the residents who occupied a seven block radius in relation to where persephone lived, awoke the morning of september sixteenth very much in their living spaces, but with one major difference â they were surrounded by flora. beds, lights, shower heads, refrigerators; if a vine could wrap around it, it did.
persephoneâs apartment was a full blown forest and if she stayed there any longer, sheâd probably die from being unable to escape the plethora of nature that was engulfing it.
she made her way outside and proceeded to walk in any given direction as if that would somehow shake the plants that seemed to be following her. she was wrong however, and plants continued to grow behind her as she attempted her escape. she realized that even if she stood in one place, this town would be a full on botanical garden by lunch.
she wasnât sure what was causing the problem and blamed it on her lack of sleep. âcoffee,â she nodded to herself. âi need coffee.â as the words left her mouth, a giant vine reached around her, extending itself toward the nearest person holding coffeee, and snatched it out of the personâs hand.Â
perephone stood there dumbfounded for a moment as the vine held out the other personâs coffee to her. she let out an awkward noise at the person before turning and running back to her apartment, having suddenly realized that being smothered to death by plants would be the least of her problems today.
it was amazing, seeing someone that he actually recognized around here. as he took the spare seat, norman sat diagonally from the girl. âhey.. persephone, right? are you uh, alright with that? you look like youâre staring at the end of the world.â
persephone grinned, still eyeing the paper. âiâm impressed you remembered! most people donât, given how unusual it is.â she tilted her head, as if looking at the paper from a different angle would help.Â
âwell in a manner of speaking, it is the end of the world. iâm trying to find the right words to use in an effort to convince my mother that one semester was not nearly enough time abroad and that i require more. while at the same time, avoiding all of the reasons why, because sheâd hate all of them.â she looked up. âany ideas?â

thereâs a simple issue with seeing ghosts and helping them as you job; you never get a break from their desperate need to be seen. putting on his headphones, he was trying to get away from their issues, walking from his house on the edge to town to the center. norman was so ready to have a little quiet, sit down with a book, before he realised -after ordering- that his favourite cafe was almost full. he notice someone sitting alone at a four person table, and made his way inside - to the edge of the table. âhey, iâm really sorry to bother, i just- is this seat free? everywhere else is taken.â he explain himself as if it wasnât clearly evident.Â
to the untrained eye, it would appear as though persephone was having a staring contest with a blank piece of paper. a contest that she was clearly losing, mostly because paper doesnât have eyes. she released the breath she hadnât realized she was holding and looked up.
âof course,â she grinned, gesturing to the options, before focusing back on the paper, giving it the stink eye.

Finding her ally shouldnât be this hard in such a small town like this.
Currently, Neo was walking down the streets of the New England town as rain gently fell on the ground. Her weapon, currently in itâs umbrella form, was over her head as her stare burned into the strangers around her. Peering at anybody walking by to see if any of them looked the slightest bit familiar to her former partner in crime, Neo huffed in frustration as she took another sip of coffee she grabbed from one of those expensive shops downtown. In her trek, she had bumped against something, caused her to stumble a bit before immediately whipping her head back at the offender. Her brow furrowed, Neo glared at the idiot who just had to throw off her balance a bit. How dare they?!
persephone loved the rain. but unlike others, she enjoyed being out in it. which was probably why others walked past her with looks of distaste hidden under umbrellas while she twirled down the street. she was sure she was going to regret this decision when she went to work later and got reprimanded for her appearance. but right now she didnât care. she danced around like she didnât have a care in the wold. until she rounded the corner and bumped into someone. the wonder quickly turned to concern as she looked at the girl.
âoh my gosh, iâm so sorry. are you okay?âÂ
artemis groaned when she saw persephoneâs hug comingâyou could see it as soon as she rounded the cornerâbut let her friend jump on her anyway. âhow come we have to get touchy-feely every time we do something?â she complained, but she was smiling through it all.
âtry being locked up for twenty years and then tell me you donât want to be hugged all the time.â persephone grinned so artemis would know she was kidding, but still had a hard time letting go. not having to sneak out and not having to worry about when the next time she would see her friend would be were still new concepts to her.Â
âso a movie, outdoors, with other people... that sounds like a dream!â she beamed, slowly releasing her friend.
âi mean, there is a difference between socially acceptable and any real kind of law⌠just because other people say you should, doesnât mean you have to.â norman shrugged, hands in his pockets as he spoke. watching the plants move, normanâs eyes widened, but he tried not to make a deal of it. âuh⌠it- uh⌠iâm really not sure⌠if you just, watch where you walk, barefoot isnât that much of an issue.âÂ
âusually i wouldnât bother, but nearly every single place in this town seems to require shoes,â persephone sighed. âthey should be grateful iâm even wearing clothes.â she rested her chin on her knees. âthis is the only downside of living among the people.â
Persephone was proving herself to be a rather peculiar girl. Her stunt in his office had left him curious about her powers, but it was more than that. She had come to him looking to get a job she had no experience with and quite frankly didnât fit the aesthetic for. And yet, sheâd gotten it. The younger girl had managed to do well enough during practice to impress the dancersâ manager and get the position. What left him feeling most intrigued by her though, was how they had last parted ways. It was a simple handshake, but he had felt something⌠strange. When he touched her hand it was as if heâd stepped through a door. On his side was darkness while hers was light. It was bright and warm and made him want to smile. He only vaguely knew that feeling from his childhood when his mother would console him after his father lashed out. Nowadays it was something he didnât feel very often, being a Medium that attracted death. She felt like the opposite, like life.Â
He knew he wasnât the only one to have felt something. It had been evident by the look on Persephoneâs face and the way she abruptly pulled her hand away from his. But whatever it was she felt, it clearly hadnât been the same as him. The look of distress that momentarily passed over her features before she collected herself and said goodbye was something that had stayed in his mind the rest of the day.
And yet here she was again, clearly not so scared off by whatever she felt to avoid him. âUh, sure, I suppose,â He pushed the untouched cup of coffee forward. âItâs a caffè mocha, but itâs not hot anymore.â What an odd character she was turning out to be. Odd, but pleasant to be around.
when hades pushed the cup toward her she made sure her hands were nowhere even remotely close to his. though she was sure sheâd just been overexerting herself and therefore imagining things last time they saw each other, she didnât want to take the chance that it might happen again. once she could blame on lack of sleep, twice would make her paranoid; and she wasnât quite sure what it was she would be paranoid about since she had absolutely no idea why sheâd felt what she had.
âthanks,â she hummed as she first took in its aesthetic. it was quite a pretty looking drink. whatever that white stuff at the top was looked tasty. she took a full sip to really taste it and held it in her mouth for a minute. she immediately shook her head and let the liquid spill back into the cup like water fountain. her face puckered in distaste. âhow do you drink that? itâs-â she shook her head, ânot good.â
now she really needed a drink to get this taste out. she scanned the room for something that looked less awful. a girl walked by and persephone reached out to tap her. âhi, sorry, what are you drinking? it looks really goodâ she added at the end so it wouldnât seem like she didnât know anything about coffee. the girl looked back and forth between hades and persephone in confusion before telling her it was a frappuccino and quickly scurrying away.
âa frappuccino.... i need one of those. what did you say yours was...â she asked as she turned in her chair to look at the menu again. âmocha? so thatâs a no on mocha. what about caramel? does that sound like a good choice if i hated that,â she grimaced at the drink.

bezazzlesâ:
âyou know,â her eyes donât leave the screen, smile threatening to form as her eyes lock onto the handsome (really, pretty average looking) protagonist âi think ferris is a really good friend. kinda crazy, but heâs got cameronâs best interest. he just doesnât want him to live a granola life. heâs kinda just saving him from how boring things are gonna be later on. i wanna be that friend.â mabel finally turns to face the person, breaking into a grin and holding out her hand to shake âyou looking for an adventure friend? iâm a good ferris.â
persephone had been very strategic when choosing seats. artemis was not a huge fan of people so sheâd made sure artemis was sat somewhere where no one would be able to sit on her right side. then persephone put herself to artemisâ left to be a human buffer.Â
she listened as the girl spoke while simultaneously attempting to stuff her face with popcorn and watch the movie. âiâm kind of my own adventure friend... and hers,â she gestured to artemis who wasnât paying any attention to them. âbut i could always use another friend!â she held out her slightly buttery hand. âiâm persephone.â
artemis had made a habit of seeing persephone at least once a week when her mother had her locked up in the house like a prisoner. it was not at all fair and artemis made sure persephone knew she always had her backâshould she ever decide to unleash the wrath of a young woman on her mother. it could be deadly.
but things had cooled down and now persephone was allowed to actually go places, so artemis had invited her out for a greasy, trashy dinner and some classic arcade fun at pizza planet. she leaned on the wall outside, waiting for her friend, and texted, waiting outside. hurry upppp.
@goddcssâ
persephone turned the corner and was nearly at pizza planet when she received a text. she still hadnât gotten used to cellphone vibrations. sheâd had a secret phone for awhile but kept it on silent mode out of paranoia. she was thoroughly convinced that her mother would hear it, even just the vibration. so the vibrating notification made her jump and let out a squeal. sure that artemis had probably heard that entire ordeal, she shoved her phone back into her dress pocket. she sprinted over to her friend and without warning threw her arms around her neck.
jack always had a fondness for dogs. ever since he was a young boy, a ghostly dog would roam through the manor. so as he cuddled the animal in his arms, it almost felt strange. the warm panting breath, the texture of the fur, it was almost like meeting the dog he once knew, brand new. though his body was technically dead as a vampire, he could almost feel his heart warm. his attention was so held by this dog he hadnât even noticed how close he had been to the woman. âso then you would know his name?â he asked, finally looking to the other humanoid near him. âseeing as i donât formally know the owner, maybe we could share the task of watching,â he paused, recalling the name he used to call his ghost dog, âthis little guy,â he chuckled, scratching the dog in his arms.
âoh, yeah! heâs got one of those names youâd never forget. well, if you know greek and latin that is. if you donât, it isnât as funny.â persephone realized she was going off on a tangent instead of answering the question. âitâs cerberus, which roughly translated means spotted. so essentially, he named his dog spot,â she chuckled. âi wonder if he knows that....â she zoned out momentarily but snapped back almost immediately. âsure, we can do that. iâm persephone by the way. some people call me seph. either is fine.â
Halfway through the afternoon and Hades was in desperate need of a break. Heâd been going through financial plans for his personal clients all morning and had a very long call with one of his business partners about the future of their company. On his way to lunch heâd gotten a few texts from Minthe about needing to talk. He had hoped to wait until they were in together in person before discussing their last fight, but she didnât have much patience.Â
So there he was in the corner of Three Witches Brew with a half eaten bagel and a cup of coffee that had gone cold. Their texts had turned into a phone call - fortunately with little arguing this time. He got the sense that she had been worried he was going to break up with her from her tone and the more gentle language she was using. Not that she had apologized yet, but he hoped she was just waiting until they met again. If she was still mad about his opinion on Thetis and his âhigh expectationsâ she did a fairly good job of hiding it.
Hades was caught off guard when Persephone appeared before him. Heâd been so engrossed in his conversation with Minthe that he hadnât noticed the younger woman come in. His brows shot up in surprise when she plopped herself down at his table. She seemed content with waiting as he finished up his call. Fortunately the conversation had already been nearing an end so it wasnât hard to wrap things up so he could find out why Persephone had approached him.Â
âGood afternoon, Miss Sideris,â He finally addressed her once heâd hung up. Hades called all of his employees by their last names unless they were close (like Charon) or specifically asked him not to. So far neither of those had been the case with Persephone. âCan I⌠help you with something?â
if persephone knew any better, she wouldâve known it was rude to invite yourself to sit down at someoneâs table and be present while they were having what was probably a private phone conversation. but she didnât so there they were.
as she waited for him to finish his call, she pondered how to go about figuring out what to order without giving away the fact that sheâd never had coffee in her life. she didnât understand why it embarrassed her to admit this. maybe it was because technically she was a grown woman and her mother still coddled her like a toddler. nevertheless, she would be trying her best not to divulge the information. especially since the last time they spoke she literally ran away from him, so he probably already thought she was a weirdo.
but of course, when he asked if he could help her with something, what came out was, âwhat are you drinking? is it good? can i try it?â she snapped her mouth shut and grinned to keep from rambling but made sure to add a please through her clenched teeth.
the way the girl seemed so peaceful laying in the grass almost made norman a little more comfortable standing in the park. looking down at her with an awkward smile, norman finally spoke after a moment of silence. âoh yeah, itâs chill. totally fine. i-iâd suggest sandals if youâre not into wearing shoes. though I mean, itâs summer, I do get the resistance.â norman smiled, even though he was wearing his usual hoodie, dressed more for autumn than summer.Â
âi only wear them at all because apparently itâs not socially acceptable to walk around public places without shoes.â she looked down, touched her feet and grass began to wrap itself around them. âdoes that look convincing or do you think that still counts as being barefoot?âÂ

âRightâŚâ Because throwing your shoes as far away as possible in a public setting was totally the appropriate way to handle wanting them off. Who wouldnât turn them into a projectile weapon just so they could air out their feet? It made complete sense when she thought about it like thatâŚreallyâŚÂ âDid you ever consider justâŚtaking them off?â
if persephone were not persephone, sheâd probably roll her eyes and tell this overly aggressive sounding girl off. but persephone was taught to be nice to people. and though that didnât always happen, this girl hadnât given her a reason to be any less nice than usual. âwell to be fair, i did take them off,â she shrugged. âi was just a little... overenthusiastic about it.â
âI only wear heels on the rare occasion when they seem most appropriate. I pretty much stick to flats. Good for day to day and they can go with pretty much anything.â Alice tilted her head to the side. âReally? That seems like such a trivial thing to get mad about. I mean whatâs the harm in trying something different.â
persephone let out a sigh, covering her eyes with the inside of her arm. âyou donât know my mother. she gets mad about everything. not as much now because i no longer live with her, but now her voice is in my head and itâs almost just as bad.â
