Time for some more Iruma observations! I'm re-reading, and I realized that I'd forgotten to go off about Ronove.
I LOVE Ronove as a character. Nishi makes every character well, but Sabro and Ronove...damn. Ronove's introduction is as an obnoxious narcissist who has probably attacked Amarie to sabotage her for his own gain. Most people think it was him, doing it for his own benefit, and he just rolls with it. Like 'yes, I'm the best, and now I'll for sure beat her, but he absolutely had nothing to do with it! He's just Like That. I know a lot of people don't like the musical numbers they added to the anime, but I completely love them, ESPECIALLY Ronove's. He is the star of his own story. He's obnoxious and over the top and self-obsessed, even for a demon, and I LOVE him for it.
What most people don't seem to notice though, is something that happened at Walter Park. Ronove stops complaining about 'man touching me' with Agares, yeah, but that gag was played out. Ronove unlocked some secret character growth, and I haven't seen anyone else point it out.
When all the beasts have combined and are about to explode at the shelter full of people, Amarie and Balam point out what's happening, what the consequences will be for Iruma, and therefore the readers, but RONOVE ISN'T WITH THEM. Ronove knows this park- it's his backyard. He knows what the evacuation procedures would be, where the people would gather in an emergency. He's obnoxious, but he nearly beat Amarie in an open vote after YEARS of her leadership, as soon as she showed a weaknesshe could exploit. He's not empty-headed. RONOVE KNOWS THE SHELTER IS THE TARGET.
He makes the decision to sacrifice himself and takes action BEFORE IRUMA, all on his own. He leaps out, literally trembling in terror, and manifests what is likely the strongest manifestation of his bloodline magic in his life, knowing that it will almost definitely kill him. He draws the correct conclusions all on his own, battered and separated from the group and any adults, and he ACTS.
Ronove is 15. He is 1 year older than Iruma and he does this all on his own, with no secret ring of power, no hope of beating this monster, no backup plan or support, no hope of stopping the destruction, only aiming it at himself to lessen casualties. Just a 15 year old demon and his own anger and outrage and terror and his own reflexive compassion.
