Ash is often cited as one of the most memorable horror heroes of all time, standing next to Ellen Ripley and Laurie Strode as an outstanding final survivor, and as a rare example of that sole living character being male.

Bruce’s public relationship with the character of Ash has always been somewhat playful; he signs his name Bruce “Don’t call me Ash” Campbell in the liner notes of the Boomstick edition of the Army of Darkness DVD and on the back cover copy of his autobiography, “If Chins Could Kill”; in many q&as, he’s joked about Ash’s cowardice and knack for getting innocents killed.  The fact that people continue to confuse him with his fictional doppelganger formed the basis of his raucous love letter to his fans, “My Name Is Bruce.”
