“There’s that many?” He asked, maybe a bit more excited than he should have been. “Then, maybe I will be able to meet one.” He chuckled, looking forward to the hopeful encounter. He grinned when the other agreed to a game, excitement only building. “Yes! And, you don’t need to go easy on me – that doesn’t seem fair even though it’s supposed to make it more fair. I want to try my best and I want you to try your best. You don’t have to worry about me being a sore loser either. I lost to Haru all the time when we were little. I was only good at our races when we were cleaning the floor,” he said with a soft chuckle.

“As far as I know so far… there may be even more. Who knows where they’re coming from or why they keep popping up.” Just the sheer fact made her want to elicit a groan, but she knew she had to refrain. “Just promise me that you’ll be careful, okay? You’re too sweet, Ryuu.” She murmured, genuinely concerned for the boy’s well-being. At least at the mention of playing together shifted her frame of mind to something more positive. “Fine, then I won’t go easy on you… though you might regret that statement either way.” She chuckled and gave him a playful nudge. “Haru? That’s your brother right? I think I’ve seen him around now and then… were you two close? Just talking about siblings makes me miss my little brother.”

Ryuu pursed his lips. He didn’t like how black and white the other put vampires, but he knew it was hard to argue with others. He shrugged with a sigh, feeling backed into a corner. “I’d rather no one died, but I guess I would have to say we should protect the twelve people. I just feel bad. None of the spirits I get to talk to now have been killed by a vampire, so hopefully it stays that way, right?” He said, trying to stay positive as he always did. “I’ve never played that before and I’m not exactly sure what that is. But, if its a team sport, your team was really lucky.” He chuckled despite it being a little unfair for the other team. “Maybe we could play some soccer together sometime? I’ve always wanted to play.”

A small sigh fell from Gillian’s lips as her shoulders slumped slightly, “I really hope it stays that way too, Ryuu… it seems like more and more vampires pop up every day. I was good with a few of them around because I could easily keep track of them but more than five of them wandering around just gives me a migraine.” She rubbed at her temples for added emphasis before allowing her hand to drop back to her sides. “They definitely were lucky to have me, just as lucky as I were to have their friendship.” It felt strange not having that same sense of comradery anymore. “But we can play a game of soccer together! I promise to go easy on you the first time around.”

“Really? I didn’t think I saw any, but you did say they looked like humans. Maybe I could meet them some time. But, isn’t that what some say about people? That you have to be careful or they’ll use or hurt you? That’s what people have said to me at least, but I don’t believe them. Even if someone hurts you,I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for it or they didn’t mean to. I’m sure you could think the same for vampires too,” he conjectured. “I don’t think I’ll ever use your skills the way that you do, but it would still be really cool. Have you ever used your skills for anything other than hunting vampires?”

“I suppose you could really apply that to anyone since I think that you can never be too careful really, but then again… vampires only kill for four main reasons. For sport, for pleasure, because they lose control, or because they’re forced to. The last two are more understandable than the first, but it’s still my duty to protect innocent people who may eventually get harmed. I try to think about it in this way… would you rather want a dozen people dying or just one vampire?” She pursed her lips slightly in thought before nodding. “Well, back home I used to play lacrosse and people always wondered how I had such a strong advantage on the field. But what they don’t know won’t hurt them, right?”

Ryuu’s expression changed to show that he understood the other’s explanation of the creature, nodding along with her. Though, he still didn’t quite understand why these vampire creatures would want to hurt humans if they looked like them, but maybe that was something that would always be unanswered to him – he never knew any vampires to answer it. “I see. Well, hopefully they don’t come around you so you don’t have to kill anyone. As much as I love listening to these guys, I don’t think I could handle a few more voices whispering to me – it’s hard to do everything they ask me to already. But, since you hunt vampires and stuff, that mean you’re pretty good at fighting, huh? Do you think you could show me some time?”

Ah, if only that could have remained possible. “Unfortunately, I’ve already run into a few vampires around here… but most of them seem harmless. Though, you can never be too careful when it comes to them. They have a way of making you trust them only to strike when you least expect it.” She stated, recalling word for word what she had been taught over the years. “But not to toot my own horn or anything, I am pretty good at fighting. I’ve been training to fight and kill vampires for about three years now -- which definitely doesn’t come as an easy skill. I’d be happy to show you some skills some time, it might come in handy just in case you happen to have a running in with any of them. Better safe than sorry, right?”  

“To be honest, I’m the farthest thing from him. I don’t drink blood…well not from living things anyways…and I hate the thought of turning people unless it’s absolutely necessary like to save a life. I don’t use my powers. I just try to be a normal teenager.” He confessed.

Gillian simply stared at the other in confusion for a moment, processing his words. “It’s strange how different you turned out from him, even living under the same roof. But, I’ll just have to take your word for this all for now. I don’t like resorting to violence unless I have to anyway. Though… I’ll still have to keep my eye on you for safe measure.” She chuckled softly despite the fact she was completely serious -- at least it made it more light-hearted. “So, how’s that whole ‘normal’ teenager thing going for you so far? Daddy dearest not getting in the way?”
