SO funny to me that when eugene o’neill wrote “the iceman cometh” back in 1939, an iceman was a well-known social fixture, he was the hunk who delivered hunks of ice to your house pre-refrigeration, and much like the milkman the standard joke was he would fuck your wife while he was at it. so the point of the title is that it juxtaposes the most ordinary fears of middle class american life with the high-scale language of the shattering of kings and the hand of the reaper, “the nft bro approacheth thy mother” type of thing. but with the obsolescence of the job of iceman and presumable linguistic contamination from the movie iceman (1984), we now have MULTIPLE movies called “the iceman cometh” about epic shattering-of-kings type conflicts that center around some dude who gets frozen in a glacier. aang style
