Quick Life Update
Hey guys! I realize that itās rather indecent of me to have posted absolutely nothing here following the kickstarter campaign so I thought it might be prudent to post whatās been going on and what will be going on down the road.
First of all, I do want to quickly say hi! I got a decent influx of followers from the Kickstarter campaign so Iād just like to thank all of you for your support of GODHOOD, even in itās very very small beginnings!
Now, as weāve all probably established by now, the campaign was not a success.
Before anything, I do want to quickly establish that this is exactly what I was expecting to happen basically from the beginning. That said, you might be wondering why I even did the kickstarter campaign in the first place, which is fair. Really, a more accurate way to put it is that I was 99% sure it was going to fail, and of course, the 1% of me that was secretly hoping for something magical to happen is a little disappointed, but that 1% was what drove me to do this whole thing in the first place. Also, I thought having a kickstarter campaign (success OR failure) would be a great thing to put on a resume, but honestly, so far it hasnāt done much. Still, at least now I have an awesome poster and a plush that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE!
Now, as to the future of this project, therein lies the reason that Iāve been apprehensive to post here. The truth is I am flat broke so for the past few months, Iāve basically been on the job hunt. During that time, in all truth, I havenāt really done anything with GODHOOD because I fear that the stress of looking for work would negatively impact the project were I to keep working on it. In summary, I want to get settled in somewhere before I start working on GODHOOD again (which should hopefully will be sooner than later).
As for what Iām going to be doing with GODHOOD, that all depends on what kind of job I get lined up. If I do get a job as a programmer, itād be pretty hard to program 8 hours a day, then go home and program even more. If I happen to get a job as a game developer then I potentially have non compete clauses that could throw a wrench into plans. Either way, the bottom line here is: Iām not done with GODHOOD yet. Here are a few things I want to look into:
Creating a GODHOOD webcomic! This would be a great opportunity to give my art skills the boost they really need, it would help in growing the gameās audience and it would help me flesh out the story a little more too!
Redoing the grand majority of the gameās art. The gameās animations are already below my current standards and I might still wait a while yet so that I can be an even better artist later on.
Redesigning a lot of the gameās outer mechanics. I like how the rhythm and the explosions work, but the movement and basic attacks need a lot of work and the AI needs to be much more interesting as well.
I have a lot of work ahead me yet and it might be a little while at least before I can get started on it again. For now, I want to thank everyone here for their patience and support, as it means so much to me as a junior game dev! I sincerely thank you for your support and I hope to see you next time!
