Bruised Heart Series 1
Things are suppose to get better right? It’s 2019 and we are in an age of social media and “having our lives together, super zen, drinking green tea in the morning, acia bowls for lunch” life. We are suppose to digest the “good karma” mantra and sweat it out of our pores right? So much so, that when we take risks and open our hearts up- like we’ve de-clothed ourself in the middle of the busy street - we expect good karma to come our way.
But here’s the catch that no one is talking about (or maybe talking too much about), the universe, and the wonderful (often not so wonderful) humans of the earth DON’T care. Life will shit on you anyway. You can stand naked and exposed and you still won’t find what you’re looking for. You can dedicate all your time to soul work and convince yourself you really truly deserve to fall in love, and it just won’t work. That’s the beauty of life I guess. Maybe I’m just an arrogant 22 year old that thinks life has already brutally damaged her soft soul, but I’m over it. And I’m over getting taken advantage of. So here’s my broken hear manifesto, in hopes that you, the reader can take a break from the busy world around you to relate. because if all else in the world is cruel, the one thing we can rely on is empathy and shared experiences. We are all on such different paths, yet somehow we find connection in strangers eyes. That is the most wonder feeling in the world. That even if you feel like the most ostracized person on earth, there are other souls out there, ready to understand and bond with you.
I’m a sociology major and one thing that has been on my mind for years is the topic of love in a capitalistic society. Does love exist within capitalism? I guess that depends on what your version of love is. I envision love to be a place of acceptance, a place of comfort, a place of knowing, a place where hurt cannot exist. Love is a commitment you make everyday to someone. Love is a place a freedom, a place that feels like home but you’re not tethered to it.
Can this be true within capitalism, where from the moment we can speak we learn that concept of money and owning. Can we love freely when greed and ownership are running our world? Marriage for example is suppose to be an act of devotion to another but legally, it shows ownership to another person. Can love exist like this? Or does it just suffocate us? Is there freedom in marriage, or have we all been indoctrinated to cause pain in our lovers lives through expectations we were taught? Are humans suppose to be monogamous? All of this is a huge ??? in my mind. and I am always weary of people who state facts about love. How do you truly know? Just some thoughts before we divulge into my messy love life.
