireen beamed brightly up at her. “I’m glad that you have found talking to me as enjoyable as I have found speaking with you, Miss Morticia. It is good to have company such as yours that does not mind my… preoccupations.” The smile saddened somewhat, but remained on her face all the same. “Please… may I ask you what you think… of my father?” she asked softly, eyes falling to the stag perpetually with her laying in her lap, and caressing over the stump that remained of an antler as though it were a living thing she could soothe…

Many tried to avoid the topic around her and Shireen rather hoped that Morticia would indulge her in it. There were a few things she would appreciate getting off her chest if she could.     

Xavier chuckles then giving her a soft smile. Only one of his friends would be one to enjoy the thought of death out in a forest but to each his own. “Well, I’m glad someone found you out there or I wouldn’t be able to be your friend now and I don’t think the world would be the same without you in it. I know my life wouldn’t be the same.” He puts an arm around her as she rests her head on his shoulder

“I have a lot of old stories that I can share with you about grandpa and the things that we did together but I’ll tell you what. I still like hiking but I never in my life ever liked camping, there’s too many animals and bugs for me.” He shakes his head and laughs “I shouldn’t like hiking with all of it that I’ve done but it’s a habit that I never seem to have kicked and I always remember the dogs that Grandpa had that would go with us.”

“He tends to forget that the purse has to be filled in some fashion or another…I’m sure he’ll complain to you. A man must provide and work, no?”

He’s not intending to complain or even explain himself. It’s a simple conversation of note. Morticia will certainly see the cracks in a relationship that neither truly work on in earnest. Neither are truly kidding themselves. There’s a love there, but they are both benefiting from the other. Talbot is younger, unmistakably handsome – he makes Russell feel young again, and Russell has the ways and means to take care of Talbot in more ways than one. 

He stands, readying to excuse himself from the room before he stops himself. Another thought falling upon him.

“Before I forgot, Franklin has inquired about you. He’d like to meet you for some more insight on your fella. A fair warning, try not to be so charming. Franklin could fall in love with a goat should it bleat at him a certain way. The man’s a fool, but he does good work.”

Honeyed accent hides the truth of his origins. For thousands of years, the vampire king has absorbed a number of accents into his being. It’s only when he’s in an emotional high that one with a careful ear can hear the subtle changes, it’s when he’s in a rage than ones without a careful ear can hear. 

Smile spreads upon his features at the spied blush upon pale cheeks. There’s beauty in both sexes, but such beauty is accentuated upon shyness…or even embarrassment. 

“Stay here. Talbot has just finished decorating the added guest rooms.”

His consort is quite proud of the work and in turn Russell holds pride in it all. Money had been well spent when it came to the splendor of his Mississippi manor. It certainly rivals that of his homes in countless other sects of the world. She will find comfort within the walls – though, perhaps not such comfort when it comes to nourishment. Talbot tends to forget that those outside the vampiric persuasion need more than simple blood concoctions.

“I do enjoy the bloom of new love. I’ll have my man set out on a hunt.”
