a laugh — it peals from her tiers, spilling in a discordant nature like blood onto a battlefield, sounding delightful in one tone then crazed the next. it is a mixture of bell—like and psychotic, a discordant mess of notes from such ruby red lips.

“ you think i wish for you to come and challenge me? you think i wished for you to come to me, all those years ago, and try to make me ‘see the wrongs of my ways’, to kneel before your father’s feet and suck his godly cock like an obedient harlot? ”

a smirk appeared after a moment, loose dress of spider silk falling to the wayside as she gripped the silk thread tighter, only for her hand to loosen. the silk thread stayed around her fingers, hand slowly rotating in the air. if one concentrated, they could see multiple threads being pulled closer.

“ah, but i don’t thirst for your dirty, disgusting blood. i’d sooner see it spill on the floor than drink deep from your holy veins. you disgust me. ”

       any insult towards the head of the gods would not go unpunished , any person with such a mouth would not go unscathed . she cared not for her own condition ; it had been this way since the days of old , where she would be her father’s champion and prime defender , right or wrong . right or wrong , her father was the law , the keeper of order , the one who had entrusted her with the most precious gifts of Olympus ; she would not have his name dragged and sullied .

       blood was drawn , skin was cut ; Athena marched forward without fear , rage boiling within her as she grabbed a fistful of Arachne’s ebony locks ; long , straight , bountiful -- she is a blessed one . fair may be her countenance , but so are the countenances of her father’s numerous lovers . she would not be swayed by a beautiful face ; any affront to her father is a crime .

“ don’t even try it, you gods want things from us all the time. ”

us, she states — as if she’s even mortal anymore. us, she proclaims — a mouthpiece for those who have no voice? you gods, she screams — used derogatorily instead of with holy reverence. you gods, she declares — like a battle cry of a warrior, like the tears of a soon—to—be widow.

the thread is almost laughable, really — a slightly ticklish notion against the back of athena’s calves, moving slowly with each little gesture of that tightly clenched fist. there is no reason to be afraid, but anyone stupid enough to be unafraid would find themselves slashed to ribbons by her threads in mere seconds.

— such a death is warranted by those unintelligent enough to underestimate the avenger. — perhaps it would be best to heed the thread’s warning touches.

“ you approached me once more. what, do you want a rematch? want me to prove just how much better i am than you? go on, speak up, i’m listening. ”

       the blood boils within the weaver’s veins ; a fool would not be able to sense the murderous intent that a warrior would usually have in the carnage of war . a woman scorned , a woman betrayed is the most formidable force of all ; many a man had fallen to the rage of a woman , no war can ever match up to the force of woman when she is enraged , no man can match a woman affronted -- other than another woman herself .

“ i thought i smelled a familiar stench, ”

she gave but a small pause, back turned to the goddess behind her; the spider—woman tilting her head back just so. it was the slightest angle — one meant for intimidation or rage. the emotions were held back for a moment, however, as heel turned and face met face. arachne’s fingers clenched tightly around a hidden thread of silk, invisible to the naked eye unless one searched dearly for it.

“ what do you want now, witch? ”

a slight tug, a movement of the hand, pulling a thread she’s dragged behind her by instinct with a practiced motion. the thread touches against the back of the goddess’ legs, a warning — come closer and die.

        ———  SHE HAD THOUGHT THAT the day would pass by uneventfully ; her judgment was marred and mistaken . there is folly to fall for words that serve to provoke ; many a warrior had tripped and fallen simply because their anger got the absolute better of them , and regretfully ( or not ; she was simply teaching people of their own PLACE ! ) , Athena herself was very similar to the warriors that she blessed and endorsed . she felt the threads ; she feared them not . her gaze is figurative steel as she presented herself as dismissive  —  did this mortal think she could best her still ?

——— IT IS A GREAT SURPRISE that Medusa trusts her still ; confides in her as such that she would render herself vulnerable , to know that Wisdom would not lay a hand on her and curse her once more . strands of long purple pool down her lap onto the floor , the closest a worshiper could come towards a most venerable higher power ; a priestess at close proximity to the one that she served . a hand stops and stills right above Medusa’s head ; there is hesitation in her future action , but she shoves it away . if she truly wished to use her as a place of refuge , there is nothing that will make Athena deny her . 

       a hand smooths out purple locks ; Athena sings softly . she sings the songs of the city that honored her , the songs that comforted the people of old . may her slumber be peaceful , may her days be fortunate in adversities .

“  and, pray tell, she of wisdom    —   why have you sought me out? how uncharacteristic, unless this is for something more than idle chit chat.  “   minimal disdain but only by circumstance. she has caught the avenging goddess in a foul mood ( per usual, but no matter. no matter at all. )  

“  i assume the matter is important, if you show yourself to me so readily, despite the stern look on your face. “

        ———  OF FIRM ADRESTIA  can she properly confide in ; only ADRESTIA can relinquish her of her once-wavering convictions ! truly uncharacteristic , but this simply must be done , this simply must be sought of in counsel . 

“  tell me, athena, for the sake of this .. ‘catching up’ as it was worded, have you found any hobbies within this place? something to occupy your time? “  to occupy the time spent thinking, spent dwelling  –  a silent maternal nudge towards the unspoken.   was this invasive of her to ask?  mayhaps ..    “  if you are comfortable continuing to speak with me, that is.  “ 

she understands the weight of responsibility. the weight of reverence and guidance. gods are always meant to guide yet what would man do if a god knew naught of that?    the fire is sacred, the fire breeds human evolution.  the fire is sacred, the fire shan’t blow out ‘lest you seek the crumbling of societies. 

          ———  “ THEY CALL INQUIRING OF ONE’S STATE SUCH THINGS  in these days , do they not ? “ successfully , a laugh is elicited from her ; words would coin together in the most peculiar of ways , as well as speech gradually becoming more simple as time passes by . the time for poets and dirge singers are long gone , and she can only shrug her shoulders in response to her aunt’s question .

“  i would not think lesser of you, child of my brother.  “  tone befitting a comforting mother to a degree, she does not press any further. she has made her choice to not speak of the ill that plagues her heart but her offer still remains open to her.  the folly of man can be the folly of gods:  to think of the past in any capacity is breeding grounds for self inflicted turmoil.

     EMERALD IRISES OF THE KING ARE MET WITH A FELLOW SERVANT whose status reigns supreme than most Heroic Spirits. Entities with divine presence usually brought a King of Knights into bowing her head, though it’s rare for one who crosses a different belief. Greek gods and goddesses were peculiar, in a unique sense, but harbor their conflicting tales that grant SABER some caution. Least one goddess appears with formality from her stature alone.
