A Dense look over Indian Wedding Traditions
Indian wedding traditions is entirely different from others religions, or countries traditions. Indian wedding differs based on the caste, religion, culture, geographical areas. Unlike others, their wedding is a long term process, and ends after performing a lot of vows, or rituals. Some rituals are performed during the wedding day, and some of them are performed before or after wedding. Their wedding is more interesting, and has lots of fun than others, as their celebration doesn’t end even after the marriage.
As compared with the western wedding style where the marriage ceremony happens in a one day, and number of guests are limited. Unlike that, In Indian wedding the number of guests keeps on increasing day by day till the marriage day.
Now, let us discuss some important traditions that happen in the Indian wedding ceremonies.
In their wedding, the ritual of wearing dresses during the marriage day is quite different. Brides usually prefer wearing red saree or Lehnga & chunni, and grooms usually prefer wearing sherwani.
Their tradition of wedding invitation cards is also quite different. Since, Indians strongly believe in god, and for the sake of god, they put the god symbol on the invitation cards. This is considered very auspicious, and bless for the newlywed couples. Under the invitations, some mantras are written along with the bride’s & groom’s name.
Before one day of their marriage, Mehendi ceremony is held in which brides hand & feet are decorated with the Mehendi. Also, ladies dance, and sing during that event which makes it interesting.
Also, one of the interesting and joyful moments is, when bride’s sister blocks the entrance of marriage hall, and demands for the money, or jewelry. Groom negotiates for the amounts with her sister what he has to pay her.
Now, it’s wedding day for which marriage hall & Mandap is well decorated. Couples sit there along with the priest which chants mantras to complete this marriage. Also, brides & grooms take fere.
Finally, the Vidai event takes place, and bride goes to groom’s house, where they are greeted with the traditional Aarti by groom’s mother. Their event doesn’t stop here, as after that they play some games of finding rings which is played between the brides & grooms.
