I sit in shallow waters

too scared of my own fears to leave the shore

must I let go

Of everything I was

in order to dream bigger?

ever since I tasted loss it’s grown into a sick addiction

To the pain of crippling numbness

drunk off the scent of this beautiful depiction

I’m off- to chase the dragon, this time I must not return.

I die a little death each parting ways

closing my heart with guarded walls as I weed new growth away

I cannot stand to love

When I know the price of the reward

Is equal to the pain.

I am a burning city

Running wild.

With all of this, I wake to see another day,

evolution of a painting. of a feeling I yearn for.

Peace and warmth. by myself. In myself.

the world I knew doesn’t exist anymore, I’m dealing with it by resorting back to old habits. there’s a comfort in familiarity, even if it doesn’t serve the Me that has grown in all these seasons. It feels safe.
