under flickering lights { takane & nagisa }
Nagisa tilted his head to some trifling degree as he gave the girl, who was exhibiting a conspicuous look of frenzy, a once over. Even as she asserted that she does indeed have friends, the boy still found it hard to count on seeing as she looked like she was making an effort to convince herself instead of him. A smile of amusement surfaced his lips at the thought and he couldn’t help but let a small sound of chuckle pass his lips.
"I’ve never thought of you as a loser if that’s what you’re worried about." He never viewed people with lack of social skills as ‘losers’ at all. If anything, he finds them intriguing— curious for the reason of how they became that way. Just like right now, this girl had certainly caught his interest.
"All right! Let me just lock this place up and we’ll go somewhere fun, yeah? I already have a place in mind! Oh, my name’s Nagisa by the way. Nagisa Hazuki. A pleasure to meet you! And you are?"
Takane stiffened as the sound passed his lips. She couldn't figure out if he was laughing at the fact that she was clearly friendless, or if he was just laughing for the sake of easing her worries. Either way, it was embarrassing, and the shade of her cheeks reflected that mindset. Her fingers curled into fists at her sides, and she could feel the sting of her nails pressing against her soft palms. The brunette slightly puffed out one of her cheeks in a pout. How did she so constantly end up in these embarrassing situations?
Her fear of being mocked was assuaged when he first spoke again. A warm puff of air escaped her parted lips in a sigh of relief. Her posture relaxed, and she was able to somewhat meet his eyes. What would she have even done if he had said that she was a loser? There was no doubt that she would be able to leave some sort of mark on him to make him never forget her hatred for him, but all the same... it would damage her pride.
Instead of looking at the boy while introducing herself, Takane stared at the small pivots in her skin where her nails left their mark, like a territory. "Nagisa," she muttered, internalizing the name. "I'm Takane Enomoto. Although..." The brunette narrowed her eyes slightly, glaring up at the blonde. "Where are you taking me? It better not be some place shady!"
disappointment [seto]
Seto skipped merrily towards the end of the many aisles of the room, the walkway littered with plush velvet chairs on both sides. The male had greatly enjoyed the film he had seen, a documentary featuring the life of a young polar bear growing up alone. Seto had to admit the sad film had drawn him to tears, yet he seemed to be the only one in the entire theater that cried even in the slightest, much less the only one that sat there a good hour after the documentary ended and sobbed.
Exiting the now-empty room, Seto continued down the maroon carpeting that lined the floor, stopping at the large trash can at the end of the hall. When his eyes fell on the contents of the bin as well as the green tree logo on the popcorn box he held, they widened abruptly.
"This material is recyclable! How dare it be thrown in the trash?!"
Thus, Seto exited the hallway lugging behind three hefty sacks full of trash, to be deposited in a recycling bin. Strolling casually out of the theater, the boy was oblivious to the strange looks thrown his way as he passed. Suddenly, he felt a light impact hit his front, his yellow eyes snapping immediatly to the source.

Seto, that's right. Takane was at least glad that she actually knew the man and that she hadn't confronted a total stranger and claimed to know them. More importantly, she was glad that she knew someone here. A small smile fought its way onto her lips as she stared up at the boy. He didn't resemble Ayano in the slightest, although she knew the reason for it. Sometimes, it was easy to forget that her three younger siblings had been adopted. They were close enough to each other that one could have easily assumed that they had been together since birth.
That was one face she missed, among others. Ayano was one of her closest friends, and she always listened when she had to rant about something, no matter how small of a thing it was. The fact that she had a hard time making friends in the first place was hard on her, but Ayano was so approachable. Seto was lucky to have a big sister like her, when all Takane had was herself.
"Seto... How could I forget something so simple? I guess this move has just left me scattered," she mused aloud, a warm puff of air escaping her parted lips.
"I don't mind, though. I didn't really expect you to remember my name after all this time, so it's no big deal." Takane shrugged, shoving her hands in her sweater pockets, her fingers finding the end of her headphone cord. They weren't plugged in, and her skin stroked the exposed jack as a sort of nervous tendency. Socializing politely was not her strong point. "It's Takane. It's nice to meet you. Uh... I mean, even if it is just a second time."
inseparable [haruka]
It had been about two weeks since Takane had first moved to Prava, and she was already starting to get settled in. She could find her way around town easily, although she still had difficulties now and then. School was easy enough to navigate to, as it wasn't too far from her tiny apartment. Her job was something she'd memorized the location of before she had even decided to work there -- after all, Takane loved video games.
Even now, as she sat in class, the brunette held her Nintendo 3DS in her hands. Even though it would be embarrassing to admit to most others, she had become recently addicted to Animal Crossing New Leaf. However, there were certain parts of the game that frustrated her greatly. First of all, it was time-based, having to save and quit every time she wanted to skip a block of time was getting old very fast.
Second, it was hard to get money. She would be planting endless fruits and selling them every four days, but she still barely managed to customize her character, her home, and complete public works projects at the same time. As of now, she was trying to remodel her house and build a cafe at the same time, which proved to be much easier said than done.
Takane glanced to her side, almost expecting Haruka, her best friend from back in Japan, to be there. Lately she'd been seeing him out of the corner of her eye, just wanting to see him once more, or to ask how he had been doing. His condition worried her from even this far away, and her concerns seldom stopped bothering her. Right then, her hallucinations hadn't ceased.
"Heh, it's almost like you're right next to me, Haruka," she muttered to herself, endlessly pressing the buttons on the console to reach her goal of 180,000 bells. "It's funny how even from this far, I miss having you here." Little did the brunette know, the boy in question was sitting right next to her.

bus ride [mary]
It had been a very long day. After classes were over, Takane typically rode the bus back to her apartment. She stared down at the notebook in her hands that listed her assignments. The brunette had been stuck on a certain math problem since the beginning of the ride, and by now, she was about to skip the question entirely.
However, with her headphones on her ears, her eyes slowly began to close as she stared at the numbers on the page. They slowly began to merge, and in them, she swore she could see the answers clearly. Although, it was a little too late before her head tilted completely and landed on the shoulder of the white-haired girl next to her.
In her sleep, she muttered something about the answer to the problem, which out of context might have been a bit strange. After all, it looked like she was trying to make a move on the poor girl while whispering equations sensually in her ear. What a great first impression, Takane.

disappointment [seto]
Takane had decided that today would be a good day to see a movie. She didn't know what to see, however, and ended up picking at random based on the time she arrived. In truth, she didn't even remember the film's name any more -- just that people around her were talking with an extreme fervor of the film's details. She seemed to be the only person who had attended the showing alone, and this made an emptiness tug at her. However, she brushed it off, because in its place was an extreme feeling of dissatisfaction.
The movie was terrible. Hastily throwing away her ticket stub as she exited with the crowd, she kept her head low while she watched her feet traverse the pavement. Why had she even wanted to come in the first place? She knew from experience that attending something like that was never fun to do alone.
Her thoughts were halted, however, as she bumped straight into someone. Stopping, she slowly looked up, mumbling something under her breath. However, upon seeing the figure in front of her, her eyes opened wide. "Oh-- You're--" Takane's voice cut off as she took the headphones off of her ears. "You're Ayano's little brother, right...?" Why was his name failing to return to her memory? She didn't spend too much time with Ayano's siblings, but given how much time she spent with the girl, she would expect to remember such things. Regardless, she was just happy to find a familiar face.
under flickering lights { takane & nagisa }
Even with that grouchy look the girl exhibited, Nagisa could still see the flicker of insecurity in her eyes. And based on the flushing of the stranger’s cheeks, the blonde knew that one could only assume that her reason was beyond the bounds of embarrassment. She did have the aspects of a person who regards her pride highly and with that attitude, the blonde could only count upon her reason for wanting to buy a kitten (which was unmistakably a spontaneous decision given the time she had stepped in).
He straightened up after giving the finishing touches on the shelf then strode over to where the girl stood.
"It actually takes a lot of time for a person to choose the right pet for them and I’m obligated to close the store soon. But hey, if you’re feeling lonely, there’s no need for you to feel so shy admitting it. If you want, I can keep you company."
"Then I guess I'll just--" Wait, what? Takane froze, her eyes widening in response to what the boy had said. How could he have known? Was she really being so painfully obvious about her social life (or lack thereof)?
"I-I'm not lonely! I... I have plenty of friends!" Placing her hands to her cheeks to perhaps hide the heat that collected in them now, she went into an almost panicked state of thinking. How would she get herself out of this mess? If she just outright denied it, it would probably make it more obvious, but if she accepted, it would still be implying that she didn't have anyone to spend time with (which was, undoubtedly, the truth).
Clearing her throat, Takane rubbed the back of her neck idly while stuttering her way through the conversation. "W-Whatever, I mean... If you don't have anything to do, then I'll let you tag along. Just don't get any weird ideas like you did right now!! I'm not some sort of friendless loser, okay?"
"A shooting game..? I’ve never played one before. Are they fun?" She asked, backing away from the screen. There was nothing too see except the pause screen besides… the girl wasn’t moving too openly. Ahhhh, Mirai didn’t want to make her feel awkward. Mirai had never really played a shooting game and it was interesting to see someone playing one. She knew they were rather popular nowadays.
The brunette tensed, wondering if she should answer the question truthfully. Her reputation as the #2 ranked player across the country was important to her, but if someone found out who she really was, it would be a disaster. That part of her life was very embarrassing offline, and what if they thought less of her? But then again, it's not like it mattered. After all, this girl was just a stranger and wanted her opinion on it.
"Well... they're not too bad, I guess. Would you... like to give it a try?"
under flickering lights { takane & nagisa }
"A… A kitten? You want a kitten?”
It was probably rude of him to express such skepticism in the stress of his voice but he had done it without thinking twice. He couldn’t help himself. The girl didn’t look like the type who would be fond of animals— let alone kittens. The grouchy look on her face clearly demonstrated the line ‘I hate life’ and Nagisa was positive that he wouldn’t want to get in her way.
Though he was pretty sure an elated smile will get that endearing face of hers bright and radiant. Still and all, she carried the aspects of someone who wouldn’t just let anyone make her smile. If this girl was a student at MalCo, Nagisa would have trailed after her 24/7 with different methods of getting her to turn that frown upside down.
Wait, his mind was getting sidetracked.
"Um… why do you want a kitten?" Such a strange question to ask a customer but he had to make sure that she had no bad intentions.
"Is there... some sort of problem with that..?" Feeling more and more embarrassed by the minute, Takane averted her gaze to the stack of cages lining the walls meant for various animals of all sizes. Anything to avoid eye contact, really -- if she did end up making it, would her cheeks turn different hues of red? It wasn't something she wanted to find out, so she didn't push it.
Shoving her hands into the pockets of her sweater, she tried to push back her cowardice. Heat collected in between her cheeks and her headphones as she sank in place, and the brunette cleared her throat. A huff escaped between her barely open lips. What was she supposed to tell him? Takane could hardly admit the reason she wanted a pet to herself, let alone another person. She would seem outright lame if she admitted that she was lonely -- perhaps he would tell her to just go make some friends instead of wasting his time at work.
"Do I have to have a reason for adopting a pet? Jeez, it's not like I'm trying to take out an insurance claim. Just help me out... the sooner we get this over with, the sooner you can clock out."
"A-Ah! Your welcome and t-thank you.." Mirai tipped her head. After noticing her handheld device, Mirai felt less awkward. She tried to look at the screen only seeing a pause screen. Boo. "Um.. mind me asking.. but, what game are you playing?"
Even though the other seemed a little bit shy, it was nice to spend time with someone. "It's no problem," she stated, following the girl's gaze to her game screen. When she asked what it was, Takane stiffened a little in her seat. She was never really open about what games she liked to play, but if she scared the stranger away, oh well. "It's... a shooting game. But don't get the wrong idea, I'm just borrowing it from a friend!"

pink-sweatered-courage asked you: "U-Um... I like your headphones.."
"Huh?" The brunette's concentration on her handheld game was broken as she was approached by a rather cute pink-haired girl. Pressing the start button to pause her progress, she gave the stranger a rare smile. "Ah, thanks... I like your glasses..."
"Kiss me, quick!"
4. Cheeks
How did she end up in this situation, exactly? She didn't even know this man, but at least he was somewhat cute. A dark shade of red covering her cheeks, she took a step forward, adrenaline filling her veins. It was just the cheek, just the cheek. Her fingers balled into fists, arms shaking, Takane closed the space between them to place a soft kiss against the man's cheek. Pulling back, she tried to hide her face by looking to the side, but it was still highly noticeable that her face was almost the color of a tomato.
"You'd better not tell anyone about this, or I'll make you regret ever opening your mouth."
