BONNIE LANE AARON MCELROY & TEXTAQUEEN OPENING RECEPTION FRIDAY MAY 29, 7pm to 9pm ADULT READINGS BY BONNIE LANE ELEANOR JANE B. DIEHL SKYE CLEARY & RACHEL HILLS VINTAGE FURNISHINGS BY BROOKLYN RECLAMATION Commencing FRIDAY MAY 29, 8pm sharp RSVP ESSENTIAL Exhibition continues until JUNE 8, 2015 Warning: it's a bit explicit. HOUSEBOUND reveals to us aspects of home-dwelling that are equally as mysterious as they are mundane. Surrounded by refurbished retro furnishings, the space lulls our "house guests" into a false sense of domestic comfort. Meanwhile, the surrounding walls confront us with self-contained bodies, that subversively and voyeuristically transgress the illusion of familiarity. Spanning various mediums and forms of storytelling, each featured artist deals with personal identity, sexuality, banal eroticism and conceptions of exoticism. TEXTAQUEEN hails originally from Australia, yet currently lives and works in The Bay Area, California. Using the humble medium of fibre-tip markers to articulate a complex politics of race, gender, sexuality and identity; Texta uses the image of the self as a conduit to question notions of "the exotic." Texta has exhibited widely and wildly across Australia, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Perth Institute of Contemporary Art; Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne; Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne; and the Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane. Texta has also exhibited in Amsterdam, Belgium and across North America, including a recent mural commission for Taking it to the Streets at de Young Museum, San Francisco. Texta's work is held in numerous collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Heide Museum of Modern Art; National Gallery of Victoria; National Portrait Gallery of Australia; University of Queensland; Monash University of Modern Art; Cruthers Collection of Womens Art; Artbank as well as private collections across Australia, the UK and USA. Texta is represented by Sullivan & Strumpf, Sydney. BONNIE LANE is an Australian born, New York based artist and is a current MFA candidate at New York University. Her practice spans moving image, performance, photography, poetry, installation, sculpture and collage; each medium used as a means to objectify the male figure from a female heterosexual perspective (or, rather, the "female gaze") with an aim to debunk prescribed gender roles. The recipient of many grants, awards and scholarships, Bonnie has participated in artist-in-residence programs in Norway, Portugal, South Korea and the USA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Anna Pappas Gallery, Melbourne and the Art Currents Institute, New York. She has also exhibited work in the Seoul Museum of Art Nanji Gallery; Art-Athina, Athens; Atelier 35, Bucharest, Romania; 91mq Project Space, Berlin; YouYou Gallery, Guangzhou, China and Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center, New York, among others. Bonnie holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Victorian College of Arts and a first-class Honors Degree from Monash University, Melbourne. Bonnie is represented by Anna Pappas Gallery, Melbourne. AARON MCELROY lives and works in New York, beginning his photography career in 2005. Aaron has held solo shows at Horton Gallery NY and at Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR.. His work was part of group exhibitions at FOAM Photography Museum, Amsterdam; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn; Chelsea Art Museum and Noorderlicht gallery Groningen, NL. He has published over 8 monographs, most recently The Devil May Care and SWEET published by S_U_N_ Editions 2015, and After Wake V2 with Ampersand Editions 2014. His next monograph will be released in May by Editions Bessard. Aaron has been published in many artist anthologies and magazines. ELEANOR JANE lives in Brooklyn and works as an assistant editor. She has been published in Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Joyland Magazine, and Adult Magazine, among other publications. B. DIEHL is a poet, quasi-recluse, and cat enthusiast from Phillipsburg, NJ. His poetry has been featured in Lehigh Valley Vanguard, Poydras Review, Torrid Literature Journal, Cartagena Journal, Foliate Oak Literary Magazine, Synchronized Chaos, and more. When he is not writing, you can usually find him at home, hanging out with his cats and/or feeding his social media addiction. Image courtesy Aaron McElroy

By extending his gaze across time from Hellenistic art to Modernism, Peter Daverington presents us with a collection of works that recall the ruins of a ubiquitously imaginary dynasty, in the realm of a museum display devoted to ancient art. In these works the artist removes fragments, lacuna, missing pieces that intuit a sense of loss, of incompletion, of the already happened. Both the sculptures and the paintings depict figures in three dimensional pictorial space and adhere to compositional formalism, yet each are in various states of decay, revealing the processes of their making and the materials from which they are forged, such as exposing raw canvas in the painting and the foam substrate under the plaster in the sculptures. Together these imaginings come to assemble an aesthetic aligned with Greek antiquity rooms, oscillating between artifact and artifice. Daverington here establishes himself as an artist who can seamlessly integrate various historic periods of art into illusions that are a byproduct of our eclectic epoch. Art Critic Dan Rule recently described Daverington's oeuvre as: 'A cacophony of intermeshed ideas, genres, symbology, styles and techniques. An orgy of classical figuration, religious motifs and creation myths interlock amid wild futurist fantasies and surrealist conjurings...The spectacle of these works is one of both the hand and the happily crazed mind that controls it.'
Coming soon, a selection of work by Belem Lett for the upcoming two artist show "Bang Bang". Work from Genevieve Felix Reynolds coming soon...
