i don't really want leviticus 2, i think as a statement it works really well ending where it did however i do want a 2 hour special where some guy on the writing team sits down and explains the inner workings of the universe such as how the rituals work and also any little hidden bits of symbolism they hid in the movie that they don't think anyone's caught yet

I love bully Ryan Whelan don’t Kirk me. I know he’s so mean in the original and I agree it shouldn’t have made the cut for the sake of the movie being digestible and sweet which is something the queer community needs right now but as a separation, it adds so much complexity to the way he acts. Not to mention, it’s realistic. A teen Australian boy trying to mask his personality and queerness would act like that, I’ve witnessed teens that act exactly like him. Using slurs, finding cruelty funny, bragging about sexual encounters with women are all things teen boys in a semi-rural area unfortunately do and something Ryan would pick up and integrate into the version of himself he creates for protection. When interacting with Naim he’s harsh and pushes him as an attempt to help him, he see’s Naim, knows he’ll be a target, and shows him what he has to do to not be one. He’s teaching him to mask it like Ryan had to. But yk at the same time I get the feeling he’s trying to suss out Naim by seeing how he reacts to certain things he says. By being so vulgar and blatant he can get a sense of Naim’s own feelings.
I would also like to mention that, yeah Naim is getting teased to shit and he is horribly bullied in other deleted scenes, but in the scene with Ryan he’s mocking him back and acting all sarcastic. Maybe it’s a testament to Naim’s reaction to intimidation always being defense, bite back, tackle someone to the ground even though you’re weaker. But if he hated Ryan so much at that point then why’d happily agree to hangout with him.
I also just think it’s interesting how drastically Ryan’s mask drops around Naim if we include the deleted scenes, and that it stays down once he’s outed to protect Naim and keep him away, and the only time it goes back up is when he finds out Naim outed him. I want all the deleted scenes released so bad release them release them.

To the people who are writing Ryanaim calling each other "sweetheart" or "dear" or honestly even "babe": have you ever spoken to a teenage boy before. Two of my friends in high school dated for years and they called each other almost exclusively dude. I feel like there's a deeper problem with this within the characterization of the two (i.e. one of them always needing to be the 'soft one' in any given situation. Even if it switches off depending on the scenario it still seems like we're enforcing heterosexual norms) but I can't find the words to explain my thoughts on that right now. My main point is neither of them is emotionally intelligent to write poetry about the other and the only pet name Naim calls Ryan is "cunt".

Me when I see Naim being characterized as a crybaby and overly sensitive I know they didn't watch the same movie as me because that's the opposite of his character
I see this so much in fanfic and it pisses me off. No Naim is not the sensitive weak one that Ryan is all alpha and protective with. They’re BOTH scared and weak because they’re teenagers in an environment that isolates and harms them?.. not to mention Naim is the one arguing with everyone the whole time, trying to make the people around him understand what’s going on, the same guy who slams the metal slider shut on the entities face and tackles Ryan to the ground multiple times. You can’t boil either of them down to one characterisation, because they’re both complex multifaceted characters who respond to different situations in unique ways. And this is because, what, Ryan is stronger than Naim and knows how to defend himself? Because Naim cries out of frustration because no one will listen to him and gets scared when he’s about to get beat up by a gang for being queer? Gtfooo 😭😭 free my boys
