one frustrating thing about being a lucas sinclair fan is that you aren't allowed to point out that eddie wasn't actually that nice to him specifically because everybody will lose their freaking minds at the idea of even one single tiny iota of criticism being thrown in his direction and i hate it. everyone goes omg eddie is so yada yada yada so sweet and nurturing he's the safe place for all freaks uwu yada yada yada and like... to each their own or whatever... but not to lucas he wasn't.
and he really could've used some support btw.
why did eddie need to meet chrissy and steve in order for it to register to him that you could be both a) a fully fledged person with a functioning brain and b) also participate in something that is popular?
lucas was right there and he was doing both. he was right there balancing all of it. he was still kind and empathetic and nerdy and smart. he just ALSO had to deal with things eddie couldn't even begin to fathom. and eddie knew him! and that wasn't enough for him to believe you could have basketball AND brain. he encouraged lucas's friends to ostracize him (lest they themselves earn eddie's disapproval) and oh yeah openly belittled him for having a hobby he doesn't approve of. behind his back. to his friends. and encouraged his friends to do the same. like he doesn't already have enough to worry about. and he didn't apologize. lucas always apologizes when he treats someone even remotely badly (even when he's justified) and he's a lot younger so i'm sure that eddie coulda thrown a "sorry i'm a douche" his way instead of giving one to steve harrington who didn't even NEED (or really care about) an explanation.
but anyway, justice for lucas, he had the worst fucking time in s4 and s5 doesn't look fantastic for him rn either 🥲

I don't understand people who think that having an unrequited love story arc for Will would be reasonable. Of course, this is something that happens in real life; it's realistic. Yes, it is realistic to write a character who would go through this arc.
Why would you write an unrequited love story for your only gay character, though? They had this planned out for Will since the beginning, and they could have chosen so many different directions for him to explore his struggles about being gay. His arc could have been about not relating to his friends when they started dating girls (like in season 3, except they had to make Mike specifically involved with it). His arc could have involved a romantic interest, or it could have not involved any romantic interest at all and still have been developed and explored.
They had plenty of time to introduce another boy to the story and have him end up with Will. They could have also chosen to continue with the unrequited love story involving Mike, but have the rejection occur much earlier, perhaps in Season 3. Then, they could show how Will was able to move on and find someone else.
Instead, they specifically made him fall in love with Mike and made sure to confirm and emphasize this storyline in the penultimate season. Why would they give this storyline to a kid who has been suffering terrible things since before the Upside Down even affected him? That has endured homophobia and already believes he has no chance at love whatsoever?
That is the worst character they could choose to write an unrequited love story about. It would add nothing to Will's development since he already thinks nothing good is ever going to happen to him. It wouldn't surprise the general audience at all because that's what they're expecting.
What kind of message would that send? Yes, gay kids don't deserve a happy ending and should just be thankful that their friends and family don't hate them for who they are?
Byler has many proofs in many ways, but honestly, the biggest proof to me is that it simply doesn't make sense for it not to be endgame.
what they dont tell you about growing up as a very lonely little girl is that you grow up and still a part of you remains that very lonely little girl
