SEGA launches “SEGA UNIVERSE” to bring classic IPs beyond games
SEGA has announced a new project called “SEGA UNIVERSE.” This isn’t just about bringing old games back, but about gathering the company’s classic IPs, reintroducing them, and pushing them further than before.
The concept is “NO OLD, STAY GOLD.” Classic doesn’t mean outdated. It just hasn’t been presented in a way that fits today.
What stands out is that this project isn’t limited to games. It will expand into other forms of media, including video, music, fashion, as well as events and fan communities
In simple terms, SEGA is shifting from selling games to building around its IP as the core.
That makes this especially interesting, because many SEGA IPs have been absent from the spotlight for years. Bringing them back under one name feels like putting them on stage again.

IP highlights for 2026
OutRun (40th anniversary) A driving game that focuses more on the feeling of the ride than competition. Its branching routes and iconic soundtrack still make it memorable today.
Bare Knuckle / Streets of Rage (35th anniversary) A side-scrolling action series many players grew up with. Its return in 2020 sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, proving it still has strong appeal.
NiGHTS into dreams… (30th anniversary) A unique flight action game set in a dream world. It has remained one of SEGA’s most distinctive and beloved titles.
Sakura Wars (30th anniversary) An IP that successfully expanded beyond games into anime, stage plays, and more. A clear example of cross-media potential.
SEGA UNIVERSE isn’t just about reviving old titles. It’s about giving them a place in today’s market again.
Whether it succeeds will depend on one thing can SEGA make a new generation feel the same connection?
