Open Packaging Network Platform - Where sustainable packaging is born
World's Largest Global Packaging Industry | Open packaging Network
There is a Worldwide multi-billion pound global packaging industry that has grown substantially over the past few years as consumer demand for new goods in emerging markets increases.
There are even major industry conferences in nearly every country in the World to discuss the major global packaging market issues affecting the industry, such as reducing overall levels of packing materials, and helping reduce the global carbon footprint.
The pressure on the industry to change to be greener is not only being brought about by the traditional environmental pressure groups, but is also now being brought about at governmental level.
There are "Green" quotas now being placed on companies to reduce their carbon footprint year on year, and they will face penalties if they do not achieve these reductions. This in turn is causing manufacturing companies and large retailers to put pressure on their online packaging suppliers to look at making alternative forms of packaging that either result in less waste overall e.g. a packaging redesign for a product to use less material, or switching to making packaging out of more friendly materials that can be recycled by either the retailer or the end customer.
There is also talk of charging household customers for the weight of rubbish that gets collected from their house each week, and hence if this were to come in to place consumers would change their buying habits over time, to buy goods that come with the least packaging. Whilst there is a lot of feeling against charging households by weight for rubbish removal, there is also an overwhelming push to reduce packaging levels on a global scale.
