The Band. Short story made from request
From a request by deerslayer14. This was made for free and if you havr any ideas you want to see me make, dont be afraid to message me!
Anything with a ring-city. The planet for some reason doesn't spin, or maybe it spins in sync to its sun, or it's heat/light sourse is small and orbits around it in sync with its own spinning, anyway one hemisphere is a lava desert, another is an ice desert, with a habitable ring between them, and the whole ring is a continuous city, as politically divided as our Europe
The Band
Two different perspectives that take place on a planet just like ours except for a massive ring city that bisects the planet. The city is built into the planet itself and walls off both sides of the planet from each other. This causes both sides of the planet to be cut off from one another. Another thing to note is that the city did not just appear. It has been there for millions of years and it's origin is unknown. Our characters come into contact with one another and try to connect.
CHARACTERS
Paul (19): A young man who has only known life inside the Band. Although slightly curious, he is unable to express it due to the nature of the Band and the people around him. Slightly unemotional, but not uncaring.
Mika (21): A woman who has lived outside The Band her entire life. Street smart, cynical, but also slightly whimsical. Desperately wants to enter the Band and leave her old life.
MIKA POV
I stared at the ring-squirrel chewing at something while waiting for the sun to rise. Although nearly identical to normal squirrels, the ring squirrel has sharper senses and slightly less body fat due to having to constantly be on alert from predators and their next meal. The squirrel finishes his meal, a small berry or nut, just as sunlight breaks through the gaps in the massive wall blocking the horizon.
Tall as a mountain and wide as the ocean, there seemed to be no end to The Band. No one, not even the elders, knew how it came to be or who created it. We all just acknowledge it as an everlasting presence in our lives and just tell our young to stay as far away as possible. This never seems to sate their curiosity, and every year, we have a new group that runs off to never return.
I sigh as I stretch back and continue to gaze at the sunrise. I don't know why I keep coming back here so much. If the elders ever found out what I was doing, I'd surely be punished. I just know that whenever the sunlight reaches the horizon and cracks past the Band, this chaotic world actually seems to look a little beautiful.
A loud shriek quickly interrupts my thoughts as I curse at noone in particular. I grab my bow and arrows as I get on the ground, trying to blend in with the environment. I thank the Band as the leaves seem just dark enough to fit in with my clothes. The shrieking continues, a shrill yet hollow dying scream of an animal. I guessed it to be some kind of bird, but the yell was unlike any bird I've ever seen. I try to crane my head slightly to see the scene when an impossibly heavy boom echoes through the jungle, ending the scream with a wet crunch. To be continued? Let me know what you think and if you want more!
