KARL HAS NEVER MINDED THE LYCANS. They have always been lurking around the village, and as a child Karl has   ( perhaps quite foolishly )   attempted to befriend them. He & the failed experiments have a mutual respect for one-another, which he is hoping can be used to his advantage as he approaches the stronghold.

Matilda walks beside him, almost as tall as him & just as imposing. The infected dire wolf and Karl are not inseparable: Karl’s strong belief in freedom means he has never truly considered her his pet, & it’s more likely that, instead of being with Karl, the wolf is stalking the woods and the outskirts of the village. Surviving in her own way, unrestricted by anyone’s claim of ownership. But she’s here now, because Karl isn’t about to enter a building full of lycans without any kind of back up.

He’s only seen the Lycan Queen once or twice and never outside of work. By all accounts this is an unusual visit, and Karl has rehearsed multiple conversations in preparation. Step one is to approach with civility.

AFTER ESCAPING THE VILLAGE,   Karl had thrown a dart at a map & ran to wherever it had landed. No real plan, no preparation ---- just a desire to get as far away from his old life as possible, which had seemed entirely sensible at the time but now, in a country where he can’t speak the language & has absolutely no fucking clue about, he’s beginning to regret his impulsivity. Still, despite his struggles, he’d caught wind of a very specific morgue in Yamagata that could offer him some sanctuary. And here he is, on its doorstep, feeling like a fucking idiot but trying very hard to maintain his unbothered facade.

BOLD TAKE:   Karl fucking hates it here. He’s spent so much of his life controlled by Miranda that to end up here, free from her cult yet controlled by something else entirely is, to be perfectly fucking frank: a goddamn nightmare. Karl, despite his proclivities towards digging up corpses & experimenting horribly on them, isn’t all that fond of killing   ( or to be more accurate, he’s not fond of doing it with his own hands ).

Within the Entities realm he has found companionship in very few people. He’s still new here, and hasn’t yet accepted the fact that he’s stuck forever. As such, forming lasting friendships with fellow killers hasn’t been at the top of his priorities.     & yet here he is, sat on the hood of one of the many cars in Autohaven Wreckers and very irresponsibly offering Suzie one of his expensive cigars.

SOME META ABOUT POST-VILLAGE KARL   ------   I think at the end of the day, despite all of the weird mold stuff & typical RE stuff, Karl is someone who was groomed from childhood to be part of a cult and I really, really want to focus on his recovery from that. But I think to focus on how he recovers & copes, I need to outline what he plans to do after leaving.

Karl has been in the village his whole life & has very limited knowledge of the outside world. He’s doesn’t know shit fuck about anything and I think the last thing he’d do is approach any kind of authority figure for help. So provided he is alone   ( Chris nor Ethan have teamed up with him / stuck with him after defeating Miranda )   I think he’ll be living off the grid for a while. The first thing is he’d get as far away from the village as humanly possible, then like. Find somewhere to squat while he processes what happened & how drastically different things are now. I picture him in some old abandoned factory surrounded by a ton of wilderness, making very cautious allies of Fellow Squatters as he adapts.

I think, eventually, he ventures into more populated areas and starts to make actual friends. It would be a slow process, but Karl didn’t leave Miranda just so he could do the exact same shit   ( hiding away in his factory & avoiding people ). So yeah, perhaps a few months after leaving he ends up in a town & finds a job as a mechanic somewhere people don’t ask too many questions. Makes enough money to get by, builds up enough friends that he’s not entirely alone. Eventually, he would find someone to open up to, & then really start recovery. Talking to authorities, entering modern society, adapting to modern technology. Finding somewhere to live. Building a life.

I really hate the idea of Karl being a villain forever. I think he deserves the chance to redeem himself & recover from his past abuse, & I think with a lot of time and work he could really just... be normal. He deserves that.

WHAT COLOUR IS YOUR SOULMARK ?

 the  color  you  fit  most  is  indigo.

Often mistaken for having a purple or blue glow, those who have indigo soulcolors are serious, confident, and strong willed. They know what they want to achieve and set out to do so. They are often introverted and seek balance, setting a strong moral code for themselves and others.

This type admires respect over adoration. They are often social advocates for those who need it and believe peace can only be achieved when everyone is working together, not just a powerful select few. This makes them powerful enemies but a powerful group of close friends, as their charismatic personality to do what’s right attracts people to them.

Since they are constantly trying to differentiate themselves from blue and violet soulcolors, indigo soulcolors are often less friendly and nurturing on the outside, but on the inside, they’re tender and supportive. They prefer to keep those who break their outer wall closer than most.

Due to their uncompromising sense of justice, the indigo soulcolor often starts arguments that might not need to be started, uprooting things just because they don’t like them or playing “devil’s advocate” when unnecessary. Despite telling others to get over it, they rarely ever do so and hold grudges for a long period of time.

“Lucky me then, that you just turn up at my door,” he said, keeping one hand petting Tilly while they spoke. He really had a soft spot for her. His eyes trail down to Karl’s arms and yeah he can definitely appreciate them. “That’s a lot to go through just to see you Karl, maybe your community just has some shit drivers.”

“I’ve started working again. Just at home, uh, being around people has been hard,” he admitted, frowning momentarily. “But hey, I get to spend more time with Rose, and you get to come bug me if you want.”

Ethan rolls his eyes at Karl’s comments, because he knows he’s only doing it to get under his skin. He likes how his home looks. It’s functional, has space for Rose, and he had a bed. Not much more that he wanted. “Just remember Karl, I didn’t give a shit about you first. I was a real trendsetter,” he said, grinning.

“What about you charms them Karl? The fact you look like a wolf man, or how you always smell like a mechanic shop? Or are you just charming them with Tilly, because honestly that’s what I would go with,” he said, giving the massive dog a pat on the head. He remembered when they had first met, and Ethan was half convinced that Karl was just going to kill him and feed him to Tilly. Hell, maybe he had been planning that and Ethan had just negotiated in the right way. Didn’t really matter too much now.

“ALL OF THAT,”   he responds smoothly, “and more.” Tilly wags her tail and leans into Ethan’s touch, acting far more like an affectionate golden retriever than the ancient dire wolf she really is. Not for the first time, Karl marvels at how even his pet has been affected by their escape; she’s less suspicious, more trusting. More open. Just like him.
