These form a kind of daoist element phase pattern where one is considered to "beat" the other and things transition according to that pattern, in the expected way.

Not according to OP. If OP is correct, when you said “Yes.” you gave them permission to come into your house because the words “Is your friend here?” literally meant “Can I come in and kill your friend?”

I think, if you were to say “No”, then you would be lying but, unless the mortal enemy trusts you/believes your answer, you are not deceiving them and don’t have to feel guilty. Real life is often like this.
