Santa Mod

“You don’t want to know now. Trust me.”

“Nooooo. No, I do not.” she said, shivering at the thought.

Mod chuckled and went to help with the tree, feeling better.

Santa Mod

Mod snickered and patted Syd’s head. “You’ll understand when you’re older.”

She gave him a look that kinda said “Oooookay?”, sighed quietly, and rolled her eyes as her head was being patted. 

“You don’t want to know now. Trust me.”

Santa Mod

“I said I could. I didn’t say I would. Sometimes children need a good spanking. Adults too, but for different reasons.”

“That’s still a better answer than what I’ve gotten from Mum and Dad over the years.” The little redhead scoffed at the second part of Mod’s sentence, “Pffff, no, they don’t.”

Mod snickered and patted Syd’s head. “You’ll understand when you’re older.”

Santa Mod

Mod sighed. “I probably could make spank proof trousers, but the problem would be getting them off. There’s also the fact you’d quickly outgrow them.”

Syd’s eyes grew huge in excitement. “I mean, I don’t think I’m gonna need them past the age of…twelve? I don’t think I’m gonna do a whole lot of growin’ in between now and then. As for gettin’ them off? …Weeeell, you’ll figure somethin’ out!” She shook her fists happily and put an arm around Mod’s shoulder in a friendly sort of way. “And here I was thinking you’d say no!” 

“I said I could. I didn’t say I would. Sometimes children need a good spanking. Adults too, but for different reasons.”

Mod looked at the adults. “I’ve made a horrible mistake, haven’t I?”

Mr. Malone smirked. “Weeeell, you did say anything…”

Mod sighed. “I probably could make spank proof trousers, but the problem would be getting them off. There’s also the fact you’d quickly outgrow them.”

He rolled his eyes at the wise crack. “Well, I appreciate it. Let me know if you lot want anything and I’ll see if I can get my hands on it.”

Mod looked at the adults. “I’ve made a horrible mistake, haven’t I?”

Mod raised a brow. “I doubt you have anything of my past to offer.”

“No, she doesn’t mean it like that.” Syd clarified. “God knows I’m not up for going on some sort of archaeological dig lookin’ for dinosaur bones and whatnot.” She snickered at her own crack. Age jokes were always fun. “She means that we got you a little something for Christmas. It’s not much, but…it’s something.”

He rolled his eyes at the wise crack. “Well, I appreciate it. Let me know if you lot want anything and I’ll see if I can get my hands on it.”

“I guess.”

Mod raised a brow. “I doubt you have anything of my past to offer.”

“All of my mementos fit in a single safe. Didn’t ‘ave many material possessions back then.” He shrugged.

“Weeeeeeell…at least you still have ‘em, right? The possessions, I mean?” She shrugged back.

“I guess.”

“If my father hadn’t died in the war, if my family ‘ad more money to spend back then, etcetera.”

The child let out a quiet “Ooooooooooh…”. ‘Sensitive territory. Got it…’ she thought. She shut her mouth and twiddled her thumbs a little awkwardly.

“How so?”

“Oh, just thinking.” He let out a long exhale and plopped down on the couch.

“ ‘Bout what?” The child wandered over to the couch and sat near him.

“Just how different things could ‘ave been, I guess.”

Santa Mod

Mod watched as they discussed the history of their ornaments. Must be nice to have family and mementos and memories. He sighed quietly to himself.

Kat walked over, placed an ornament on the tree, then walked over to Mod. She titled her head. “Are you okay, Uncle Moddy?”

“Oh, just thinking.” He let out a long exhale and plopped down on the couch.
