Once upon a time in New York City, the wealthy Kingston family saw their eldest son, Frederic, married to his childhood sweetheart, Adrianna. Their marriage was a happy one and only became happier when two years in, after spending a year trying for a baby, Arianna revealed that she was pregnant. Their picture perfect life was about to grow by one, but closer towards the end of her pregnancy, Adrianna fell dangerously ill. Using their powerful connections, the Corona family was able to secure a magical golden flower from a fairy, who advised them to brew it into a tea in order to save both Fredericâs beloved wife and their unborn child. Lo and behold, Rapunzelâs mother was healed and gave birth to a healthy baby girl, who was gifted with the very same magical abilities as the flower, denoted by the sun shaped birthmark on her finger. However, things did not remain happy for very long.
Being a a powerful family meant that the Corona had garnered some enemies âone being an evil, jealous woman who was not only interested in magic, but also exacting revenge for her broken heart. Once she caught wind of Rapunzelâs powers, the woman enacted a plan to kidnap her and raise the baby as her own, as well as taking full advantage of her magical abilities. Rapunzel hadnât been more than a week old when she was abducted from her parentâs Upper East Side apartment, never to be seen again. The woman brought Rapunzel to a secluded cabin just off the edge of a small town in Vermont. Her âmotherâ soon discovered that Rapunzelâs hair was the source of her magic and as the young girl grew, she was manipulated into thinking that the outside world would never accept her and that she was better off inside, using her hair to heal her âmotherâ and herself, only when necessary.
Rapunzel grew up in seclusion with a negligent and emotionally manipulative âmotherâ, although to her, it was normal. To cope, she spent her days painting, baking, and most importantly to her story, reading. Fairytales were always her penchant when she was younger, but as she continued to grow up, her curiosity grew into a hunger for knowledge about magic. It took until her 21st birthday for Rapunzel to finally read about fairy gifts in one of the books she was occasionally allowed to order online. Everything pointed to her birth mark being a fairy gift, contrary to what her âmotherâ had told her, and no longer could Rapunzel believe the lies and ignore her need for answers.
About a year or two ago, in the dead of night and with very little to her name, Rapunzel escaped her âmotherâsâ cabin and set out on her own to find answers about her past and magic. At first, she ended up in New York, the very place where her story began, devouring any and all information she could. All signs pointed to Swynlake, England. It took a few months of saving, but finally, Rapunzel has arrived. She believes that the town holds the secrets to her past and the hopes for her future. Even after a year, itâs still been difficult for Rapunzel to adjust to life outside of her cabin âspending twenty one years hidden from civilization and kept from her potential can do that to a person. Aside from her curiosity about her magic, she is also vastly curious about interpersonal relationships. While vibrant and eager to build connections, Rapunzel can be jumpy and mildly suspicious at first. However, sheâs spent her the first few months in Swynlake building herself a small life that sheâs proud of; she has a small, cozy apartment, a job working as a florist at Garden Grove and can truly say that her life has finally begun âand it terrifies her just as much as it excites her.
VIEWS ON MAGIC:Â
Since Rapunzel has magical abilities herself, sheâs very accepting of others. In fact, more often than not, sheâs prone to asking a lot of questions simply so she can further grasp her own. When it comes to herself, though, Rapunzel is very cautious. She was conditioned to assume that people will try to prosecute her for her hairâs healing and anti-aging properties; little did Rapunzel know that âMotherâ manipulating her to keep her magical abilities all to herself. She will not utilize her powers unless she trusts the person or the situation is dire. Sheâs also associated with the Sundrop, which ties back to the magical golden flower Rapunzelâs mother consumed while she was pregnant, however it and itâs lore is unbeknownst to her currently.Â
