yeah, i'm not even bothered with the brian/julia tag because i feel it's super niche. i'm more than happy to ship them with what we are getting but i'm afraid that's also never going to happen.

it's outlander, they stick with their fated couples

it's outlander but like, it's outlander from wish or temu, the writing is nowhere near the level where they would even consider it - one of the reasons why brian and julia are appealing as a couple is because they are (in the current timeline) the only ones communicating. that's how low level writing/shipping we are at.

jamie still has to happen, the great escape has to happen, lallybroch needs to be built - you could do something wild but that would require to give the characters flaws and depth and not just them as 'medieval boss babe', 'not!jamie', not!claire' and "soldier with ptsd' - again a level of writing that isn't there

there is one thing i hate about julia and henry and that's their first meeting. i thought it was totally misshandled. i mean, henry just knew? a string pulled them together? charming and also sloppy. someone, a random stranger, or a friend, just could've called "julia!" when henry and her passed each other, she would look up, their eyes would meet and it would work exactly the same but it would add a factor of believabilitly. everything else with them is fine. during war times, crazy stuff happened, so finding someone through letters and have a quick wedding is not out of possibility, plus we see them interact in flashbacks, they have a child and when they time travel, clearly couple of years passed since they've met, and so of course, they want to find each other, it's an established relationship at this point.

ellen and brian are not that. they are the very opposite of that. they are the romeo and juliet of the show. something that had been talked about over and over again by the creators and actors (harriet slater said she thought their first meeting was like the romeo and juliet seeing each other through the aquarium) and had been alluded in the show by their clans rivality but... problem is romeo and juliet are 17 and 14 years old. brian and ellen are not.

young teenagers that just met could profess undying love for each other, with adults that's just weird. (not to mention that romeo and juliet is as much as love story a tale of caution) but again we have fated lovers trope with ellen and brian and that's the only thing that is holding this relationship together. that and the chemistry, which i admit is there.

they have met. they met again on the bridge and held hands. beautiufly shot scene. now they are in love. they met again - ellen gets fingered, good for you bestie - again, words like "i'll do anything for you" are thrown around. let me remind you, they had seen each other twice by this point. brian takes julia to give ellen a message, ellen tells her that brian is the love of her life...............what. lovat had been gone for a month. a month.

we are suppose to root for ellen and brian because they are jamie's parents. we are suppose to root for them because we are told they are in love. they just are. accept it. trust me, bro.
