“You remember the last time we went to the beach all together?” The answer is silence, but Joonmyun remembers. His eyebrows are furrowed as he looks out at the ocean. “It was so much colder there. Middle of winter.” But he still went into the water. And caught a cold. Jongin is usually one of Joonmyun’s problem children, accidentally breaking microphones or forgetting to zip his pants after a quick change. But he’s unusually perceptive. The rush of the tide sweeping over their legs brings back too many memories. “Sorry, hyung. You can say some more of your dumb dad jokes and I promise to laugh…” Though he’s pretending to still look out at the sea, Jongin’s eyes keep glancing over. “It’s okay. It’s nice to remember them when we’re here. They would have liked playing in the water with everyone. But I have you and all the other boys here. And we’ll see Xing again when we go home.” Jongin’s hand slides through the sand to clasp Joonmyun’s for a moment as they both watch the waves further out. The water rushes out again, dragging away sand and little shells, though the memories remain, their edges softened like sea glass. Not as bright and shining as they used to be, but they don’t hurt to remember as much as they used to.
