Hi there query re gunmetal cone6 glaze. Usually glazes mix up to 100 g but this one doesn't. Do I adjust water or raw materials? Ta
My guess is the original creator of the glaze heavily modified it from something else, reducing it to 70g from 100g. As long as everything is kept proportionate it should be fine, I would think. So use 70% of the water you would for a 100g glaze. Easier to add water if it’s too thick than to remove water if it’s too runny.
Is the KoHouts Iron fog 2 glaze fired in cone 10 reduction? And have you tried this glaze in a wood firing? I am considering trying it out. Let me know. Thanks, and much appreciated
Yes it is. The glaze has not been tested in a wood firing.
Have you tried the Hamada light blue base recipe from ceramicsrecipes org?
Can’t say I have. But my one true love is iron- I’m much more into warm reds, browns, and golds than blue. From the photos (the formula’s behind a paywall) it looks like it tends to craze, which means it’s more suitable for decorative or scultpural work than food surfaces. Other than that, I’ve got nothing for you. Sorry.
Hello there, I just came across your page, I too am an under graduate ceramists so I hope to experiemnt with some of your recipes. I was wondering, what country are you from? Sometimes the purity of ingredients and recipes depend on location. Thanks, Georgia.
I’m from the United States; the city I live in and was taught ceramics in is in central Illinois. Most of the materials in the local studio where I gathered the first hundred or so recipes are from the eastern half of the United States; the clay definitely came from Kentucky. Most of the other recipes I’ve gathered seem to be American in origin, but more than that, I don’t know.
I hope this was helpful!

Hi folks,
I'm aware the queue is empty. Hopefully I'll find some time in the week or so after Easter to refill it. In the meantime, please enjoy this holiday weekend!

What clay body do you use for your test tiles?
If they're sourced from another site, it depends. You'll have to click through and check there.
If they were from my old studio (the first 150 recipes or so) then they are typically on brown stoneware, sometimes white stoneware or porcelain.
