Noticed that this past week almost all the press has been on Niall and Harry together. For one, the interview for Today. But also, almost all the articles I've seen have focused exclusively on those two in headlines/subject matter. You think its possible that they are putting their names together to still grab the attention of those who only know of Harry and kind of introducing them to Niall that way? Like as a means of transitioning.
Yeah, I think that's exactly what they're doing. I actually talked about that a bit a couple days ago with the Australian interview they did about the new single.
You were talking earlier about Liam/Harry as frontmen during X Factor. Do you really think they were doing it that early? I feel like it was just all of them until later tbh
It definitely wasn't all of them.
So do you think more people will realize what Harry's trying to say with this latest instagram? (the one with the two men) It seems pretty obvious.
Denial is a very strong impulse, especially when you're dealing with a lot of young people who haven't yet figured out just how much the world really lies to them. Cognitive dissonance and all that.
I think a lot of people aren't going to realise or accept what Harry's trying to say until he actually blatantly says it. It's not necessarily that they're homophobic or hate the idea of a male celebrity being gay. It's that they can't accept that they've been lied to for three odd years by someone who they idolise.
Apparently there was a lot of Eleanor speculation going on yesterday? I was on mobile all day, so I missed most of it, but I've got loads of anons about it. I don't really have time to reply to all of them, but if people want to see what my anons are saying about it, I could put them all in a post?

Blockâem. Thereâs actually only 7-10 people responsible for ALLLL those messages.
Yeah I think I'm going to have to. They're not getting the hint. Also I seem to have woken up in a bit of a ranty mood, because I had a bit too much fun writing that. Haha

spot the difference
Fandom: *speculates about Harry and Louis interactions*
1DHQ: You continue to ruin their friendship with your gay rumors!
Fandom: *speculates about Niall and Julian getting cozy in a vine video*
Niall: LOL
Julian: *Matthew McConaughey voice* alright, alright, alright
Every given moment, Harry is with Jeff. Seriously I don't understand how this doesn't faze you (all of you so-called believers) at all. Louis was seen on the plain to Vegas even if there are no pics of him there. I really don't understand why the mere idea that H could be with Jeff is so monstrous to you.
Ohhhhhh mmmmyyyyyy goddddddddddddddd
Does everyone see this? Do you see it? Do you?!?! This person should be working in politics if theyâre this good at twisting facts and throwing out overly aggressive buzzwords.
Harry has lunch with his (by all accounts, completely straight) friend and a third person on a day off and heâs suddenly âwith Jeff every given moment.â Louisâ not seen for days so heâs suddenly clearly in Las Vegas even though this anon openly admits that no one has actually seen him there. This anon doesnât understand how it doesnât faze me that Harry had lunch with his friend and a third person who was at the table with them! And because I donât give any weight to the fully unsubstantiated rumours about Harry and his friend (whose father just so happens to be Irving Azoff, the man who is likely positioning himself to take over the management of the band that Harryâs in), because I donât believe that theyâre dating, then I think the âmere ideaâ of them being together is monstrous! MONSTROUS!!!
One more time, read that again. MONSTROUS. Because I think that the ideas that are shoved into my inbox (completely unsolicited and unwanted) on a daily basis are unfounded and ridiculous, because Iâve never once in my life heard anything that even remotely backs up these peopleâs claims and I therefore choose to believe theyâre just pairing Harry off with whichever mid-twenties semi attractive man that he happens to be sitting next to, because they donât seem to have any proof whatsoever that these two are anything other than friends, because apparently getting lunch together or instagramming photos of each other suddenly equals a relationship, because these people are saying itâs obvious that theyâre dating despite the fact that they literally know so little about Jeff that theyâve never even heard him speak and despite the fact that these people know nothing about the way he and Harry behave together beyond what theyâve seen in completely platonic-looking still photographs, because I donât believe that Harry is dating Jeff Azoff, then I obviously think that the mere idea of them being together is monstrous.
Wow. And now that Iâve made myself abundantly clear how I feel about Hazoff, can you people please stop sending me messages like this ten times a day? Itâs obviously started to get on my nerves. I donât come to your blog and try to convince you of anything.
Ship what you want to ship. I literally do not give one single shit if you want to believe that Harryâs dating Jeff Azoff or Nick Grimshaw or Cara Delevingne or the fucking sock under his bed and his own right hand. I donât care. I wonât try to convince you otherwise. Thatâs your prerogative. But please, please stop coming to my blog to try and convince me with aggressive messages like this or Iâm just going to start blocking the whole lot of you. Thanks.

Do you think it's possible they're starting to phase Eleanor out? I know she was just at Niall's 'birthday' with Louis, but they clearly looked miserable together and now we have her hanging out with friends in London and going to LFW instead of going to the Rose Bowls shows, which were shows where tons of family members showed up, and Sophia as well. I know adult couples spend time apart all the time, but normally when they're apart we don't hear anything from Eleanor like we have recently.
I actually have a thought about that, but I was a bit hesitant to say it at first, because I don't want people to get their hopes up too much? This is 100% just me speculating, but the fact that her friends insinuated that she'd be in LA, then the tweets were deleted, then it was made known through social media that she was still here in London... I'm wondering if they're starting to seed a break up or "relationship problems" or something. Like she was planning on going, then something went wrong and she wound up staying home instead of going? Especially in light of them looking so blatantly miserable last time they were seen together. I don't know. Just a thought I had about the whole thing.
Completely agree with what you said about the frontman not happening completely naturally. Harry being pushed towards being the frontman started on the x-factor. His name was dropped much more than the other boys' and I also believe that's where his womanizer image started when they did that whole segment where they made him have a "romantic" dinner with another contestant and give her a rose, and you could see in his face that it was an awkward moment and not his idea.
I actually think they may have switched strategies partway through X Factor. From what I remember watching them on the show and from some of their early videos that I've watched recently, Liam was their original frontman. All the press surrounding them at the start was LIAM PAYNE and the rest were almost an afterthought. But then again by the time their auditions aired (ie by the time the episodes were being cut and edited), they already knew One Direction would be a band. And Harry and Liam were the only two really spotlighted in those. So maybe they always knew it would eventually be Harry but originally pushed Liam because he was already a somewhat recognisable face. "Returning contestant succeeds on their second try" is a /really/ common X Factor trope, and it got the band attention at the beginning with Liam as the face.
i've seen people talking about how their team use their accounts to promote things, and most of them use it as a negative point of their managemente and i don't get it. famous people (sometimes, even the not so famous ones) promote things on twitter, it's part of their job, isn't it? what's your opinion on it? do you think we should imply something else on 1D's situation or we're just paranoid?
As far as the purely promotional tweets go (Celebrity Big Brother, X Factor, etc), I donât understand why people have any problem with it beyond the fact that they're maybe a bit annoying. Yes, it is part of their jobs. Itâs standard. Thatâs what celebrity Twitter accounts are for. Theyâre marketing tools, whether that means marketing themselves or marketing sponsorsâ products.
I also donât understand why people say they do no music promo? Theyâve done a MASSIVE amount of music promo over the last week or so. Almost an overwhelming amount. But there was that post going around yesterday about how âthey pushed the fragrance so hard and now crickets on the music!!!â Which⌠No, theyâre pushing the music pretty damn hard. Theyâre just doing a much better job of it than they did with the fragrance. Would you rather they did corny countdown videos and âBIG ANNOUNCEMENT 3 DAYS TO GO!!!â and continued to cater to the very young market? No, this is what well done promotion looks like. They shouldnât be catering to tweens with the promo for their music at this stage, and itâs a really good thing that theyâre not.
The one thing I DO understand people taking issue with, though, is the narrative thatâs often pushed through their tweets and the fact that they so strongly deny publicist involvement. The way theyâve pushed things in the past hasnât been great (âLarry is the biggest load of bullshit Iâve ever heard!â in particular⌠No matter WHAT you believe the nature of Harry and Louisâ relationship to be, that was unnecessarily aggressive).
And the fact that they try to say theyâre personally the only ones with access to their accounts? PLEASE. Thatâs just insulting to think people would be thick enough to believe that. Literally every significant company in the world has a social media team, even ones with only a few thousand Twitter followers. And in particular, every /celebrity/ in the world has a social media team. Youâre trying to tell me that the one exception to that rule, the one exception to the completely standard industry practise of publicity-managed Twitter accounts is the biggest band on the planet? Really? 109 MILLION combined Twitter followers, and you expect people to believe that theyâre in control of their own accounts? Thatâs absolutely absurd. OF COURSE theyâre not in control of their own Twitter accounts.
Have you considered what if they're not making Niall the front man or have you decided you're correct? The problem is you'll end up twisting everything that happens to fit your Niall the frontman narrative. It's definitely a consideration but some things make me think they're not really pushing anyone too much but rather concerning themselves with who fills which need best as they come along. Frontman tends to be something that happens on its own in a band like this.
Oh, Iâm totally aware that it might not be the case. Iâm just interpreting the things that I see as I see them happening. People are 100% free to disagree with me (and I know some people do), and thatâs fine. Itâs just what I personally see happening by looking at the press trends, especially the recent ones.
I do want to make myself clear about the whole Niall thing, though, because I think my ideas may have gotten a bit twisted by a few people. I donât think theyâre trying to appeal to an exclusively âmacho straight beer drinking mid-20s he-manâ or anything. Thatâs not what Iâm saying at all. I just think that, to me, it makes sense why they would choose Niall at this stage in the game. He has the widest general appeal, because there arenât any preconceived ideas that come along with him, like the womaniser image or the bad boy thing. They can make him into anyone they want, or they can leave him as he is but put a spotlight on him.
Zayn doesnât seem to particularly want the spotlight, a few people have pointed out that Liam doesnât have a great history when it comes to handling the sort of tabloid gossip he might be levelled with if he were suddenly the face of the band, and, as Iâve said before, I think one of the big reasons they would be switching frontmen would be to draw focus from Harryâs relationship, which is why I think Louis would be an unlikely candidate.
One thing I do want to say, though, is that I really disagree that the frontman always happens naturally. It looks natural to most people, but thatâs because they MAKE it look natural. These things are planned out months in advance and press strategies are executed very carefully in order to keep people from noticing that theyâre being swayed in one way or another. There is some amount of the personâs own personality that goes into the choice, though, and I think Harryâs charisma and charm made him the most obvious choice for them to push for a long time.
But I also think heâs grown tired of the attention, not least because it brings loads of unwanted speculation about his love life, and I think he seems ready for the spotlight to shift off of him for a while. The kid needs a bit of a break, and if making Niall (or anyone else!) into the frontman can give him that, then maybe thatâs what theyâre going to do.
This seems to be the full press release-hadn't seen it posted.
ONE DIRECTION TO RELEASE âSTEAL MY GIRLâ THE LEAD SINGLE FROM THE UPCOMING ALBUM, FOUR, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 29
BAND SET TO DEBUT SONGS FROM FOUR LIVE ON NBCâs TODAY SHOW MONDAY NOVEMBER 17
(NEW YORK, NY; COLUMBIA RECORDS; SEPTEMBER 14, 2014) âGlobe conquering pop band One Direction announce the September 29 release of âSteal My Girlâ, the lead single from their highly anticipated new album FOUR.
Over cascading stadium piano chords, âSteal My Girlâ shows the band continuing to expand their influences and song-writing ability while retaining their widescreen pop sound. âSteal My Girlâ is written by Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne with Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan â the collaborative team behind last yearâs massive single âBest Song Everâ â and is produced by Bunetta, Ryan and Paro Westerlund.
âFireproof,â the first look into the new album FOUR, was gifted to fans for a period of 24 hours via the bands official website www.onedirectionmusic.com. âFireproofâ became the most downloaded free track ever in the 24 hours it was available, with over 1.1 million downloads. FOUR immediately shot to number one around the world in over 65 countries on the day it was made available for pre-order â comfortably beating third album MIDNIGHT MEMORIES, which was number one in 39 countries and went on to become the top selling album of 2013 worldwide.
One Direction will celebrate the release of FOUR on NBCâs TODAY show with a special performance live from Universal Orlando Resort. Kicking off their album release week, the band will join the TODAY show anchor team for the Orlando broadcast on Monday, November 17. One Direction made their first national television appearance on TODAY more than two years ago, and they drew record-breaking crowds with their Rockefeller Plaza concert last summer.
With a staggering 94 number ones and over 46 million records sold, in just four short years, One Direction have gone from energetic pop upstarts to international superstars. As the bandâs song writing becomes more personal with each record, FOUR is set to be their most stunning yet. The album follows the global success of their huge sell out WHERE WE ARE stadium tour and the 3D film documentary THIS IS US. Fans will have the opportunity to relive this summersâ tour with the release of their second film WHERE WE ARE: THE CONCERT FILM, in theaters for one weekend only October 11th and 12th and released to DVD on December 2. Add all this to their 3 billion YouTube views, 109 million combined Twitter followers and 33 million Facebook fans and itâs clear that Liam, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn genuinely are a worldwide phenomenon.
FOUR will be released globally on November 17, 2014 via Syco/Columbia Records. Fans can receive âSteal My Girlâ instantly on September 29 if they preorder the deluxe album on iTunes: smarturl.it/1DFouriTdlx.

If they keep putting Harry with Niall though in the interviews , doesn't it make it harder to push Niall as the new frontman, since Harry sitting next to him reminds the viewer that Harry is/has been the frontman?
Having Harry sit in on an interview like that, where itâs basically just Niall talking, makes more people watch it and makes sure that articles will be written about it, because at this point, Harry's still mostly the frontman. This is still fairly early days in whatever shift theyâre making, so theyâre not going to start doing loads of solo Niall interviews. Itâs too soon. But if you get an interview like that, where itâs mostly just Niall talking, thatâs going to plant itself subconsciously in the back of your mind. Over time, people will start to think of Niall as the face of the band, even if heâs sitting right next to Harry.

Weird. I have noticed them doing a lot of One Direction articles recently, but I don't think they've singled out any members other than Niall.
