Caelan Vale was born in a secluded woodland enclave tucked deep within the forests of northern Europe, the child of a human herbalist and a Seelie faerie whose brief love affair was never meant to last. While many faeries looked down upon mixed-blood children, Caelan's mother refused to abandon him, raising him among ancient groves where magic was woven into everyday life. From an early age he displayed a gentle affinity for living things. Injured birds found their way into his hands, flowers bloomed where he lingered, and frightened animals rarely fled from him. Though his magic was modest compared to full-blooded fae, it reflected his compassionate heart rather than raw power.

His peaceful life ended during one of Krovs Castle's annual slave hunts. While escorting younger members of his woodland community to safety, Caelan deliberately drew the hunters' attention away from the others. He managed to buy enough time for the rest to escape before he was overwhelmed and captured himself. Bound in enchanted restraints and fitted with one of Krovs' power-negating collars, he was transported to the castle, stripped of nearly everything that connected him to his former life, and confined within the Undercroft alongside countless other captured supernaturals.

However, much to the surprise and amusement, sometimes even chagrin, of the vampires of the castle; Months of captivity have not extinguished the kindness that defined him. Caelan has learned the castle's hierarchy quickly, understanding that resistance often brings suffering not only upon himself but upon those around him. He follows orders as he must, speaks respectfully and warmly even when frightened, and quietly offers comfort to newly arrived slaves who struggle to accept their fate. He has become known as the steady rock which many caught in the storm of Krov Castle cling to for stability. Some mistake his gentle demeanor for weakness, but beneath it lies remarkable resilience. He refuses to allow Krovs to take away the one thing he still owns completely: his compassion.

Privately, Caelan has not abandoned hope. He knows escape from Krovs is nearly impossible, and he has seen enough failed attempts to understand the consequences. Rather than dreaming of impossible heroics, he hopes for smaller miracles- a kind conversation, genuine friendship, or one day belonging to someone who sees him as more than a commodity. Until then, he endures each day with quiet grace, believing that even within the darkest places, kindness can survive.
