My favorite thing about the “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!” tagline is that every part of it is technically wrong. Only one of the two main lesbians is a necromancer, the gothic palace is not haunted, and they are on Earth for 90% of the book.

My other favorite thing about the “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!” tagline is that every part of it is technically right. The Earth is in space, there are numerous lesbian necromancers in addition to Harrow (Ianthe, Judith, Cytherea), and Canaan house is absolutely most definitely haunted that was my bad.

How literally did John base Alecto's body on Barbie? A big complaint about Barbie dolls is how disproportionate they actually are. If Barbie's head is scaled up to that of a normal human, she's like 7 feet tall, an H cup, and has a waist that wouldn't support her being able to stand. And we know that Alecto is insanely tall. I'm wondering if when she said "you've made me a hideousness" she isn't mad strictly about being in a human form. She's mad that it isn't a human form. When Nona draws the frog, she talks about how she talks about how it would move. The functionality is inextricable from it being a good design. A Barbie made real would not function. If Alecto is dealing with those sort of proportions, it's only her endless regeneration that keeps her going. In contrast, even Harrow's sickly, fucked up body is an actual, functioning human body. Hence why Alecto might find it so much more beautiful and a comparative relief to exist in.

tagging/content warning systems for media are often mocked outside of fanfic which is kind of too bad because i do think it'd be a really interesting vector of literary analysis to examine what the author or publisher thinks they should be informing their audience about vs. the actual content of the media in question

i think its funny that coronabeth and harrow have barely interacted. ianthe can judge coronabeth for judth deuteros but she still has to explain to corona that shes now down horrendous for the weird little ninth girl

ianthe views harrow as a true peer, someone who actually sees her, who matches her in intelligence and ambition. and so how do we think coronabeth is going to feel about that :)

The Alectopause has gone on so long that we are all, in a sense, worshipping that which is unknown and unseen, and the infinite possibilities therein, so much so that the actual inevitable release for Alecto will feel like a kind of death. That is to say, we have made an idol of Alecto the Ninth, and should be cautious when the real thing comes, lest the anticipation mean more to us than the thing itself.

I pray the book is never published. I pray the cover is never revealed. I pray that which was TBA remains TBA, insensate, in perpetual rest, with text unedited and unprinted. I pray it lives, I pray it sleeps.

i was gonna make a post about how the alectopause has spoiled us because whatever alecto the ninth is will not be the same as whatever the fuck the fandom has predicted. but then i remembered the entirety of harrow the ninth. the audacity to make it mostly second person. harrow's lobotomy. ianthe saying choke me daddy. god's tumblr jokes. and remembered that we don't know the inner workings of muir's mind and i should stay humble
