"Presence"

Returning to that exact same spot on the Oregon Coast some 50 years later. I hoped to find both of you here. Would they be there?

The only thing I have to remember that day by is a grainy black & white photo and the memories. That photo revealed that my brother Reid and I were little. We were playing in the sand. The sun was low and warm. There was the unmistakable look of Joy on our faces. Mom, you were young. Your hair was long and tied up in a ponytail. You played in the sand with your sons at the waters edge. Dad you were ever behind the camera capturing a perfect moment.

Humbug Mountain beach became a family camping favorite for years with many wonderful camping trips. As the years went on and life happened along with my folks getting older. We eventually stopped coming here.

I have dreamed of returning here for many years. This weekend, that dream came true. I brought my family here to show them the place where those family memories that I hold so dear were made. Watching my kids play in the sand at the waters edge like I did as a child. This brought a feeling of peace and contentment over me. We are continuing to make family memories here. Given time, eventually, all things will come full circle.

Was I hoping to find my parents here? I think in a way I was.

Even though, I didn't find them here as they have both been gone for years now. I did feel their presence. Where do people's spirits go when they die. To Heaven.... Is this heaven? Maybe if I listen carefully I can hear their voices in the wind.
