Jaelyn Cogburn for Texas Monthly. I had the privilege to spend time photographing the Cogburn family while working on the Texas Monthly story, Faith, Friendship, and Tragedy at Santa Fe High. Sabika Sheikh was an exchange student living with the Cogburns. She was killed in the school shooting that occurred on May 18, 2018. The anniversary story recounts Sabika’s life and amazing friendship with Jaelyn. Heartbreaking but well worth your time.

A rose is a rose is a rose. While working with the company NeoSensory, I made this photo ( a single exposure) exploring the perceptual realness of experience mediated through technology. Where the experience of a flower is real despite its source. NeoSensory is a company creating transformative experiences through technology. These prototypical “ganglia” send data streams to the brain via the sense of touch.

Hipolito (Poli) Acosta, author, officer, secret agent. My latest portrait for Texas Monthly. As one of the most highly decorated agents in U.S. Customs and Border Protection history, Poli has had himself smuggled across the border, infiltrated crime rings and brought down drug cartels. His stories are the subject of three books with a movie and tv series in the works. I shot this photo in a wooded park near his home in Kingwood, TX.
