"noble maiden fair." 🌳 ⋆。‧˚ʚ ୨ৎ ɞ˚‧。⋆⋆。‧˚ʚ ୨ৎ ɞ˚‧。⋆
pt 2 of 'i knew it, i knew you.'
Emery goes back to the family home for a break and brings Trinity along to help her calm down after a stressful hospital week. But as Trinity plays and repeats things to Emery she couldn't possibly know, she wonders what other mysteries the house holds.
from a request by @rosewoodlibrary !! a bit of a supernatural one! more about memories but there is some mention of spirits!
Trinity squeals and runs around the yard, tossing up grass without a single care. She needed this. Between the stresses in her own life and the hospital, there was always some sort of pressure on her.
Emery watches from the porch with a cup of coffee, on the phone with Yolanda.
"Yeah she's running around the yard now."
"Really? She's okay? Hasn't cried, or fussed, or-" Yolanda sighs. "Wish I could've come along but I had to stay and...help Baran deal with- you know."
Emery watches Trinity jump into a pile of leaves and smiles slightly. The real reason she was back in Georgia was because Trinity had lost it on a patient. She only heard about it from Yolanda but apparently Trinity got grabbed by a man and then retaliated.
Violently.
Baran had to appeal to Gloria and was able to just get Trinity on a break instead of a full leave of absence. Next thing she knew Yolanda was begging her to take Trinity on a mini weekend getaway while they got things sorted back home.
Emery needed the break too, honestly. Anything to get away from that shitty hospital. And the house was growing on her. It was kind of nice getting away from it all.
"Emmy look!" Trinity yells from the leaf pile. "Leafangel!" She kicks it and the leaves fly everywhere, getting all over her clothes and hair.
Emery gives her a thumbs up. "Hey Yoyo, I'll text you updates. Let me know how Baran's doing, yeah?"She hangs up and relaxes back against the swinging bench.
Thank god they weren’t in Pittsburgh. Shit’s probably insane.
She glances back up and sees Trinity wander off into the yard. She tried not to worry. This place was impossible to get lost in. Her parents made sure paths and markers were put in to make the yard seem less vast.
Emery goes back to her phone to scroll. A few scattered giggles from the woods fill the air for a while until she decides its been long enough to start dinner and starts her search for Trinity. The paths were semi-overgrown, but still visible.
Time to put those tracking skills to use.
She looks down at Trinity's footprints in the dirt and smirks. Too easy. The path winds a few times until she gets to a clearing where she finds Trinity, in the grass and playing with her small bear carving.
"Trin!" Emery hollers out. "We gotta start dinner soon, let's head back in."
"Okay Emmy!" Trinity sprouts up and walks over.
"My god, you're a mess." Emery looks at the leaves and grass stains all over her, along with the rash on her legs likely caused by the rugged terrain.
"I made a friend!"
Emery squints in confusion. They were in the middle of nowhere. Only neighbors they had was a kind older couple and a man with his son.
Still, she plays along. Trin's imagination ran wild when she regressed.
"Really? Who?"
Trinity coos and looks around in confusion. "Um.. She disappeared! We played and then she went missing!"
Ah, imaginary friend.
Emery holds Trinity's hand to help her over a small gap and smiles. "Don't worry Trin, I'm sure she'll turn up."
Trinity pouts. She knows Emery doesn't quite believe her.
If only she could remember the name of the girl she played with.
As they walk, Trinity starts spilling random facts. "That's where you played right?" Emery tilts her head. "Hmm?"
Trinity points to an overgrown sandbox. Weeds were sprouting out of it, looked like it hadn't been played with in a while. "With toys." Trinity says. "You used to play there."
Emery smacks her lips. She did, but there wasn't anything around to prove that. "Um, yeah. Me and Elise did. How'd you know?"
Trinity shrugs and looks at it again. "Can I play in it?"
"Maybe next visit Trin, gotta clean it out of all the nasty bugs and weeds. Speaking of which, maybe a bath before dinner?"
She absentmindedly reads an old book while Trinity plays with a rubber duckie in the shower and squeals. "Emmy!" She squeals.
"Yeah Trin?" Emery was mentally going through dinner options in her head.
'Let's play Titanic!"
Emery's head snaps up in shock. Surely she wasn't- She gathers her thoughts and tries to word her question.
"What is-what is that game about?"
Trinity pouts and tilts a toy boat over. "You know! You-um. Sink all the ships in the baths!"
That was Elise's favorite game when Emery had the chore of watching her in the early days.
"Um, where did you hear about that?"
"My friend!" Trinity coos.
"Uh-huh." Emery responds blankly.
As Trinity eats dinner, Emery checks her phone at the cameras around the yard, making sure there wasn't anyone in the yard. Even though they had an electric fence and plenty of precautions.
But nobody.
Trinity doesn't lie, so who was she talking to?
As she's tucking the girl into bed, she finally decides to just ask. "So Trin." Trinity looks up from her book and nods. "Yes?"
"About this 'friend'.
"Who was it?"
Trinity squints. "Um. She said her name was El-Ellie, Elise?" She tries to think.
"Don't 'member. We played and she showed me the yard."
Emery's blood runs cold. Tears fall down her face without realizing. "I-wow."
She almost wants to ask. Ask if she's telling the truth. But the idea that her sister's memory is just out there in the woods that she can't see has her feeling emotional.
"Emmy, sad?"
Emery shakes her head and wipes her tears with a gentle smile. "No, sorry Trin. Didn't want to cry on you."
Trinity yawns and holds her bear tight. "Mmmm..." She thinks. Then pats Emery's cheek. "'s okay. Wendy with her!"
That almost brings another set of tears. She heard about Wendy from Baran. It was heartbreaking that Trinity went through something like that as teenager. Literally a child.
Emery pulls out her phone and smiles at a text from Baran. She presses the 'Facetime' button and hands the phone over. Trinity looks confused until Baran answers.
"MAMA!" Trinity squeals, hugging her bear. "Guess what did today!"
Emery steps out to let them talk and wanders downstairs towards the porch. She looks outside at the darkness of the yard, hoping to see something. Maybe a glowing orb or a voice.
She sighs. What was she thinking. One of her old carvings was in her pocket when Trinity handed it to her.
But Emery just puts it down on the porch and heads back inside to make sure Trinity gets to sleep easy.
The carving would be gone in the morning, none of the cameras would catch it. All that was seen was a gentle breeze and a slight glitch on the footage.
But if anyone looked closely they could see a little hand pick up the carving and walk off into the woods, disappearing into the darkness.
Trinity would tell Emery she saw a wisp in her dreams and was excited to go back out into the woods.
"Do whatever you want Trin, okay?" She says with a smile, and sips her coffee.
"But if you see your imaginary friend again,
Tell her I say hi."

this was a good request! really liked the ghost story angle!
I’d love to see something involving a person from Trinity’s past showing up. I cant remember if you’ve written anything involving that before. Either little or shapeshifter
"I wish I knew what I was doing but, I never do." ᨳ𐔌՞ ˕ ֊՞𐦯ᜊ🦢
Trinity's older sister visits Pittsburgh. There's some strain on their connection due to not talking for so long.
bit of a sad one guys
They were eating dinner when Trinity's phone rang. She had regressed, was playing some game on the rug so they ignore it.
Until it rings two more times.
Baran and Yolanda give eachother the, 'do you want to answer it or do i?' look until it rings another time and Baran grumbles and gets up.
Baran flips it over to look at the Caller ID.
Agnes.
The sister that stopped talking to Trinity after she got married.
"Fuck." She mumbles. Yolanda looks up in concern, making sure Trinity isn't overhearing before strolling over. She makes the same face as Baran.
“If it rings one more time we should answer, right?”
Baran is about to reply when the phone rings on cue.
Fuck it.
Forgive me, Trinity.
She presses answer and holds it up to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Finally Trinity, jesus christ you used to be glued to your phone, I'm calling to chat."
Baran should’ve prepared herself for talking to Trinity’s sister for the first time. She sounded pissed off.
Like Trinity’s voice but a lot deeper and aggressive.
“Trinity can’t come to the phone right now, I can take a message though.” Baran loosely feels Yolanda’s hand wrap around hers in comfort. She didn’t even notice how hard she was tapping her foot.
Agnes on the other line groans and Baran swears she could hear her cursing. “Fine. Whoever this is. I’m coming to Pittsburgh for a work thing next weekend. Thought Trinity might want to catch up.”
Baran smacks her lips in disbelief. Agnes was always just an idea to her. Maybe they'd get a few letters with holiday or birthday cards but all she knew was that her and Trinity didn't talk, and that was it.
The concept of her actually coming to see her was odd.
"Um." Baran starts. "I'll.. ask her about it."
"Great." Agnes says blankly before abruptly hanging up.
Baran lets the silence sit before resting the phone on the counter.
"So what'd she want?" Yolanda asks.
"To see her. Apparently she's got a job thing here and she..." She trails off to look at Trinity on the rug. "She wanted to visit." Yolanda whistles in disbelief. She knew even less about Agnes than Baran.
"It should be Trin's choice then. We'll talk to her about it, okay?"
That evening they sat her down in the bedroom to tell everything that happened. "Trin, um. I don't really- so you got a phone call a bit ago."
Trinity squints in thought. "Who? Was it Dennis again asking how to work the utilities. You'd think he'd understand how that apartment works by no-"
"It was your sister." Baran interrupts.
The color drains out of Trinity's face.
"w..Why." She asks quietly.
Baran and Yolanda didn't like this at all. How Trinity was practically shrinking into herself and avoiding eye contact if she was avoidinf something stressful.
Not painful, Baran noted. Stressful.
"It was..." Baran hesitates. "She's coming to Pittsburgh next weekend. Said it was for her job. She asked if you wanted to meet up."
"Meet up?" Trinity scoffs, almost laughing at the audacity. "Five years of half-assed birthday and holiday cards and now she wants to meet up?"
She crosses her arms in frustration and taps her foot. Baran and Yolanda take a seat next to her on the bed to try and offer some comfort. "You don't have to see her if you don't want to." Yolanda starts.
"I know your relationship with her is....complicated."
"By complicated you mean she dropped out of college to marry her country music boyfriend and then ditched me to move to Texas with him."
Baran and Yolanda's eyes widen. Not as bad as they thought, but Jesus.
"Maybe- you think she actually wants to talk to me?" Trinity thinks out loud. "Like about everything?"
Baran puts a hand over hers. "It's your choice if you want to do this Trin. But we're here whatever you choose, alright?"
Trinity nods and glances at her phone. At the texts Agnes sent a bit ago about her flight times and plans.
"I think.... I wanna try."
Why did I decide to do this. Why the fuck did I listen to Baran and Yolanda about making amends.
Her saving grace was Emery's apartment being near the restaurant Agnes chose for brunch so if it got dicey she could make the sprint over. She was in a casual dress, one she hadn't worn in a while, but baran encouraged.
Of course B had to tie a ribbon in my hair. I should've gone with jeans and a t-shirt.
She glances at her phone. It had been 10 minutes since the actual time they were supposed to meet. Only a few texts from the group chat with Baran and Yolanda and a 'running late!' text from Agnes.
She's about to call when she hears a familiar voice.
"Trinity!"
Fuck.
She looks up and sees Agnes, power walking over. She looked way different. Evidence of a tan on her face, eye bags, painted nails,
33 looked decent on her. Trinity had forgotten how long her hair was. When they were younger they had a competition on who's hair would be the longest and of course Agnes won.
"It's been so long, how are you?" Agnes is about to hug her when Trinity takes a step back and opens her hand for a handshake.
"Great. How about you?" She hated being cold but Agnes's overly chipper attitude was somehow pissing her off.
Agnes smiles still and shakes her hand. "Wow, you haven't changed huh, T? Come on, let's get our reservations."
The brunch place was nice, there were flowers decorating the outside seating with a few fans to keep cool.
"So how's that med school thing going?" Agnes starts, glancing up from her menu.
Trinity doesn't look up. "I graduated med school Nessie, I'm a doctor."
Agnes snorts. "Haven't heard that one in a while. But seriously, how are you? I keep meaning to text but-"
But you're busy and you're working and you don't care about me. Trinity finishes in her head.
"And this new job is practically taking over. Josh is so happy for me but we never spend any time together anymore."
Trinity is so happy when the waiter comes to take their orders.
She's mid fucking up a stack of pancakes when Agnes continues talking about her life, barely giving Trinity time to ask anything.
"So what's the worst thing you've seen in the hospital?" She asks. "You always loved the gorey stuff, guess it's like a dream for you, huh?"
"My first shift was during the Pittfest shooting." Trinity states blankly. "I think I've been through enough to last a lifetime."
Agnes almost chokes on her tea and goes silent in guilt. "I'm sorry." she says quietly. Her phone starts ringing and she looks down with a sigh. "It's Josh, probably gonna be quick."
Trinity rolls her eyes and is prepared to take out her own phone before some buzzwords pop out at her.
"No, her rattle is in the kitchen usually. And her toys are in the nursery drawer."
Nursery drawer?
"Got it? Great, call you later babe." Agnes hangs up and goes back to her tea.
"What was that about?"
Agnes glances up at Trinity with a slightly guilty expression. "Oh just Josh couldn't find the uh toys."
"Toys? For what?"
Agnes sighs, like she just realized she couldn't get out of this one.
"For my daughter."
Trinity quietly puts her fork and knife down and takes a deep breath out her nose, attempting to find the self-control she needs to deal with this.
"You have a daughter."
"And I didn't know."
Agnes clears her throat. "She's only two Trin, you still have time. Her name's Lily and she's like a breath of fresh air. Just wait till you visit and then you me and Mom and Da-"
Trinity slams her plate down and stands up. "This was nice Agnes." She grumbles, taking out her wallet and handing her a twenty before walking off. "Let's not do this again."
Trinity storms out the restaurant, ignoring Agnes's voice behind her. "Trin, wait, Trin."
"What." Trinity turns around on the sidewalk. "I know nothing about you. I don't know what your morning routine is, I don't know what your job is, I don't know your hobbies, I didn't even know you had a daughter."
She had just sent a text to Baran and Yolanda to come get her.
"Well-" Agnes starts in a panic, tears falling down her face. "Just, you cut off Mom and Dad, and they were so mad at you so I thought- that included me. After the gymnastics thing and Wendy... I-"
"Why would-what-"
"I thought you didn't care Trin, so it didn't matter. That maybe you'd reach out first and we could talk and-"
"Stop." Trinity sighs. "I'm not going back. Not to New York. Not to see them. They picked their side after everything that happened with the coach, and-" She blacked it out from her memory years ago, why was this happening.
Baran and Yolanda were probably nearby by now.
"I know why you're here Agnes. Maybe it is for your job. But I think,
"You just wanted to wipe me from your conscience. And then go back to your perfect little life."
Trinity feels tears prick the corner of her eye and wipes them. She's about to say something else before Baran calls her and she starts storming off, leaving Agnes shocked.
She didn't have the heart to look at her.
Trinity makes it around the corner and sees Baran step out the car. She doesn't need to tell her. She already knows.
All Baran needs to do is open her arms and Trinity runs into them, letting her tears fall. The older woman caresses her head and kisses her scalp. "Shhh, it's okay my love." She guides her into the car and sits in the backseat with her as Yolanda drives them home.
"It's okay Trin." Yolanda says with a quiet sigh. They drive past the brunch spot where Agnes had vanished, no trace of her left behind.

little!trinity who has a really bad day at work and all she wants to do is go home, cuddle her mama and watch frozen
"bless this good and solid ground." ❄️. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁🌨️ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.. ݁₊ ⊹❆ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ .
Trinity goes home after a hard day of work and just wants movies and cuddles.
realized how similar this is to my 'infinite baths' fic but this one's fluffy!
"Mmm.." Trinity groans into her arms. The shift had been... a shift. The blizzard had brought in too many patients ranging from sprained wrists to frostbite.
She lifts her head to see a patient being wheeled by with heating pads wrapped around both of his arms.
There goes another one.
They had just gotten a critical patient who fell off a pier into freezing waters. Had pulled through, but Trinity was just grateful not to have to sit through another moment of silence.
"Santos!" Robby hollers, walking up to her. Trinity lifts her head tiredly. Ten minutes until the end of shift T, come on. Only thing that made her more tired was the fact Baran was home for the day. The lack of the other woman seemed to affect her more than she liked.
"Trauma coming in, know you're tired but can you hop on?"
Trinity silently stands up and gives him a thumbs up. "Yep." She drawls out. Last one and then she can start heading home.
Last one seemed to mean fifth to last.
It's 7:50 when she's trudging out to the hospital parking deck, pulling her jacket closer in an attempt to get warm. She had to drive herself home since Yolanda had to stay late to catch up on all the blizzard casualties.
Her phone buzzes with texts from Baran.
B 🩷: Drive safe hun, okay? The blizzard messed up a lot of the roads.
B 🩷: Text me when you leave
B 🩷: Actually don't text and drive
B 🩷: Drive safe !
Trinity gives it a thumbs up and heads to her car. The drive home was slower than usual, having her take the back roads to avoid the many closures.
When she parks in the driveway, Baran opens the door with a relieved look.
Trinity only needs to make eye contact before she runs to hug her.
"Oh, hun was the shift bad?"
Trinity shakes her head and nuzzles into her shoulder. She always loved how warm Baran was.
"Long day. Missed you." She murmurs.
Baran kisses her cheek with a soft sigh. "Let's get you warmed up. Get some food and a shower in you then we can watch a movie? Yolanda doesn't want us to wait up for her, but I'll still leave the light on."
Trinity nods as she's guided inside. The heater was definitely doing its job. She barely feels Baran help her tug off her puffer jacket and jumping at the amount of flurries that are shaken off.
"Jesus, azizam. Let's do shower before food." She laughs.
Trinity is then whisked up into the bathroom where she has the warmest shower of her life. And after Baran's famous soup, she feels better than ever. Not enough to fully regress, but just enough for the work day stress to wash off.
"Alright, what movie Trin?" Baran kneels down in front of the dvd drawer and digs. Trinity usually liked Barbie but she seemed tired, so maybe an old Disney one? After a few minutes Trin speaks up.
"Frozen!"
Baran turns with an eyebrow raised. "You want to.., watch Frozen," she starts.
"During a blizzard."
"Mmhm!" Trinity confirms.
Baran thinks for another second before smiling and shaking her head. "Ok but no shivering on my watch!" She pops the dvd in and takes her place next to Trinity with a big fluffy blanket around the two of them.
When Anna starts singing about it being the first time in forever, Trinity starts blinking back sleep, using Baran's chest as a pillow. Baran doesn't notice until the song is over, but smiles and pauses it when she hears the quiet snoring.
"Alright, bedtime." She murmurs. "Tomorrow's another shift."
She carries Trinity up to bed and as she's kissing her head the front door creaks open. A few minutes later Yolanda watches from the doorway.
"Blizzard was no joke. She go down okay?"
Baran nods and fixes Trinity's hair with a gentle smile.
"Was a bit tired, but nothing cuddles and a movie couldn't fix."
Yolanda nods and heads into the bathroom to shower.
Baran cuddles next to Trinity and whispers before closing her eyes.
"Sweet dreams my love."
"And if you have any nightmares, don't you worry."
Emery has to go home to pack up her house and brings along Samira, Baran and Trinity to help out. Trinity finds some of her late sister's toys, leading Emery to decide if she should move on from the past or keep the house and make new memories.
connected to little!trin au and also inspired by this art i did !!
"Woah, this is your house?!"
Trinity exclaims as they walk in.
It had a large landing, with the stairs a few feet away and a bunch of open doorways scattered throughout. Emery puts down her bag and sighs quietly, glancing at the empty shoe rack before starting to untie her sneakers.
"Yep. Born and raised."
"Trin, take your shoes off at least." Baran smiles and Trinity bounds over to her.
Emery walks into the foyer and glances around. She hadn't been here in a long time. Since she graduated really. There were some family portraits on the wall, paintings, she's about to venture into the kitchen before Samira gently holds her hand.
Emery.
Em.
"Hey." She snaps in front of her face. "You okay?"
Emery looks over at Trinity who was exploring the house, in and out of every room with Baran close behind making sure she didn't break anything.
"Y-yeah. I just- being back here is crazy."
"My oldest brother used to come with his kids after dad died. But after that.. it kinda just sat here."
Samira rubs her back. "It's okay to feel weird about it. Look, we're only here for a weekend to get everything packed and throw it on the market."
Emery nods at her words. They just had to pack up the many rooms, going through the things, deciding what to keep and what to donate,
it was a lot.
She invited the girls for help, and moral support.
There was also something else she kept hidden.
When Elise passed they moved all her things from the shared bedroom into a spare room.
Nobody in the family had the strength to go in since her death.
But as Emery feels the silhouette of the key in her pocket she knows its coming.
That she has to deal with it.
Samira seems to notice Emery's stress and kisses her cheek. "Let's start small. Pack up downstairs first, take a break, and get at least the first floor rooms done before bedtime."
"Then we start the second floor tomorrow."
Samira always had a plan for things. That's what she loved about her girlfriend the most. Always able to find calm in the chaos.
"Emmy! There's so many rooms up here!" Trinity squeals from the top of the stairs, already running off to explore more.
"Trin.." Baran groans, out of breath. "Don't touch...anything.."
"Give her a break Baran." Samira smiles. "It was a long flight, we can start around 1."
They mull around the house for the next hour, until Samira gathers everyone in the kitchen. The moving company had dropped off boxes the day prior, leaving plenty to pack up the house.
As they start the kitchen Baran admires all the ornate plates. 'Wow Em, these are beautiful, whose were these?" Emery looks over and smiles at the dining set.
The plates were her mom's from way back when. She used to collect them from thrift shops and antique stores. Emery used to love listening to her mom go on and on about them. She could still imagine trailing in front of her to wander around the store while her mom negotiated prices.
"My mom's." She says with a nostalgic smile. She thinks for a moment. "You can have them if you want. They'd only gather dust at the antique store." Baran's eyes glimmer with joy as she feels them and flips them over to look at the brand.
"You sure? I wouldn't want to-"
But Emery just grins. She'd prefer if the things went to a better home instead of rotting here.
Baran puts them in a 'Keep' pile. They'd have to pack a box to ship back to Pittsburgh if they found more things to take back.
The group gets about halfway through the kitchen before quiet whining comes in from the living room.
"Mama..." Trinity complains, loudly. "Bored...." Emery and Baran peek their heads in. Trinity had regressed when they were on the way to the house from the airport, so they settled on giving her a few toys Baran had packed just in case. She wouldn't exactly be quick at packing.
Baran sighs. "Baby, you wanna try helping pack? Might be fun, there's some cool stuff." Trinity thinks for a moment. She was sure big her would enjoy learning more about Emery's past and maybe finding out more about Elise.
But little her just wanted to play.
"NO!" She pouts and goes back to her coloring book. something they picked up at the airport before they left. Baran huffs quietly and rubs her eyes. She really wasn't in the headspace to deal with this right now. She's about to psych herself up for a lecture before Emery puts her hand up.
"Trin, how about some outside time?"
The little tilts her head. "''side?" The house seemed to be nestled in a nice wooded area, the backyard was probably big but she hadn't seen it yet.
Emery nods then tilts her head. "Wanna see the yard?" Trinity's curiosity gets the better of her and follows Emery down the hall to the back door. When she opens it, she sees acres and acres of forest. Wide and open land with so many fun possibilities.
Trinity squeals and steps in place. "Can we play? Please Emmy??"
Baran comes out and whistles at the amount of land. "Oh my god Em how many acres? You sure you guys weren't farmers?"
Emery laughs and looks around the yard. Around 45 acres of forest. Her and her siblings used to adore playing all day until their mom flashed the porch light for them to come back.
Baran then sighs and looks at Trinity. She couldn't help but worry about letting her girl wander around a forest without anyone watching her.
"Um Trin, you wanna just play on the back porch? So we can keep an eye on you?"
"But-but- trees! Outside!!" Trinity whines and stomps her feet.
"How about..." Emery starts. "See that tire swing?" She points towards a swing on a tree about 300 feet away. "Don't go past there, ok? Baran you think that's doable?" She asks curiously.
Baran looks at her and then at the tree. It was close enough for them to look out the window and check on her, but far enough that Trinity could explore to her heart's content.
"Fine. But when I flash the porch light you run right back, got it?"
"Yes, mama." Trinity was already excitedly bouncing on her feet and when Baran gives her the go ahead, she runs towards the tree.
"She'll be ok Baran. Besides, the yard is fenced in. She couldn't get farther if she tried." Baran sighs and spares one last look towards Trinity who was running towards the trees before following Emery into the house, leaving the door open.
It's hours later around 6 that they finally finish packing downstairs. The moving boxes were put in corners, and Samira starts cooking dinner with the groceries they got for the weekend.
Baran glances outside. Trinity had been running around the whole time they were packing, but she hadn't seen her for a while. She starts walking outside towards the tire swing. Emery follows, trying to not let the worry get her.
"We told her not to go- where is-" Baran murmurs frustratedly. When they get to the tree they see various footprints and handprints in the dirt.
"Trinity!" Baran yells. "It's time for dinner!" She waits for anything to happen before giggling catches her attention. "What-" It isn't until she looks up that her eyes widen in terror.
Trinity had managed to climb 15 feet up the large oak tree, watching them from her place on a large sturdy branch with a happy giggle. "HI MAMA!!" She yells down. "THERE'S TOYS UP HERE!"
Baran was trying so hard to prevent a panic attack and puts on a tight smile. "W-wow T-trin yo-you climbed all-all the way up there!" Emery holds back a laugh and waves her down. "Trinity, come down before Baran passes out."
"OKAY!" Trinity climbs down carefully, and when she's safely on the ground, Baran wraps her up in a hug, and after a full minute she pulls her back to check for injuries. Trinity was covered in dirt, along with a few leaves scattered in her hair like sprinkles.
"Oh, my love, you have splinters, let's get you cleaned up." Emery watches Baran fret over Trinity and she sighs and looks down at what Trinity dropped. She said something about toys, right?
She carefully climbs a few feet up the tree, not quite as high as Trin, but enough to see what the little was talking about.
The hollow of the tree catches her attention. Oh god, don't let there be a dead animal. She digs in it until she pulls out a stuffed doll. Looked a bit old, but-
Emery flips it over and sees the word 'Elise' sewed into the leg. She almost falls in shock.
Pulling out her phone flashlight, she peeks in and sees about a dozen toys stashed into the cavity.
Always full of surprises, Elise.
When she gets back Samira had almost finished dinner. "Heard someone climbed up a tree?" She asks when she hears Emery's footsteps. "Baran's giving her a bath."
"Surprised Baran didn't wrap her in bubble wrap." She giggles and wraps her arms around her girlfriend's waist. She knew she had to talk about it, and now seemed like a decent time.
"Elise put her toys up in the tree." She starts quietly. "Trinity found them."
Samira's eyes widen. Every time the topic of Emery's sister came up, she'd shut down and wouldn't talk about it. Maybe being home helped.
"How'd you feel about it?" Samira asks carefully, trying to tread lightly around the conversation.
"Well I-"
At that moment Trinity and Baran come in, ready to eat. "Food!" Trinity babbles. It looked like the bath put her in a younger headspace. Samira tables the conversation for later and chuckles. "Eat up Trin, I'm sure you had quite the adventure today."
Baran and Trinity sleep in the guest room, while Emery and Samira sleep in her old room. Her girlfriend had commented that it felt like her, and fell asleep instantly.
In the middle of the night she hears the floorboards creak, and the door quietly swinging open.
Emery's side of the bed was empty so she investigates.
Samira sees a lamp from a room lightening the hallway and curiously tiptoes until she arrives to the doorway.
Oh.
It was the locked room Emery had the key for. She was quietly sobbing and holding the doll to her chest.
"Em, what happened?"
"Bad dream?"
Emery shakes her head, trying to find the words. "N-no. It was a good dream. Like really good."
"I dreamed about her." She wipes her eyes.
"I don't wanna sell this place Mira."
"I can't."
"I can't be like my brothers who left this place to rot the second it got hard."
Samira pulls her into a hug and nods. "Then... we dont have to. It's all paid off right?"
Emery nods.
"We could just make it a vacation home. Or.. a place to run away to when we're sick of the hospital."
"Whatever it turns out to be,
It'll be ours."
Emery's eyes widen as another bout of tears fall down her face. "T-thank you. Mira."
Samira smiles and kisses her cheek. "Now who's gonna tell Baran and Trin tomorrow is gonna be mostly unpacking?"

toying w the idea that if shapeshifter!trinity gets sick it tends to hit her harder because her immune system still thinks she’s in her regular form and as a result if she’s shapeshifting it’ll it her harder.
ex. having a minor cough at 28- perfectly normal!
a cough at 2- oh god
also thought of this- she can’t shapeshift past the age she’s at because she has to see or feel someone to shapeshift into them
I saw that you headcanon Baran as being infertile in the shapeshifter!trinity universe, and I’m curious what you think about her inducing lactation so she can experience that level of closeness when Trinity is shifted to a baby?
maybe, i do like that concept!
i’ve been dodging these just cause i didn’t know if people would be weird about it plus wasn’t sure how to write it but maybe ill add it in at some point idk 💀
Could you do more shapeshifter! trinity when she's sick?
yes ! combined with a request about her teething ! i think i've done this exact premise before but this one's a lil more details.
"i'm not doing so well." ‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹♡
Yolanda groans as Trinity coughs another time. She was currently in bed, as toddler Trinity was cuddled into her side gnawing on a toy. She wasn't feeling too well, woke up with a low fever so Baran insisted she stayed home and rested.
Trinity whines and holds her head. Seemed the headache was coming back. Yolanda looks down in concern. "Head still hurts?"
Trinity holds Yolanda's hand and nods, whining more and starting to bite that too. "Trin I told you, you can't bite people." She gently grazes the back of her hand on her forehead. "Mm, don't like how warm you still are, even after Tylenol. And I'm trying to avoid another hospital visit."
Despite Trinity's protests she gets up to head to the bathroom cabinet for the thermometer. Trinity bites on the teething toy and babbles angrily.
"i know Trin," Yolanda sighs from the bathroom. "I'm coming." A few seconds later she comes back with a thermometer and puts it in Trin's mouth.
"Okay, what-"
105.6.
Yolanda almost drops it in shock. This was dangerous, more of because she was shifted right now and the fever would be more effective then if she was at her normal age.
"Looking like a hospital trip Trin." She lifts the baby up and packs a few things before heading to the car. "Bottles, diapers," she straps Trini in the car seat and kisses her head. "Just gotta call Baran to get a room."
Trinity coos and perks up. "Mama?" Yolanda walks around to the door to start the car. "Yes Trin, we're gonna see your Mama."
She pulls up into the ambulance bay where Cassie and Emma were already there waiting. Trinity was wailing the whole drive over, holding her head in pain as rashes broke out on her arms.
Yolanda runs out and grabs Trinity, her eyes widening at her. "This can't be a reaction, right?" She mumbles as she runs over. Cassie's eyes widen as she takes her. "Ohhh shi- Emma get a room ready and grab Samira and Victoria?"
Emma nods and rushes inside and Yolanda is about to rush move her car before Dennis comes outside. "I heard from Dana, I'll park the car, you stay with her."
"Thanks, I owe you." She runs inside after them towards a room, Trinity's screams echoing down the hospital halls.
Trinity was squirming in Cassie's arms as she put her down on the bed. "Wan Mama 'n Mamí!" She screams and tries to crawl off the bed in her rage. Yolanda rushes in and helps keep her steady so they can get an iv in. "Shhh, its okay Trin, you're at PTMC, we're here to help, okay?
Trinity whines quietly and clings to Yolanda's hoodie, quieting down in her arms.
"Looks like a nasty case of pneumonia." Cassie says with a sigh. "Baran's in a trauma but I'm sure she'll be rushing over the second its done." Trinity whines at the prick in her arm but coos at the snack Emma gives her.
"Now we just wait for the fever to break."
Baran rushes in about 20 minutes later. "Is she okay? I'm so sorry I-"
"Mama.." Trinity coos sleepily from Yolanda's arms and reaches up. Baran calms down and smiles. The rash had vanishesd and she seemed in higher spirits. "Feeling better my love?" She scoots into bed next to Yolanda with Trinity in their laps.
Trinity coos and gnaws on Baran's jacket. "Baby, what'd we say? No chewing." She quickly replaces it with a teething toy.
She rubs her back as she starts to doze off.
"Been teething all morning."
"When she's this little, she tends to pick a form where her teeth are coming in. Hence the teething. Goes away when she's back to her regular form like clockwork."
Yolanda smiles as Trinity finally sleeps. "I better not catch this, I swear."
Baran giggles and nudges her. "Yoli these germs run RAMPANT."
I lovvveee your shapeshifter trinity au so much, rereading always makes me smile sm, thank you for sharing this au with all of us <33
aww ty! honestly never realized this au would get so popular. I literally made it up while sleep deprived. Fun fact! it was inspired by this fic by @v3nusxsky abt larissa weems and shapeshifter reader and i thought it was so adorable

Oooh could we maybe see more night shift? Like Ellis or Shen babysitting Trinity??
'honeycomb' 🌿。𖦹°‧⋆.ೃ࿔*:・。°🍓‧⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Shen and Ellis have to keep an eye on Trinity as she stays in the hospital overnight but don't expect how chaotic it is. Baran stays near to help make sure its to a minimum.
"She got her Benadryl dose a bit ago and I have to do some rounds so, um, you think you guys can do me a favor?"
Shen and Ellis nod at the attending's words. Baran was working night shift tonight because some idiot brought blueberry muffins that had almond in them, and by the time Baran realized, Trinity had swallowed a few bites.
Cue the epipen and an overnight stay in the hospital. They had caught it early, but she wanted to be sure there was nothing else. Trinity had regressed during the chaos, and was now playing with the toys Dana had in her desk that Lena handed over.
"Anything." Parker replies.
Baran glances into the room and nods. "Can you keep a close eye on her? I know you guys have your fair share of crazies but I just want her to be alright especially when she falls asleep."
Shen nods and swirls his coffee. "Oh, of course! I'll make sure to swing by after my room checks."
Baran nods and cracks the door open. "Baby? I'll be in and out but Shen and Ellis will keep a good eye on you, okay?"
"Okay Mama."
Baran smiles and heads out, giving the doctors a thumbs up as she checks on everyone else.
'Should be easy enough." Parker concludes. "Trinity's usually sleepy this time of night so its likely she'll just knock out in the next hour or two." Shen agrees and they wave at Trinity before doing their rounds in the ED.
Parker checks on her first after a while and knocks before peeking in. "Hey goofball, you doing okay?" Trinity looked sleepy, but fussy. Tugging at the sheets impatiently.
Trinity grumbles. "I wan 'rawberry milk!' She crosses her arms and whines as she prods around her iv.
Oh god. They were gonna have a cranky Trin if she wasn't asleep yet.
"Okay Trin." Parker sighs. "That's a big ask, but I'll check the hospital fridge if Baran left any." She heads out the room and runs into Shen who was sipping on an energy drink he likely got from the break room.
"Little one's throwing a fit over strawberry milk, was there any in the fridge?"
Shen's eyes go wide as he shakes his head. "We're fuckeddd. What's the closest convenience store." He opens his phone, scrolling for the nearest gas station.
"Wha-? There's no way we're running across town for strawberry milk." Ellis looks outside towards the ambulance bay. It was around 10 now, and the longer Trin stayed awake, the sooner the tantrum. She turns and makes eye contact with Trinity who was pouting and holding up a drawing of a strawberry.
Shen tilts his head. "Do you wanna deal with Baran lecturing us if she throws a tantrum? Remember the time Robby ate a granola bar near her?"
Parker shudders. They never saw that granola bar again. She was pretty sure Baran banned anything almond related within a 5 mile radius.
"Fine Fine." They both open their phones to scroll through only to find traffic jam after traffic jam.
"Ok, I'll run upstairs to the surgery fridge. Maybe Yolanda has extras?" Shen asks hopefully. Parker barely gets a nod in before he sprints towards the elevator.
Hope that works.
She walks back to Trinity's room and smiles. "Hey, uh, Trin, hypothetically if there wasn't any strawberry milk would you want a replacement or..."
"NO!"
Trinity holds up her paper with the scribbled strawberry angrily. She was getting sleepier, but there wasn't any rest until she had her strawberry milk.
She closes the door with her eyes wide. Shen was right. We're fucked. She slinks back towards the trauma bays where Baran was helping to work on one and ducks before waiting by the elevators.
Shen comes out out of breath and looking slightly terrified. "So no strawberry milk. And also Walsh found out we had to watch Trinity and made me swear we'd keep a close eye or she'd cut our heads off." He shudders. "I don't think she was kidding."
"Okay last shot." Parker says, taking her phone back out. "We could doordash some and rush it before Baran finds out and kills us!"
"That's a stupid plan, you know the medics won't let us doordash to the ambulance bay unless they got something out of it."
"Well I'm trying to-"
"Why are you two in the corner whispering?"
Both their heads snap over to Vivi standing with a questioning look. Shen and Parker quietly side eye each other before beckoning her closer. "Trinity wants strawberry milk and we have no idea where to get it. Usually there's a stash in the corner but there's nothing and we're fucked."
Vivi smirks. "Why don't you guys just ask Dr. Al-Hashimi? She literally has everything for Trinity. Or to like calm her down, you know she knocks out after a lullaby."
The two groan. It was better than nothing but they should head over and tell the little the bad news.
It was worth a shot, but they tried their best. They get to the room and knock before opening the door.
"Hey, Trin, we're sorry but-"
Inside they see her happily sipping on a bottle while Baran talks to her. "Let me guess, strawberry milk?"
"Guys I literally have a stash, why didn't you ask me?" Parker and Ellis look at eachother and snort.
Trinity finishes the bottle and yawns as Baran smiles and rubs her back so she could get to sleep. She turns off the lights and closes the curtain as she heads out.
"You guys should've told me instead of going on a wild goose chase for strawberry milk you know. But in case it happens again.." She smiles.
"Kiara's got all of Trinity's favorite drinks, big and little, in a minifridge fully stocked." She pats both their shoulders and winks. "But I appreciate the effort." She laughs before walking off.
They watch her leave and Shen smiles at Parker. "Ready for more patients?"
"Are you addicted to caffeine?"
'Wha-?"
"Yes. Shen. The answer is ye- good lord we gotta get you better at these."

summary: Baran and Yolanda take the kids out to give Trinity a self-care day.
Baran takes Fatima out the carseat while Yolanda takes Kynthia out the other.
"I want Mama!"
Fatima squirms in Baran's arms as she carries her out. "I know azizam, but she needs some quiet time."
"Quiet time?? Wha that?" Baran just smiles and pecks her cheek before setting her down, careful to make sure she stayed by her side as she closes the door. "It means we have a fun day ahead of us!"
"Yoli, you ready?"
"In-a-ow! second!" Baran holds Fatima's hand and walks to the other side of the car where she sees Yolanda struggling greatly to get Kynthia out the car seat.
"NO! NO!" The two year old squirms every time Yolanda tries to unbuckle her. "WANT SONG!"
They had listened to the entire Moana soundtrack twice on the way there. Fatima had slept through it, but they had the displeasure of hearing it the whole way to the mall.
"Thia we've been over this, you can't just listen to Moana all day."
Yolanda finally gets the toddler out the seat and clips a ladybug backpack with a child leash attached to the back.
"I still don't approve of the backpack leash you know." Baran says, hiding a smirk. They had to buy one after Kynthia tried running off during multiple outings, partially the reason Trinity needed a break at all.
Yolanda lets Kynthia drag her off while Baran locks the car up. "Trust me B, we just have to keep her from running into traffic again."
They start walking towards the outdoor shopping center, Baran had luckily got sunscreen on everyone so she wouldn't have to deal with fussy toddlers. "Mamân! Mamân!"
Baran snaps out of her thoughts and looks down at her daughter who was eagerly tugging on her dress. "Claire's!" Her eyes go over to the store a few feet away and smiles. "Let me guess, more earrings?"
"Uh-huh!"
Baran kisses Fatima's forehead and nods her head over. "Alright, then we should-" She's about to start walking when Yolanda stumbles backward due to Kynthia deciding to sit down in protest.
"Thia do you not want to go?"
"NO! Want Pretzels!"
Yolanda groans and looks down at her toddler in slight amusement.
"We can split up." Baran starts. "I can get some shopping done with Fatima and you can get Thia's energy out."
Yolanda hates the idea but she knew she was right. Yolanda was the only one who can fully catch up with the toddler if she was to run off. Her pilates and yoga routine both helped her have amazing stamina making it easier to keep up with two kids.
Besides, how hard can dealing with Kynthia be?
"Fine, meet back here at 1?"
Baran nods and starts leading Fatima towards Claire's. "By the way she's already running off."
"Wait wha-"
Yolanda's head shoots down where she sees the ladybug backpack on the floor with no toddler in sight. "Fuuuu- take the bag I'll get her."
"Have fun!" Baran waves as Yolanda shoots after Kynthia who had run about 20 feet away towards a Miniso.
"Gotcha!" Yolanda snatches her up. "What are you doing we need pretzels!"
"Pretzell!!!"
Yolanda carries her all the way to the pretzel stand. This is gonna be way harder without the child leash. Kynthia tried to jump out 3 seperate times, she almost regrets not bringing the stroller.
Yolanda buys two pretzels and breaks it into pieces before handing it to the toddler. "Alright eat up hun." She happily munches on it as they sit down at the fountain for a break.
The sun was especially hot today. Summers in Pittsburgh were no joke. They went to the pool on their day off last week but the girls got bored of it easily. Yolanda pats Thia's head as she sits on her lap.
Their jobs were so demanding. The girls were usually in a day camp during the week but weekends usually meant one of them had to be off and it usually ended up being Trinity or Baran.
Probably the reason Thia's been acting out. She just wants everyone together.
"Mamí?" Thia finishes her pretzel and reaches up for a napkin. "Yeah hun?
"Where's Mama?"
Yolanda ruffles her hair. "You heard your Mamân explain it to your sister. She just needed a day."
"Why?"
"Well, little girls like you can be a lot to handle. You know how you like to play alone sometimes without your sister?"
"Uh-huh."
"Your mama's the same way. She's been extra tired lately so we're outside to give her space."
Kynthia scrunches her eyebrows before nodding. "Gift?"
Yolanda tilts her head. "You wanna get her something?"
"Mmhmm! How about toy!"
Yolanda laughs and collects their trash before helping her girl up. "I think I have a better idea."
‧₊˚♪🌺 𝄞₊˚⊹
At 1 they meet up with the other two. They had big Claire's and Hot Topic bags. "Someone wanted a plushie." Baran smiles. "What about you two?"
"Got some for Mama!" Thia squeals. "Mamí show!"
Yolanda shakes her head fondly and opens the bag. "Thought Trin would like a necklace. Thia picked it. Pandora was having a Moana collection and of course-"
She opens the box to a small gold hibiscus necklace with a matching ring.
"Oh that's perfect, she'll love it." Baran looks down at the two girls leaning against their legs getting sleepy. "Now let's get home before our girls fall asleep."
The car ride was peaceful, but they somehow missed the constant disney music so they played an instrumental version the ride home.
When they park they turn around and the toddlers had fallen asleep. Yolanda snaps a picture before they get out to unpack.
"We're home!"
Trinity looks up from the couch and smiles. "Are those my girls?"
Fatima and Thia's eyes snap open instantly and wait to be put down before rushing over, both rambling about the day. "Mamí show her the gift!!"
"Oh!" Yolanda hands the Pandora bag over and Trinity curiously opens it and gasps. "Aww, it's beautiful! Guessing this was you Kynthia?"
"Uh-huh!"
Trinity looks down at her and kisses her forehead. "Thanks hun, I adore it."
Thia squeals and gives her a hug.
"Now, your Uncle Dennis is bringing over some pizza so why don't you guys get cleaned up?"
"YAAAYYYY!" The two girls run to the kitchen and use the stepstool to wash their hands in the sink.
Trinity smiles and stands up to wrap Baran and Yolanda into a hug. "Thank you so much. I got a nap in, finished my book, and watched two movies. I needed today so bad."
They both smile and hug her back. "Don't sweat it hun, we always got you."
what if little! trinity had an accident in the middle of the night?
"your string of lights are still bright to me." .✦ ݁˖🧸⊹ ࣪ ˖ ໒꒱🌙
Trinity has an accident in the middle of the night and panics, but Baran and Yolanda give her the reassurance she needs to have a restful evening.
"Ow-ow! what-"
Baran feels a body climb over her in the darkness and the figure whines and darts to the bathroom.
"What was-"
She turns and sees the spot where Trinity sleeps empty and in its place,
She pats the bed and feels a damp spot.
Oh.
Yolanda was on the other side still dozing and Baran leans over to nudge her. The other woman was such a deep sleeper. "Yoli. Wake up."
"Mm?" Yolanda peeks open her sleep mask and squints. "B it's the middle of nigh-" She then realizes she doesn't have to sit up to talk to Baran.
"Where's Trin?"
She then sees the damp spot. "Ah."
They both start getting up from bed to plan what to do next. Yolanda puts a hand on her face and glances towards the bathroom where she could hear quiet sobbing. "Um. Okay. How about I try and coax her out, and-"
"I'll get the sheets washed, grab a pullup and snacks and meet you back here?" Baran finishes. They had only done this once before but they seemed to have a makeshift schedule for nights like these.
She gets the sheets off the bed and throws them in the washer along with the pillowcases and blankets.
Baran heads downstairs to grab the essentials. They had pullups stocked but Trinity hated to wear them. But after a particularly bad nightmare it'd sometimes be one of the only things that helped.
She opens the fridge to grab some milk to make hot chocolate. That usually put Trin to bed instantly, but they had to wake up in a few hours for their shifts so it's a possibility they'd just stay up.
As the milk heats up she grabs a few of Trinity's favorite calico critters from under the tv. If they ended up staying up, Trinity would probably appreciate the playtime.
The microwave beeps and she stirs the hot cocoa mix in, heading up the stairs with calicos in her robe pocket and a pullup tucked under her arm.
When she gets to the bedroom Yolanda was sitting outside the bathroom door trying her best to get Trinity to unlock the door.
"Baby, you think you can let Mamí and Mama in to help you?"
"No! 'mbarrasing."
Yolanda sighs and leans her head back against the door. "I know it's uncomfy but we gotta get you into clean clothes."
Baran puts the cup down and walks over. 'Let me try' she mouths to Yoli. "Hey, hun, I have your favorite critters. We can have a bit of fun before we get back to bed. You know there's an early morning waiting for us."
Trinity whines quietly and opens the door enough to peer her eyes out. "Won't laugh?"
"Of course not my love."
Trinity nods and leaves the door cracked as Baran and Yolanda step in. Baran carefully hands her a pullup. "I know you don't like them much, but just in case?"
Trinity whines but nods as the two women help her get dressed into a different pajama set. After they guide her to the guest room to get tucked in.
It was around 3, so they'd be able to get another few hours of sleep before they had to get up for work.
They cuddle around her. "Alright got your bear, your paci, anything else?"
Sing. Trinity signs, her head on Baran's chest right over her heart.
"You and your lullabies azizam."
Baran hums a quiet tune to help Trinity go back to sleep and a few minutes later she's out like a light.
Yolanda rubs circles on her back with a small smile.
