第一次知道金烔完這個人，是從他退伍後上的那集強心臟。

The first time I knew of this person Kim Dong Wan, was from that episode of Strong Heart which he appeared after his military discharge.

那時候只覺得這位偶像界的前輩好陽光好開朗，談吐又很幽默，是很有趣的人。後來入了神話山後，才發現烔完有著難以與他陽光爽朗的外表聯想在一起的個性。

At that time, I simply felt that this veteran idol is so bright, cheerful, chatty and humorous. He is a very interesting person. It was only after I became a Shinhwa Changjo then I realized Dong Wan has a personality which is difficult to associate with his sunshine-like image.

就如他自己曾在BLOG所說，他對於自己被寫成「慷慨大方並帶領成員前進的人」是相當不好意思和感到抱歉的（註1）；玟雨也對SJ晟敏說過：「試著和他相處三天試試看吧！」（註2），由此可知，金烔完不像是一般大眾以為的那麼正面開朗。他不只想法特別，在生活上的眉眉角角和小規矩都很多，這都可以從神話放送找到證據：在《神話的品格》裡，時間都快不夠了還硬要用湯匙分綠豆煎餅；《神話來了》對著說要把泡菜加進炒雞湯裡的彗星不耐煩與發脾氣……以及無數次被黑白的冷笑話梗，都可以看得出他有他獨特的思路和堅持。

Just like what he previously stated on his blog, he felt embarrassed and sorry by a news article which described him ‘as a generous person who leads the members (blog post on 03/09/12); Min Woo also once said to Super Junior’s Sung Min: “Try being with him for 3 days!” (Shinhwa Broadcast Hallyu Channel). We can see from these that Kim Dong Wan is not as positive and cheerful like what most perceived him to be. Not only does he thinks in a special way, he is meticulous in his daily life and set many little rules for himself. The evidence for all these can be found in Shinhwa Braodcast – In the ‘Gentlemen’s Dignity Channel’, he insisted on using a spoon to divide the mung bean pancake despite that time was running out; in the ‘Farm Channel’, he was frustrated and threw a tantrum because Hye Sung wanted to add kimchi to the chicken soup….and the numerous black-white seals fallen on him due to his lame jokes, we can see that he has his own unique line of thinking and persistency.

Frankly speaking, it is not easy to get along with a person who is easily triggered off by so many of his little mines. How did such a person have chosen to lead a life of a celebrity which requires him to be constantly in contact with people and earn his social recognition? Why did he choose to go on the stage? Dong Wan adheres tightly to his moral values and does not really care how others view him. However as a celebrity, he definitely has to change himself to a moderate extent in order to meet the expectations of the public…

Although he is still not afraid to do whatever he likes (for examples spraying water onto over-zealous fans, publicly reprimanding someone on his blog, using a feather to dig his nose during broadcast), there are still times he would need to constraint himself and these are the times which I think he must have felt very torn and disgusted. However, it is because of his deep yearning to be on stage and with the support his family, friends, Shinhwa members and Shinhwa Changjo, not only had he walked through this path, he has done it for many years.

The most difficult part of being a celebrity is ‘forgetting oneself’. I think the reason why Dong Wan loves reading, watching movies and hiking so much is perhaps he often has this contradiction about his ‘self-identity’, so he needs to take a walk outside, allowing his soul to venture to another world to release stress and also to think about what his next step would be.

I really like what he said during the last talk of the 10th anniversary concert. When the orange balloons were released at the end of the concert, he also put on a helpless and dismayed little smile and gently wiped away Jun Jin’s tears.

Different from the feeling which Min Woo gives through his sweet words, Dong Wan’s words doesn’t sound that sweet but they give a much more ‘sense of certainty’. It’s close to the heart, very real and related to daily life, like something we might probably hear tomorrow from the people around us.

Myung Heesook, News1star ) Group Shinhwa showed off their steady sense of humor.

On KBS2 ‘Happy Together’ aired on January 12th, Group Shinhwa made their guest appearance.

Shinhwa showed their ruthless sense of humor right from the start. Eric revealed that Minwoo gave him advice to go for ‘3 Meals A Day’ by saying “Hope you could join the show for our team”.

When the MCs asked “Shouldn’t you treat him with something?” Eric made people laugh by answering with “Is that necessary”. Eric said “I don’t like getting a focused shot on camera. But It wasn’t like that on 3 Meals”, sharing how it was like on ‘3 Meals A Day’.

Hyesung showed his suspicion saying “Eric eats what is left from us. I think it’s a pressure to cut down on food cost.”. Eric answered “You can eat whatever you want. But I don’t want to eat what’s intentionally set aside for me”, being silly.

Andy also mentioned about Eric on ‘Again miss Oh Haeyoung’, saying “He was so cool in the drama, but we know what he is in real life. He’s a mischievous man.”

Minwoo also shared “I was eating a banana while watching the kissing scene with Seo Hyunjin at the seafood restaurant. I threw the banana away”. After that each member talked about the kissing scenes they wish to do.

Shinhwa members were also having time to show their old talents. Andy showed the heart dance with a 2017 version, Eric danced to his version of Samba with Yoo Jaesuk. Junjin showed his dancing machine side as well.

After that, Eric’s dark history was revealed when Eric’s old picture was shown side-by-side with Yoo Jaesuk’s old picture, and they were looking alike.

[Sports Chosun Cho Yun Sun] ’Happy Together 3’ 20 years old group Shinhwa showed off their great sense of humor.

On KBS 2TV ‘Happy Together 3’ Shinhwa appeared as whole, showing their glamorous talk skills.

Shinhwa started with the charismatic greetings, and showed their 20 years of experiences. Eric and Junjin especially, and even Hyesung, who were afraid of variety shows, were very voluble. Junjin said to Hyesung, who kept trying to stay next to Junjin, “He tosses even the things he can’t do to me. If I don’t do it well, I get the blame. He controls me from behind”. Hyesung defended himself saying that he has a fear of variety shows “I was once on Happy Together without the members. I was so nervous I even got panic when asked how I was.” Later, Junjin also revealed the reason why Minwoo slipped and fell during overseas concerts rehearsal. It was because of the shoe insert “No one can stay on that thing. It’s almost an acrobatic dancing on that”, Minwoo then jokingly grabbed him by the collar.

When asked who he think to do well today, Eric replied with “I think Junjin”. And when asked “What about Dongwan and Minwoo?” He teased with “Dongwan and Minwoo have basics but they don’t have the killer hook”, and made everyone laugh. He also dissed himself saying “I have some gloomy feeling” when the MC asked how well he think he’d do. Eric revealed the reason why he decided to join ‘3 Meals A Day’. It was Minwoo. He said “I feel variety shows are pretty difficult and it was burdensome to be on for 2 nights and 3 days alone. I gave a lot of thought and decided not to join. I met Minwoo after and he asked what happened. He later sent me a long text saying since our new album is coming up I should do it.” MCs said “Shouldn’t you treat Minwoo with something” and Eric drew laughter with an expected response, “Is it really necessary?” Eric practiced making Kimchi with his mother before going in for ‘3 Meals A Day’ and he gave the Kimchi to members as gifts. Minwoo, who persuaded Eric to be on ‘3 Meals A Day’, only got Kimchi, but other members also got LA galbi, Dongchimi (radish water kimchi) and etc.. Eric got Minwoo shocked again saying “I told them to keep it quiet since I gave it privately.”

Besides this, Eric’s unique side was revealed too. Shin Hyesung said “Eric’s specialty is eating leftovers. It looks like he’s not hungry at first, but he keeps eating leftovers and now it feels like he wants us to reduce food costs.”  Eric replied with “It’s not about the cost. I like being abused a bit. It’s fun when they say ‘Don’t eat’. I don’t like when the food is intentionally left just for me.” With his on philosophy (?), he made people laugh. Eric did his version of the Samba dance with Yoo Jaesuk, and an octopus-like Harlem shake and caused rukus.

They also had a sincere talk about the rumors around them. Members admitted to the ‘Shinhwa time’ which the productions had to give them an hour earlier than their actual schedule since they got late many times. Eric explained “Recently we have our own company and as we get older, we don’t do much before any schedule. We try hard to be punctual.” Andy and Hyesung were the two that got disadvantages because of the ‘Shinhwa Time’. Andy revealed “While I was doing my solo I arrived at the station at 1PM, and there were no staffs. It was actually 3PM. It was frustrating.” Hyesung also said “I once was late because the van had a wheel problem. But nobody believed me.” Junjin added “people change”, emphasizing that Shinhwa has changed.

Also to a question if ‘Shinwha is only for business’, Hyesung says “We fought a lot for 20 years since we are 6 men of same age group”. Eric chimed in, “Hyesung and I are so opposite, fans call us ‘water and oil’. I’m more like a bit messy so Hyesung doesn’t like me going into his room. But I got curious how he react so I slept in his room. I don’t remember exactly if it was dream or not, but Hyesung got home, threw money at me and said get lost”. Hyesung admitted it, saying “I thought he was challenging me so I wanted to get even, and I had 1,000 wons in my pocket so I threw it at him.”

Eric and Junjin, the aces of the day, had a competitive challenge for ‘One Meme Is Worth A Thousand Words!’. Eric became ‘refreshing puppy’ with combination of Un Hyunkyung’s refreshing beer CF and Junjin’s dog mimic. Junjin showed the Chinese version of the great lines, being funny.

Shinhwa made another legendary show with their explosive sense of humor, as the ‘trustworthy’ entertainers.

On tvN ‘Three Meals A Day - Fishing Village 3’ aired on Nov.4th, the three men of “Three Meals A Day” spent 7 hours making dinner.

In this episode, Eric started making Dongchimi (winter Kimchi made with radish in a watery brine ) in the late evening for the next day. It’s surprising that he can just make the food right away. Meanwhile Lee Seojin made shades for sunlight in the brothers’ room.

The next morning, Lee Seojin put the fire on while the others were asleep. With that fire, Eric started to make Hobak-juk (pumpkin porridge) for breakfast. It was ‘breakfast’ but they had it at ‘lunch time’. But it was delicious with the effort Eric put in. (no surprise for the ‘lunch time’ breakfast as they didn’t go to sleep until 3AM the night before and didn’t get up till passed 10AM)

Later, Eric chose Jjajang-bap and clam soup as their lunch menu, something he can make quickly. Eric said he worked in a Chinese restaurant when he was on a show (Shinhwa Broadcast) so he knows how to make Jjajang-bap before. He easily made Jjajang-bap and then made the clam soup from a cookbook he found inside their room, being ‘E-Chef’.

Lee Seojin, who wanted to have lunch on time, helped Eric with prepping the ingredients and cooked rice. Lee Seojin was exploding his ‘functions’. Na PD even said Lee Seojin’s rice cooking skill had leveled up.

After the tasty meal, the trio went out and be the fishermen. With the help of a local fisherman, Lee Seojin and Eric went out to catch octopus using fishing traps.

Self-called ‘Fishing Ace’ Yoon Gyunsang went alone for fishing. Maybe it wasn’t so self-called. He caught the fish as soon as he threw his rode. So it came up with the idea of Sushi for dinner.

Eric started to make sashimi for sushi. The goal was 2 hours, but Eric was putting his maximum effort in filleting each piece of fish and it took lot of time.

The ingredients weren’t enough either, so Sushi became appetizer. They decided to make Bossam for dinner. Because it took so long for Sushi, so they had 7 hours of drama.

Slow but fantastic taste, and warm hearted, how can you not adore him.

On tvN variety show ‘3 Meals A Day - Fishing Village 3’, it took Eric 7 hours to make dinner, showing people the ‘turtle’ side of him.

With grumpy Lee Seojin getting tired as time went by, and Eric being slow like a turtle were the biggest laugh of the episode.

It started from the morning. Eric chose Hobak-juk (pumpkin porridge) for breakfast menu. He started cooking while Lee Seojin went to the sweet potato field. The goal was to make the food before noon.

But the Chef couldn’t finish making Hobak-Juk during morning. It was ready at 12PM. The 3 Meals brothers had to have breakfast like lunch. (can, if they woke up early like before 10AM heh)

This was just a beginning, dinner was the climax. While looking at the fishes Yoon Gyunsang caught, Eric gave an idea to make Sushi with the gift Lee Seojin got from a fan. The two of them started to make sushi.

Eric knew how to clean and fillet fish for sushi, so he started to make them with a total of 5 fishes. It was matter of time, how fast he can get the sashimi out of the fishes to have dinner on time.

But it’s Eric! He’s the master of taking things slow. He put a lot of effort and time to make sashimi out of each fish, and the dinner pushed back as he went.

Eventually it took 7 hours to have sushi as appetizer and the Bossam Lee Seojin wanted. On top of that they made noodles, and it was past midnight.

Even though he’s slow, yet you can’t hate but to love him more because the reasons are his foods are good and his good personality.

Lee Seojin tasted Eric’s noodles after fighting to not fall asleep, made happy smile with his unique dimples saying “It’s good. I can’t say anything to him because it’s good”.

And look at how thoughtful Eric was. He gave Lee Seojin a sitting cushion. Lee Seojin complimented “He should be going to ‘Grandpas Over Flowers’. He knows how to respect elders”.

At the end of the episode, Eric went to Norayngjin fish market to learn how to clean the eel because he felt sorry for taking so much time cleaning the fishes last time.

Who could hate this sweet, and good cook turtle!

‘Sent away Park Dokyung in hard way, now it’s Moon Junghyuk’

It was really fun to watch Eric.

The attention drawn to the 6th season of Three Meals A Day’s ‘Fishing Village 3’ was great even only with the fact that Eric who has never been on Variety shows alone since his debut with group Shinhwa in 1998. Trustworthy Na Youngsuk PD, Lee Seojin the icon of ‘Three Meals A Day’ and with that, Eric’s appearance on the show was also an expected point to focus on ‘Three Meals A Day – Fishing Village 3’.

The expectation was fully satisfied. Lee Seojin who acquired the boat license drove the ‘Seojini-ho’ (Seojin’s boat) himself got them to Deukryang-do, and Eric who drove his 3-wheeled motorbike wagon ‘Ericar’ (Eric’s car) himself were eye catching. Little primly but sincere words from Eric showed other true side of him you’ve never seen before.

The biggest reason why ‘Jungsun’ season wasn’t much of issues compared to ‘Fishing Village’ seasons was ‘the lack of cooking’. Eric’s appearance as ‘Eh-chef’ as a counterpart for ‘Chajumma’ Cha Seungwon brought everybody’s attention. Especially Eric using a plastic bag to make dough to avoid washing dishes, using scissors to cut the dough to avoid washing hands, washing potatoes with a metal scouring sponge to avoid pealing the potato, it showed Eric’s life as a single bachelor. Of course the foods tasted more than expectation. More to the lunch potato Sujebi, for dinner they had crab-doenjang stew, potato Jeon, steamed egg which made the great Deukryang-do table d'hôte. Lee Seojin tasted the Doenjang stew and said “I’ve never had this kind of Jjigae (stew) before. It’s the best Jjigae I’ve had in ‘Three Meals A Day’, first place definitely.”

Eric taking his time thinking before he does something was peculiar, but his manners towards oldest Lee Seojin and taking care of the youngest Yoon Gyunsang was a sneak peek to his good-natured personality.
