𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲.

    𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬  𝐢𝐧  𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜  𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞  𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧  𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬  𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐟𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬  𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐥𝐲.  goro  knows  it’s  not  the  impressive  amount  of  double  americanos,  rather  the  boy  that  prepares  them.  he  thinks  he  knows  what  he’s  dealing  with  every  time  he  comes,  and  by  the  time  he  leaves,  he  has  a  different  impression.  so  far,  he  calls  today  it’ll  be  endearment.

   he’ll  hand  it  to  him—  𝘬𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘶  𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥  𝘰𝘧𝘧  𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘤𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺.  it  nearly  caught  goro  off  guard,  dropping  his  hand  from  his  chin  and  paying   closer  attention  to  where  the  words  were  leading.  and  it’s  not  very  far,  given  how  they’re  forgotten  for  the  laughter  that  bubbled  instead.  a  pretty  sound,  akechi  would’ve  complimented,  had  the  quick  peck  to  his  lips  not  startled  his  attention.  it  reminds  him  why  he’s  always  at  the  edge  of  his  seat  when  it  comes  to  him,  or  why  he  hasn’t  found  a  new  go - to  café.

   akechi  has  to  smile  at  that  whole  mess.   ‘‘   actually,  could  you  try  again  ?  i  would  love  to  hear  the  rest  of  it.   ’’   not  that  he  needs  an  excuse  to  kiss  him  again,  but  the  theatrics  are  part  of  the  chase.  it  played  well  to  the  fever  dream  feeling  anyway.

      HIS  EYES  ARE  FIXED  UPON  THE  OTHER ,  inspecting  him  with  an  almost  scientific  curiosity .  when  he  speaks  his  voice  is  full  of  breathless  wonder .  ❛    please  excuse  my  boldness .  but  you’re  absolutely  breathtaking . your  features  are … so  exquisite .  have  you  ever  considered  modeling ?    ❜ 

  akira  is  good  at  setting  things  in  motion.  as  everything  does,  it  comes  with  a  fault;   𝘩𝘦  𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵  𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸  𝘩𝘰𝘸  𝘵𝘰  𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦  𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮  𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱.  goro,  had  he  been  on  his  prime  and  radiant  from  his  illusion  of  triumph,  would’ve  pulled  the  trigger  already.  it’s  how  he  knows  the  only  one  in  akira’s  way  is  himself,  and  that  might  just  be  to  akechi’s  advantage.  his  eyes  go  impossibly  narrow  at  this.  a  stab  to  the  chest:  he  hates  pity.

  ‘‘   you  .  .  .  you  don’t  mean  that.   ’’

    𝗮𝗻𝗱  𝗶𝘁  𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁  𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺  𝘁𝗼  𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲  𝗮  𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.  in  an  alternate  timeline,  his  ideal  one,  kurusu  would’ve  never  continued  being  a  thief.  meaning,  there  would  have  been  no  need  for  the  air  to  be  filled  with  anything  other  than  fresh  brewed  leblanc  coffee.   ‘‘   it's  .  .  .  odd.  i  never  thought  i’d  care  for  you   as  much  as  i  do.  i  don’t  know  how  you  did  it,  but  .  .  .   ’’   akechi  takes  a  deep  breath,  the  gunpowder  settling  on  his  lungs.  it’s  too  late  to  entertain  that  thought  now.  it’s  too  late  for  anything,  contrary  to  what  akira  thinks.   ‘‘    .  .  .  it  doesn’t  matter  now.   ’’   see  ?  even  his  love  couldn’t  be  enough.

   he’ll  call  it  that,  love,  for  the  sake  of  having  something  to  gain  out  of  it.  in  the  end,  it  was  a  daze,  he  supposes.  threading  quietly  between  deceit  and  honest  to  god  emotion.  so  quietly  he’d  forgotten  where  he  stood,  and  is  now  facing  the  aftermath  of  genuine  care,  as  much  as  goro  would  love  to  deny  it.  would  love  to  love  with  all  his  heart.  it’s  not  the  right  timeline,  he  reminds  himself.

   the  last  of  his  strength,  or  spite,  has  him  struggling  to  grab  akira’s  wrist,  direct  the  gun’s  barrel  to  his  own  temple,  never  once  breaking  eye  contact.  he  waits  in  silence  for  two  beats,  one’s  of  his  heart,  and  does  not  move.  not  even  when  speaking,  despite  the  near  inaudible  crack  on  his  voice:   ‘‘   𝐢’𝐥𝐥  𝐬𝐚𝐲  𝐢𝐭  𝐟𝐨𝐫  𝐲𝐨𝐮,  𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧.   ’’

      ❛    YOU  KNOW  YOU  DON’T  HAVE  TO  DO  THAT .    ❜  his  voice  is  soft ,  slight  amusement  &  fondness  in  his  tone .  he  makes  an  attempt  to  steal  the  dirty  dishes  akechi  had  moved  from  the  tables  to  the  kitchen  area  behind  the  counter .  ❛    i  do  get  paid  to  do  that  y’know ?    ❜ 

   ‘‘   𝐢𝐭’𝐬  𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲  𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫,   ’’   and  he  evades  the  attempt  swiftly,  setting  them  in  the  sink.  thankfully,  he’d  been  so  clever  as  to  bring  his  hair  tie  with  him,  and  he’s  tying  his  hair  away  from  his  face  as  to  maneuver  around  better.  for  once,  𝘪𝘵’𝘴  𝘢𝘴  𝘪𝘧  𝘩𝘦’𝘴  𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨  𝘰𝘧  𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳  𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴.   ‘‘   i  feel  a  little  selfish  just  watching  you  do  all  this  work  behind  the  counter,  and  i  figured  i  wouldn’t  make  a  𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦  assistant,  haha.  plus,  we  can  talk  more  freely  this  way,  don’t  you  think  ?   ’’
