You were more than surprised to see a whole hoard of paparazzi crowding outside the diner doors when you arrived the next morning. As you made your way towards them cautiously, cameras began flashing in your direction, multiple questions being shouted at you.
“S’cuse me, I’m just trying to get to work..” You pushed past the paps, wincing as you felt them tugging at your wrist and arms in an attempt to get you to answer some of their questions.
“Did you know Harry was cheating on you with Kendall for a month now?”
“When did you realize Harry had moved on?”
“Can you tell us a bit about what went down in the diner yesterday? We saw Kendall and Harry eating together and you were their server!”
“How do you feel about Kendall not recognizing you as Harry’s ex-girlfriend?”
You shut the front door behind you, sighing in relief at the sight of Y/F/N going up front to get rid of the paparazzi. (Well, she tried her best. When they didn’t leave she just told them not to come in.)
“Another day, another dollar.. right?” Y/F/N asked carefully, knowing very well you were still in a fragile state.
“Another day, another dollar..” You murmured, smiling lightly as you tied your tattered apron around your waist, grabbing a pen and notepad off the marble counter.
“Hi, can we get some service?” You whipped around, jaw dropping slightly as you made eye contact with Kendall. What was she doing here? And more importantly - why was Harry here.. again?!
“Y/N, I need to talk to you.” Harry stood up, scowling to himself as the flashes and shouts seemed to increase from outside.
“I’m here to serve you. Unfortunately, there are no other servers available besides myself and Y/F/N because it’s only seven in the morning. Which reminds me - why the hell are you here?”
“Y/N, I know you’re upset and all, but you know how tricky the world of fame is..” Kendall cut in with a small shrug, taking a sip of her coffee. You didn’t know Kendall very well but you knew you weren’t a big fan of her already. “All I can tell you is Harry and I are supposed to be dating.. I’d be willing to give you a certain amount of money to not tell anybody about the setup.”
“But.. why? I thought management liked me..” You frowned, looking up at Harry as he scratched the back of his head.
“They do! They really do, but.. they think this’d be better for my image. Y’know, cos Kendall’s, like, she’s..”
“She’s famous. And she’s a model. I get it.” You finished Harry’s sentence, hurt that he would even make that statement. Of course - this was a classic excuse. You weren’t a model. You were really only famous because you were in a relationship with Harry Styles. You were a waitress, for Christ’s sakes! “I just thought you’d make more of an effort to fight for us but clearly I was wron-”
All of a sudden, the doors to the diner bursted out, the paps filling the space up immediately as they started crowding around the three of you, your eyes widening in fear.
“Hey, get out!” Y/F/N snapped, an angry frown set on her face.
“We’ll get out once we get the answers we need! Harry, are you dating Kendall?”
“Or are you still in love with Y/N?” This was it. This was the moment of truth. Now you could see if Harry really loved you or not. Harry glanced over as Kendall stood up, her eyes widening slightly as if she was telling him to say what he was supposed to say - which was that he was dating Kendall and he had no relationship with you any longer.
“Harry.” You breathed out, Harry turning to look at you as his features softened. “Do the right thing.”
“We’ll keep it short and sweet for you, mate. Who are you dating?”
“I.. um.. I’m dating..” And with his answer, you finally found out who the real Harry was.
