like imagine you have the ability to drain a being of magic in the way you were once drained and you're past the point of caring whether you hurt them or not. you just want something, anything, to make you not feel powerless like you once were. and you find this faerie who's so much like you were, and you just want to rip her apart. you want her to suffer, but you also want her to love you for it. you put her in a cage, call her a caged bird, clip her wings, but it's okay, right? you'll free her eventually, and she'll be oh so grateful to you but for now...you want to wait. because there's a part of you that finds her beautiful for this. she's lost seemingly everything that makes her a member of her species, but this way, she can still be yours, right? and if you make her suffer, keep out anyone else that can show her what a better life is, she'll never know. because you've made something that can never leave you. and that's the key to everything, right? that's the one thing that brings your artificer power back like nothing else.
